Well after many months and much help by Bruce who is a fantastic body man and who I helped install them I got the PSC tube fenders installed, weled and painted.
I welded where the top of the fender meets the outer tube. Adds BRUTAL strength to the set up.
Shot them with a couple of coats of rattle can semi gloss and its rolling.
I have already provided a detailed write up of the install so this is the completion of the project...check it out at www.savagesun4x4.com

Nice write up.... That purchase was already on my list, you just sealed the deal.
Question, I see were you welded for more strength, would you not also want to weld along the inside edge where the fender overlaps the original and around the latch opening?
Welding is not really up my alley so if it not the right thing to do, please forgive my ignorance, I was just curious.

I studied that and my thoughts are:
Not needed. Albeit I have a "tack" in each of my firewall corners [see pic on website]. There are amply bolts to hold the PSC on the body and welding wouldn't add much to the overall strength. In the event of an "event" by not welding it would allow some movement of the inner fender well itself which could very well be an advantage. Also the fender on the Jeep is made out of a meatl that is thinner than a .25 cent rubber and welding it to the PSC wouldn't add a lot anyhow. There are 5 SS button head bolts that attach at that point and if one wanted, you could certainly add some more.
That's my thoughts on it, sure someone else might want to weld it in place...

You got it and I just don't the rubber bands that are used to hold down the hoods these days. They used the metal latches since '41 and all of a sudden they change to rubber bands, I'll pass.

Nicely done, sharp looking results, and better protection. A winning combination.
Take care,
