I finally got the cool San Luis Obispo layover of over 17 hours on Friday. When I posted up on a motorcycle board I visit often, someone from there responded and we decided to meet up. He got us tickets to the Hearst Castle and made one dream that couldn't happen on my road trip come true.
We did the Experience tour, an hour and a 1/2 worth of beautiful grounds, rooms and historical talk.
Here are some pictures from that day.
The entrance to the grounds after the 5 mile tour bus ride up the hillside:

The view of the ocean:

The front of one of three guest houses:

The outdoor pool that you can actually rent out to use through the Hearst Corp. No I didn't get a cost:

The Castle front in all it's glory:

The 3rd floor bedroom balcony and towers:

I am so proud of this picture. It is one of a few indoor shots that came out well. This is the grand dining room. It had flags hanging on both side of the table and an elegant set up on the table:

The tour ended with us passing by the indoor pool for a few pictures. In the center top area is the diving platform:

As we were coming down the hillside at the end of our tour the little CD was telling us about more stuff on the grounds, like the polar bear pens that were a part of his zoo. Another interesting tidbit was that he had his own private airstrip on the property that housed his DC-10:

This gives you another look at the view this man had from his lands.
This tour was so worth the money. It was only 20 bucks. I personally want to do every tour now since I've been there and maybe we can gather enough pennies to rent out the outdoor pool. hehehe.....
Anyway, here's my pretty pic from that day:
