My Jeep has had some sloppy steering issues for awhile so I decided to address them today. Had a tendency to wander. First thing I found was the adjusting screw locknut on top of the steering gearbox ( manual steering) was loose. Tightened and adjusted and this took a lot of the play out of the steering. Noted the upper bearing above the steering universal is shot but also I have some play at the lower end shaft coupling. Is this normal? I can't find a good picture of it to see if it like a universal joint. It is covered by a rubber boot and I wanted to get some input before I went any further. I don't want to spend $150.00 + if I don't have to.
