Toys by Troy Powder-Coat
After beating my front, rear bumpers and my rocker guards against various rocks in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Moab for the past 36 months I figured it was time for a refresh. The front bumper, which stated life as Toys by Troy and then slowly customized to my wheeling needs came black powder coated. However, the add-ons and welding had changed all that. The rocker guards started life as a set of Warn’s and then customized by adding schedule 40 pipe on the outside. The rear bumper was just a lowly piece(s) of schedule pipe and then custom configured into a bumper.
Other than the TbT bumper that came powder-coated the rest were just rough at best. In order to keep the rig looking good I rattle-can it at least once a month with some Home Depot semi-gloss black. It takes about a rattle can’s worth for every wheeling weekend and I average about 1-2 cans a month every month for the past 36 months of the Jeeps life.
I thought it might be a good time to get them clean to the metal and power coated to start all over. I had talked to Troy and he agreed to take on this job. Little did he know that it was going to take a torch just to burn off the paint on the front bumper. As Troy said, “they were rough”! He also asked me if I had “drug them behind the Jeep on the way over” to his Powder Coating facility. Troy has recently added a new powder-coating unit to his already spacious fabrication and development facility. Before this, he had been outsourcing his powder-coating and he decided to bring it all in house. It is a large unit, large enough to drive a Jeep into if you wanted.
The finish on the power-coat is superb, almost too nice for me to head back out on the trails. The TbT PC can take a beating too. Check out the TbT corner guards and “crapper bars. Believe me when I say those have beaten some brush and battered some rocks here and in Moab and the PC is still in amazingly good shape.
I expect to get a good 36 months of service out of Troy’s top quality PC before it needs another refresh.
Thanks to:
Basic front bumper and great powder coating to Toys by Troy.
