The passenger side motor mount in my '94 wrangler has broken.

Seeing as how I am a novice as doing this stuff my self I need someone who
A. Has a jack (preferably a roll under jack) that will extend tall enough to reach the bottom of a wrangler's motor, keeping in mind the wrangler has ~5 inches of lift. I can scrounge up some wood blocks if I need to, I'm sure.

B. has (prefferably) a little mechanical know-how. This seems fairly strait forward, however it never hurts to have someone who actualy knows what they are doing

C. Can get to Mesa (Gilbert and Univ.) TODAY to help with this, also may need to run to store for parts/beer/ice

I have gas money for you to get here, and will pay for lunch and beer, or whatever your drink is.

Just reply to the thread, it looks like I'm not gonna be doing much untill I gind someone with a jack and some know-how.

Thanks,
Shawn

I am not much of a mechanic, but I was putting a skid under my TJ yesterday and put it up on jack stands. I don't have a floor jack so I went out and bought one - it wouldn't lift even my stock height Jeep enough to do any good, so I went back and bought the largest bottle jack they had (lifted 20"). Damned bottle jack didn't work right, so I ended up using the little bottle jack that came with the Jeep. not only did it raise the Jeep higher than the larger jack, I had to pick up the entire front end with it in order to get the jack stand under the axel on the driver's side. Chances are, your jack will do just fine to lift up your engine. It won't be as fast or convenient as a good floor jack, but it should do in a pinch. Since I don't have any better jack (and I am sure no better technical knowledge) than you do, there is no point in my coming over to help. Good luck!

Every once in a while HF has port a powers on sale for about 70 bucks.
I got one a couple of years ago and man are those things great. Not only do they lift your heap but you can push the dents and dings out with em too.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to assist you this weekend, but if someone with a jack responds, you can drive your Jeep to them. It shouldn't hurt anything driving with the broken motor mount. As for the jacks, be sure you have some blocks to fill the gap between the jack and the engine (I lift mine from the oil pan skid).

The motor mounts themselves are easy to swap. Just lift enough to take some weight off the mount, remove the bolts, then lift it enough to swap out the mount. You might need to loosen the mount on the other side, or (as in my case) loosen the frame bracket that the motor mount mounts to. Depending upon the type of mount, you may need to start the bolts on one side (motor or frame) and then lower the jack slowly to be sure everything is lining up properly, then bolt up the other side. Then just lower it down a bit more and tighten the bolts and finally lower it all the way down and torque everything to specs.

It's a pretty easy job and doing it yourself will help you gain knowledge of your Jeep and give you the satisfaction of knowing you can fix your own junk when it breaks ;)

Well, thanks guys. I ended up just taking it over to Sun Devil Auto

I couldn't tell from looking at it, but the bolts holding the motor mount to the block sheared off. Well, actualy 2 of them sheared off, and one of them ripped out.

I'm kind of dissapointed too, because I broke it going over a freakin' speedbump! I didn't even get to break it wheeling.

Every Jeep I have bought has been one that hasn't really been wheeled before, and every time I take them out on their first trail, I break the motor mounts. So, from this vast experience I have learned one thing. When you replace one mount, you might as well replace both motor mounts and the tranny mount at the same time. If one is worn out/ dried up/ oil saturated, the others aren't far behind.

For future repairs, I recommend picking up the SUV floor jack from sears. It's got 15" of lift and has the wonderful Sears return policy! When looking for a floor jack, take the max height (21") and subtract the min height (6"). That's how you get your lift height (15"). You may be able to find a better deal elsewhere, but keep in mind that your body will be under the Jeep (not that you should support it with the jack alone)! Sears often has these on sale w/ 3-ton stands for around $70.00.
Also, if you don't have one, pick up a Hanyes or Chilton repair book, you don't have to be a master wrench turner to use it, and it comes in handy for walking you through repairs! It's what I use for stumbling through my repairs!
