i am a supporter of the azvjc. i would even be willing to display a sticker on the side of the jeep, but i dont like the way they look (no offense is intended toward anyone)
how about a new logo, competition to design it, voting or even a couple different ofptions.
please dont get offended by this post as that is not my intent. just want something more up-to-date

Yeah I like the idea of the AZ flag, but I wouldn't want a computer or anything to do with a computer on my jeep either.

I agree, I've had comments from other non members that it looks kind of dumb. I can understand if nobody wants to change it due to tradition and all but I think it needs to be updated. Just my .02.

I think the decal looks pretty cool when driving by, it really stands out with the colors. Of course driving by you can't tell it's a computer, and I agree on that. The first time I saw it up close I was a little disappointed to see what it actually was, but I personally like the bright colors as it stands out.

As one of the original members I would say that over 10 years of work to make the existing club logo recognizable to the OHV community and the Land agencies should be thought about. That is a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.
Look at who is invovled in this discussion so far other then myself have any of you been invovled for more then two of those 10 plus years that earned the recognition for the logo? How many of you have gone out to a clean up or a land use meeting.
I am not trying to be a @##$ but I know this will come accross that way. This is one of the discussions that comes up every couple years. That is why you do not see any of the other long term members joining in the discussion they understand that traditional logo has been earned by to many to change it now.

as stated earlier i am not trying to step on any toes. that being said branding goes a long way. we are not changing the club, we are not changing the values, and we are not changing the name. some of us "newer" members simply would rather have something a little more modern on the side of our jeeps. and even sports teams change their uniforms, but people still recognize whoe they are. same with corporate logos. and you just might find you get more people putting them on the sides of their rigs. i know i will

Although I'm not an original member, I've been part of this group almost that long. This is probably the third time this subject has come up.
I agree with Hackle. I like the logo and the history behind it. This is the VIRTUAL jeep club isn't it? That implies a computer based group. Why should we not have a computer in our logo? It's what we are, especially lately, as this group seems to spend more time typing than wheelin'
I wouldn't mind changing the sticker to reflect the website, and maybe "freshen" up the existing design.
The AZ flag is mandatory, IMO.

I wish I had computer skills :(
I would like to see someone take the original logo. colors stay the same as they have always been.
cut out the PC/Jeep thingy and in its place put the "only in a Jeep grill headlight thingy" but without the words "only in a jeep"
I really like the banner around the outside of the sticker but instead of "mud sand, rock, dirt, whatever ?, ;) " just have AZVJC.ORQ & VIRTUALJEEPCLUB.COM
I like the idea of the "TREAD LIGHTLY" reaffirms that we are a environmentally conscious.
I believe with these changes the logo would still be instantly recognizable, but updated.

In every batch there is going to be someone who 'likes' and 'does not like' the logo no matter what it contains. I may have posted some new designs but honestly, I like the current logo. I can instantly recognize it, many people spent years making it mean something, and I don't think it needs to change. If you don't like it... don't "stick-it". I put the decal on the side on my Jeep to represent a group that as I whole I know has great values and good people, not because it looked nice !?!
"A Logo does not make a club"
Over the years I have had many people say the don't know about AZVJC but when they see the sticker on the side of my rig they then go, "Oh yeah... i know that club now!" I don't know of many other club logos that have that kind of recogniztion!

I think the logo is outdated and ugly.
I think we should keep it.
The logo is now a branded image, thanks to long-time members and hard workers, like Jim. This discussion does come up regularly, but I think that no matter what logo design we went with, it would be called outdated and ugly next year. If one was feeling rowdy, one could say that it is an accurate representation of the group, but one wouldn't want to do that, would one? :D
An example of effective branding, which we all love to hate: Pink Jeep. How many of you think of Sedona tours immediately? And how many of you think of Pink Jeep if someone says Sedona Jeep tours? Branding is priceless.
The sticker does not make the Jeep, and it certainly doesn't make the club. Appreciate the blood, sweat, and axle grease that the logo represents. And hope we DESERVE to put it on our rigs... ;)
I'd like two ugly decals, please... :D

