The transmission fill plug on my YJ manual transmission is stuck and the plug edges are rounded. I took it to a transmission shop (AAMCO) and they said they could "chisel" it out and would try not to damage the transmission while doing it. I certainly don't want to damage the transmission just to change the fluid...geez. Anyone dealt with this before? If so, how did you end up getting that plug out?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I Had That Problem About A Year Ago.... I Welded A Nut On The Out Side Real Good, And Cracked It Right Off With A Ratchet And Socket..... Worked Good..... Or, You Too Might Be Able To Get A Large Pair Of Channel Locks Around It, That Might Work....

Or. Grinf A Large Slot Across It, And Use A Chisel To Spin It Out... I'm Suprised That Was A Tranny Shops Brightest Idea..

I would think drilling a small hole in the middle and then using an easy out would work. I have used this method on other bolts and it has worked great.
I agree, not sure I would trust that shop if that was the best they could come up with and then to not be sure as to whether they would mess up the tranny... makes me think they don't have too many sharp tools in that shed.

I think you should post the address of that shop (unless it's against this boards TOS) so the rest of us can avoid it. I'm still laughing that that's the best they came up with.... To quote the commercial, "do you ever wonder if people just stopped trying?"...

Thanks for the advice everyone. I tried a few things tonight and nothing
worked. I'm headed to Moab Friday night and need to let out some extra
transmission fluid before I go.
Can any weld on a nut for me tomorrow night (Thursday night)? I can bring
the Jeep to you, I just need to have someone weld a 15/16 inch nut (I'll
find one) onto the fill plug.
BTW, it's a YJ AX15 with an external fill plug.
I'm in Chandler

Have fun in Moab..... wish I was there.... it would cost me 400.00 bucks in gas to get there, maybe more to get back??? I could have my junk freighted up there for that...

Thanks for all the suggestions and offers. I think I have someone who will be helping me with this tomorrow (Thanks Tray!).
If gas jumps to $4 a gallon tomorrow, we're not going. Otherwise I'm looking forward to it! Hope I don't break anything :D
