All:

I'm looking to go camping somewhere north of globe, probably in the Salt River Canyon wilderness. I'm looking for some place off the 'beaten path' without many neighbors. I'd also like to go hiking during the day. Anything that fits the bill? Once again, sorry for the last minute posting. I'll find something no matter what. I'll be taking my cherokee this time. I don't want to traverse anything to difficult on Friday evening...

try Workman Creek or Haigler Creek outside Young

Isn't that Pinal peak right south of globe? I forget the name.. camped out on the very top next to the radio towers a couple times... It's a great view from up there, but never been anywhere as windy. It's nice and cool up there also.
Or take the highway leading to young and camp out on those huge red cliffs on the east side of roosevelt lake.

I ended up camping off of 288 on a plateau that overlooked Roosevelt lake. On Sunday, I also drove down Cherry Creek Rd (FR203) until I hit Devil's Chasm, and that had some really nice spots. I'll definately be camping there next time I'm out that way. I was suprised to see that 288 was just a simple gravel road. I thought it was a well travelled paved route to Young. I've never been to Young so perhaps I overestimated the size and traffic. Roosevelt lake wasn't really busy either, and I had no issues finding. Must be the gas prices. My guess is that most campers were above the Rim, since it was fairly hot between Globe and Young.

I got a flat on Saturday. I tried to get it fixed in Globe on Sunday but all shops were closed. I went to autozone and bought a mini compressor and patch kit, in case I lost another tire. I really need to get a CO2 tank going...
