Subject: Need a fuel tank

Hey everyone, I am looking for a fuel tank for a 73 CJ5 (my Dad's Jeep).

Does anyone know of any good used ones?

How about a source for a new one?

He has been looking at the steel replacements in JC Whitney, does anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks a lot,

Jason

I've got the Olympic Tire swing and do not think it will fit on the rear
bumper. It needs the added width of the rear bumper to mount some mounting
plates to. Having said that, I wouldn't really waste your money on it. It
really is a poor design compared to the others out there and you would be
much happier holding out until you could get a better quality unit.

Is anyone out there using the Olympic Tire Swing to hold their spare?
I want to get something thats stronger than the stock carrier, but
don't have $400 for the swing out kind. If you do, do you like it,
is it worth the money, will it fit on a factory TJ rear bumper?

I missed what kind of vehicle you are working on. The Dana 30 that was
used in the front of an XJ and TJ have used different thinkness of hubs
over the years. If you have one of the thinner hubs you may need to
shim behind the brake rotor to make things work.

Canyon State Components makes several reverse shackle kits that work very
well. If your driving a CJ they offer one that will convert to Wrangler
springs. Check their web site at www.canyonstatecomponents.com

Also I have a tech article on my web site about using stock CJ& spring
hangers and Chevy Pick up shackles to build your own shackle reversal. The
Jeep in the article is used hard and easily conquered Highway to Hell. You
can see it at www.azrocks.alloffroad.com But you better hurry because I will
be removing the story soon to feature a frame rebuild on a CJ2A, also being
done by Canyon State Components.

Subject: Final Update on T-Shirt Runs

Here are some final updates to the t-shirt runs. (Sorry if this is a
duplicate. I am having email problems.)

1. We will meet at the Texaco station at the intersection of US60 and
SR79. T-shirts will be distributed starting at 8:30. Email me if you
need better directions. Texaco is easy to find because it sits out
there all by itself.

2. All runs will start by going through Box Canyon due to military
exercises. We will stagger the starts by about 15 minutes. The
Woodpecker (or Martinez Canyon) run will head out from Texcao first
at about 9:15AM. They will meet Mike Anderson (run leader) at the
entrance to Box Canyon. The Ajax run will leave Texaco at 9:30 and
the Box Canyon Coves run will leave at about 9:45. This will help
keep the Box Canyon portion from getting clogged up. PLEASE PLAN YOUR
ARRIVAL AT TEXACO ACCORDINGLY. We will start t-shirt distribution at
8:30AM at Texaco. Please don't wait until the last minute to get
yours. We will stop distribution at 9:15 so if you haven't picked
yours up you will need to make other arrangements with Glen Davis.

3. We will air down and disconnect just before Box Canyon.

4. The hard core run will probably be done in Martinez Canyon but the
group will discuss that at the trail head after meeting up with the
leader, Mike Anderson.

5. There will be signup sheets at the t-shirt distribution point so
that we know who goes on what run and who got their t-shirts.

We have about 60 t-shirts to distribute and a total of 20 Jeeps
signed up for 3 runs. There will probably be a few more there that
haven't signed up yet so this should be a fun day of wheeling. The
groups will each be a good size and it is supposed to reach nearly 70
degrees!!

Bring lunch and water. See you all on Sunday.

I am having some clearance problems after installing a drop pitman arm. The stock drag link and attached tie rod end are within 1/2" of the steering stabilizer and lower sway bar mount at full right turn. Its possible my stock drag link is a little bent. It's hard to tell, because its pre-bent from the factory.
Does anyone have an unbent drag link I could get my hands on? I'm thinking maybe someone has one laying around after installing a crossover steering kit.
If not, I guess I might be able to pick one up at the dealer tomorrow. Sounds expensive. Upper woodpecker calls........

Off the top of my head, I would guess that Dave quoted a price reflected by
supply and demand. I can think of a few posts on this web site in the last 8
months or so by people looking for stock YJ springs and we are only 300+-
people. Dave deals with people nationwide. I would tend to think that if he
quoted a price of $190, someone out there must be willing to pay it.

I hope this doesn't turn into more disgusting, mud slinging, he said / she

the service or if the price is to high, it isn't all that difficult to go

Well said, Larry. Sometimes remarks made here sound like they are coming from the whole group of 450+. It is never so. We all have our own opinions and we should voice them. That is part of what makes this group great. But, a single incident by a single vendor does not constitute group opinion, nor does it mean "bad vendor". If your posts are factual (and not emotional) then others can evaluate your comments and vendors may learn from them also. We'll all be better off.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this. A truss on the bottom keeps the ends
of the axle from bending up reference the differential. This is the
normal breaking mode on axles.

When you put a truss on top doesn't it need to be heaver and welded to
the top of the axle to provide the same protection.

Larry and others: Since I'm the one who started this thread, I feel compelled to respond. Sounds like you have a good relationship with the folks at AMC 4X4. I think that's great. However, that doesn't change the fact that, for many of us, their quoted prices verge on the ridiculous.

$190 for a used set of Wrangler stock springs? Last time I called for a D30 stub shaft with 297x U-joint, they wanted $110. Hell, I bought a brand-new Spicer unit at 4 Wheelers for $135. I won't even mention what they quoted for a D44 rear, although I thought their Waggy front D44 was decently priced at $350.

Just because "someone" out there will pay those prices doesn't make it right in my book. I'm not attempting to sling any mud, just reporting my personal experiences. Obviously your mileage has varied.
