New here and in need of some assistance. I did a search and checked the sponsor links, but didn't find what I was looking for. I'm having some serious problems (again... ) with the NV3550 on my 2000 TJ, and am wondering if anyone can recommend a good transmission shop in the Valley. I'm in Chandler, but will gladly drive for good service. Thanks in advance!

While driving on the freeway the other day, my wife went to shift into 5th gear and couldn't get it to go. She tried getting it to go back into 4th and couldn't get it to go either. So she coasted to the side in neutral. Thankfully, I was following her, so I hopped in and tried it myself. Couldn't get it to shift into any gear. I put the T-case in neutral and was able to get into gear, but when I tried to shift back into 4-HI, nothing but nasty grinding sounds. Finally, I put the T-case back into 2-HI, and basically just forced the shifter into first gear. With much bucking and banging, I was off. As I drove, things seemed to smooth out, but each time I stopped, it became a battle to get into gear again. Perhaps it's a T-case issue and not transmission?

As far as getting a new transmission, this is actually the second one! This is the one part of my Jeep that has given me nothing but headaches, and I'm in need of a GOOD mechanic or shop that can help me fix this thing once and for all. At this point, I'm actually considering an auto tranny swap, because I'm not convinced that the constant rattling that the transmission has always had is "normal" as I've been told so many times.

If you're still reading, thanks, and any assistance is appreciated.

I'm inclined to agree, I had problems with my AX-15 spent 3 or four months trying to find the cheapest way of fixing it and the best deal I could find was just reaplacing it with a rebuilt unit...now I'm kicking myself for not upgrading to a 3550 or a 4500

I like Tri-City Transmission on McClintock Rd. in Tempe (at the 202).