I guess it has been about two years since this topic has been brought up. Same ol same ol. Just different faces.
There's no doubt that there are allot of great ideas out there for some really cool idea's on how to modernize our stickers. BUT. This design represents so much more than just what looks cool. It represents what we believe. And who we are as a group. There are so many great accomplishments associated with this decal. It would be a shame to replace it because it looks outdated to some. The only true advantage I can see that would benefit the group would be the $ generated from everyone buying new stickers. This would help support the upkeep it takes to keep this site rolling. Other than that. I just dont see the need.
I'm not sporting one on each side of my junk because it does or doesnt look cool. I dont need to. I'm already cool. :D

Those stickers are the reason that I found this club. When I had my first TJ about 4 years ago, I would drool everytime that I saw a built rig with a club sticker on it. I figured that this club was the place to in the 4wd world. When I bought my second TJ the first thing I did was track down this website and signed up. Updating things is cool (sometimes) but I think the stickers should stay. Like has been stated before, the current design represents more than just a logo.

Although I haven't been around as the original members, I've come to understand the work , energy and committment that it has taken for this "VIRTUAL" Jeep Club to develop to where it is today. The logo is fine with me. I display it on my Jeep because I think the members of this group are some of the finest in the OHV community, not because it looks cool or not.

I've haven't been around as long as some and have been around longer than others. When I bought my jeep I saw one of the stickers the first day and have been a member ever since. That logo is kind of silly and it might be a little out dated, but it is who we are around here. It's who we've been and who we are going to be in the future.
That being said if you want to create and have made a sticker on your own then right on. Devilman did it and I think that a few others I have seen in the past also. It doesn't take away anyones participation in our group, it is just your own choice.
And don't forget people this is not the club site. www.azvjc.org is the club site. www.virtualjeepclub.com is just a BBS board that has been created gratiously by Joe West. We also have the Yahoo mail board that is a communication channel. There are links to both of these comm. areas from the "MAIN" club site.

I myself am not one of the long-time founding members, but I've been wheeling here in Arizona where I am a native from for over 25 years. When I finally decided that I wanted to join a club I decided on AZVJC. Since joining I've spent a lot of time and effort organizing Jeep Shows for the freeway openings with ADOT, going on cleanup runs, and helping the club any way I can. I've put a ton of effort into showing the rest of Arizona what a great club this is, and helping them to recognize our group. Many of them have commented on how recognizable our logo is. I would hate to think all that has been wasted effort because some people think the logo isn't cool enough to put on their ride. I have three Jeeps, and I proudly display the stickers on all of them. If you want stickers with attitude then put something else on your ride, but the AZVJC isn't about being cool, it's about the responsible great group we are and how when I see it, I know it's someone that I would probably enjoy wheeling with, knowing I'll be comfortable with what they do on the trail. Personally, I'll leave the attitude for the people that are giving off-roaders a bad name, and I'll stick with the less than cool, but totally respected, logo that we now have.

I don't think anybody meant any disrespect for the individuals that founded this club. I have the utmost respect for them and what they have done for this club and our sport. You old timers say this subject comes up every two years or so. I think it's a good thing that it does come up. Myself as a newbie had no idea this has been a subject in the past. I'm glad it came up because now I understand how important it is not to change the logo. Now I can pass it on to the next newbie who questions the logo's design.
Now like AZ TJ said, "Let's get to Wheelin!"

if anybody bothered to read my original post :D you would realize that i stated i was not trying to step on any toes. if it has been brought up in the past then some people feel the same way i do. i support the club and have been to one land meeting. i have been a member as long as i have owned a jeep (coming up on one year) and i want to display my respect for the club by displaying a sticker on the side of my jeep. what is wrong with updating the way the jeep looks on the sticker? i have no problem with the colors or design other than that jeep is outdated. and i agree the az flag is manditory
does the new twenty dollar bill make it any less recognizable? does it change any of the history behind its creation or the founding fathers of the country? i have never met most of the members of this club, nor have i met the originators of the club but i think they and the club are doing a great job to keep trails clean and open. i am in no way trying to promote an arguement, just a discussion.
its also a good oportunity to add some things that have really come to the forefront of wheelin in the past few years like "Tread Lightly" (even thought that organization has been around longer than the club) as well as adding virtualjeepclub.com which is a new addition and not displayed on the original decal.

