There is a run out there next weekend and I have had some people tell me that a stock Rubi can make it through. What are your opinions? I'm not worried about hurting the rig but I also don't want to hold the group up :cool:

you won't hold the group up in a stock rubi, on raw deal.

Ditto. We had a full size stock Suburban through there on one trip. I also used to run the Terminator trails open/open on 33s in the TJ and taking the fun lines. Judement Day on 33s was easy but I did have a locker at each end by the time we ran that one.
These trails must have been much more difficult at some point because they do not warrant their currently listed ratings.

What line did you take at the waterfall on JD?

The left line and the right line (with the notch) were both done without incident. The middle was probably possible also but didn't bother trying it. On the left side I had to do a three point turn to negotiate the outcropping of rocks at the top of the ledge although that could have been avoided with a slightly better attack. This was done self-spotting, which I generally prefer.

Barry;
Cool! My point here is that you chose the bypass to the waterfall. That obstacle is quite difficult at times and i've never seen a TJ climb it on 33's. Obstacles like this give the trail it's rating. This is meant to keep uncapable vehicles off the trail. The whole trail doesn't have to be a 4 to get that designation. Also; what line did you take at the big crevass towards the end of JD? See what I'm getting at? ;)

Yes sir, I believe I do. I am not suggesting that every bonehead with a 4x4 sticker on their "SUV" should head out to those trails at TM -- yikes. That would be a mess. But, when I see things like "must" have 35s, lockers both ends, and so on, well, it just isn't so for Raw Deal, Terminators and a few others. :D
I do realize different things are easier/more challenging for different people, different vehicles, different weather conditions and so on. Its is all good so long as we're all educated. No chest pounding here... These trails are very dangerous for a casual wheeler or the stereotypical SUVer who really has no clue about what the capabilities (limitations) of their vehicles, or the dangers of messing around in the desert.
I sent you a far too long PM, by the way. :D
