I have been asked to do this a few times and I haven't contributed to this forum the way that I probably should be, so here it is.

If you are going to install a tow bar on your rig and your don't want to buy trailing lights, here is a way to tap into the rear lights for trailing lights. I have done this on both a CJ and a TJ, I have not tried it on other Jeeps, but I am sure it will work on most.

Stu, if you want to add the pdf form of this to your site, please let me know. Maybe you alredy have something similar.

There may be some mistakes in this, I whipped it up fairly quick. You can let me know if there is anything that just stands out as mistakes. I make no guarntees here and if you haven't done this type of work before ask questions before you burn up anything.

Enjoy....

Thanks a lot of drawing that up. It was good meeting you and thanks for the tow bar and pointers to install it. I'm going to tackle yanking the bumper and installing the brackets/wiring this weekend..... wish it wasn't so damn humid.

Next time you need something hauled with a truck let me know. I have a 1 ton long bed that can haul all your junk wherever you need it.

No problem.

I believe the wire colors that need to be taped into are: purple stripped, green stripped and solid green. I am not 100% positive though.

In addition, I believe ~30watt, lowest ohm, diodes will do. Radio Shack usually has them.

I towed my Jeep to Colorado and did not have access to diodes at the time so I wired in switches. It worked but you have to remember to flip the switches. Your diagram looks good, will have to update mine when I find some diodes.

Okay I forgot to flip a switch. What would it affect? Everything seems okay. Lights and everything still work.