Logo's: Many years ago I did some consulting work for Royal Dutch Shell. At that time their logo was the shape of a shell. They wanted to change it and present a stronger image. We ended up with a square with the shell on it. That lasted for many years. Recently they have changed back to the orginal image of just a shell.
AT&T
Campbell's Soup
GM
Ford
US Army
etc
All change from time to time. And, it's ok.
If "we" want to change our logo, it can/cannot be a good thing.
Good thing if its done as a group. Someone suggested a contest with folks voting.
Bad thing if someone jams their idea down our throat collective throats.
I've been a member for a little over a year. But this is NOT my first rodeo in matters like this.
WE owe it to us, new members, old members to take a look at our current logo/image and think if we want to change or improve what we have.
For you new young'uns that just walked in the door on this club and want to start making changes. RESPECT your elders for they have walked the path and carried the baby to maturity.
For you elder's. Just because you did it that way 10 years ago and gave birth to the baby, doesn't make you or the baby smarter or right. Matter of fact your baby might have grown up to be uglier than crap on steroids.
Since we are not a club and no one is in charge then maybe we as a group should ask the elders to preside over this matter. I would like to see it addressed and taken a look at. Some of these young'uns have got some good ideas. Good enough to change our logo? Dunno, not for me to answer, but for me to vote on.

Hello All,
I just moved to Sedona AZ and the first thing I did was join the AZVJC because of the decal. Well that’s not the only reason I joined but it did grab my attention. I am a computer tech so I want that decal on my Jeep. I went on a run last Sunday with a goop of good people. I hope to go on many more.
On the same note I tried to go to the decal link on the old and new site to get 2 decals and the link is no worky. How can I get some decals?

Well in response to all that have posted here the last few days i wanted to put my 2cents in as well. Now I have not been here for as long as some of you have but I have been here close to a year now and I have been very pleased with the site and its members. So please dont take any of this wrong. Ok so here it goes. As many of you have said this subject comes up often. There must be a reason for this. We are a growing club. And as we know with growth comes change. Not neccesarily big change but change is change. Just like all the O.G.'s of the group put their blood, sweat, and tears into the logo we now use. What would be wrong with the Newbies getting the opportunity to do the same in designing an up to date logo? Just because we are new does not mean we are any less proud of the club. We just want to have a decal or logo that represents the next generation of club members. A thought i had as to the logo is why could we not design some decals to represent the model jeep or other offroad vehicles we all drive. Such as Cj, Yj, Tj, Xj, Zj, Toyota, Chevy, Ford, Rock Buggies, etc....... There are so many of us out there now why not have a few different to choose from? We can definately Keep the original logo on hand for everyone that wants it but could have some new options for people that would like them. I like the Idea of a contest and voting on the winner or winners. And would even throw out the idea that we all vote or have a poll posted on the site to even decide on the matter. I feel that ALL our opinions count we should at the very least have a vote in the matter. Again please dont take offense to what i have said today and please take all our thoughts and ideas into account.
Respectfully,

How about...

But I must be honest. I do still like the old sticker because it is just so noticeable and has really been 'branded' to this group.
WOW NOW THATS A NICE DECAL........THOM.......(T.C.'S TOY)

Yeah, pay no attention to all the toyota's or even the KIA that wheels with the group  Despite the name, this club doesn't discriminate against vehicle makes.
Same basic sticker, same backgraound, general design, but a more refined illustration of the "computer jeep"....
I agree. I know there is history to the logo, but many business logos are updated throughout the years. I think a minor update would be a nice change. A new logo will also grow on you.

Just another quick thought has anyone else tried doing a google photo search for Jeep logos or any other logo for that matter? there have been so many minor changes over the years but doesnt change the product at all. Just a thought. Sorry if i offended anyone with the vehicles other than JEEPS I own a 98 Tj myself and stand with Jeep for life but i do know we have long time members of the club that drive other vehicles as well so i didnt want to leave anyone out.

i have been trying to "photoshop" for a day now and have "no skillz" in the area. i was thinking about a jeep driving out of the computer screen with the rays and star of the arizona flag behind it. would look really cool with the jeep at full flex. at least in my mind...
anybody with photoshop skills want to give it a try

why dont we start a poll and see what the members think? new logo, old logo, both, dont care, or depends on what the new logo looks like
i have no idea how to start a poll, or if i even can, but i know somebody out there does.
let give it to the people!!!

I agree with the poll. And the argument of the history doesn't hold much ground, especially when even entities like the Army and Air Force changed their logos. Not sure but they may be older clubs, with far more history, and were not scared of moving towards the now!

Joined up in 99, run a "new" decal on the sides, "old" decal on the tailgate. Hmm.. I got both from Jon. Each is a little diff, each is well known. Even up in IL, the decal was recognized. History is good sometimes. Change it now, not my call.

Shouldn't start a club if you don't want newer members to have a vote on what they want. Sure some people haven't done all the clean ups and things of that nature that some of the beginning memebers have, but if that was what it took to be in the club, should have some prerequisits. I am not saying change the logo, but just give it a vote. If jeepers didn't let others opinions take part in our sport we wouldn't have many different ideas that have come out that are now attached under each and every one of our rigs.

If you start a new thread and go to the bottom of the form, theres a check box to have it be a poll with the # of options you want in the poll.
Should do the trick

Not sure, a poll serves any real purpose at this time. Plus polls are a waste of time unless properly worded.
Poll: Would you like to buy a new AZVJC decal or keep the current one?
• Yes
• No
Right off the bat I am told I need to buy a new one and the new one is going to be jammed down my throat. Screw you, see you later bye, I’ll keep the old one thanks…
Suggest:
• Form a committee of some old and some new members.
• Send out a e mail asking for submissions of possible decal designs, doesn’t have to be final proofs, but just paste-ups to ascertain what the final product might look like.
• Give a period of, 90 days? More or less to make submissions to the committee.
• Submissions will be reviewed by the said committee and reduced to not more than 4 or less than 2.
• Send out the 4 or less plus the current one in a email to ALL and then take your poll.
• Take results of that poll and reduce it to 3 or 2 and do another poll
• And, the winner is….

would be good except i'm not in charge. this has to come from some one higher on the totem pole than me. (im like just below worm crap on the totem pole) so maybe a poll will get some attention from those up the chain.

There's someone in charge?
And, that's the point, there is NO ONE in charge, this is not a club! You have no one to convince that we need a new decal other than the group as a whole. In fact, my guess is that your can have any decal you want, draw it, have it made into a decal and paste it on your Jeep. There is no one to say ya or nay.
There are some folks here that want a new one, some folks that don't. Fact is they don't count because they are gonna stick with what they have anyhow.
I like the one we have, but am open to something else and I suspect that is most folks viewpoint on it.
I laid out a plan for getting something accomplished. That said: I made my contribution.

Well - not to dive right on in, but what the hell.
Personally, I'd say leave it as it is, or modify it so it closely resembles the current sticker. It was designed by Jon Loveless and has gone through one minor change. I have a copy of the original I can post, which I preferr.
The purpose of a sticker (IMO) is so that one can quickly, at a glance, identify a member of a club. That certainly is true with the current design...it's all over the place, and can quickly be identified.
I think the problem with changing it now is that there are so many stickers out there that it would just be confusing.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
