Just had new gears and an ARB lockers added to the wifes jeep, we went from 3:73 to 4:56 and of course added the ARB at the same time in the Dana 30 and 44. The work was done by a local gear shop that had done my gears and ARB's a couple of years ago. Anyway when she drives the jeep home in the afternoon about 15 miles a combination of stop and go and a couple of miles no lights, by the time she gets home diff fluid is coming out the vent tube up behind the gas tube and filler. I would guess a couple of ounces but its everyday, any ideas of what may cause the problem. The shop is purplexed as well, oh and we haven't turned the ARB's on yet nor have we wheeled the jeep since the work was done so I don't think that is the problem. Any help, suggestions or thoughts.
Thanks

Because you mentioned gas tube and filler. I'm going to take it as the problem is the rear diff.
This happened to me as well on my 8.8.
One of two things is going on. The diff has more fluid than it needs, and is just spitting out excess. Very common. Just let it run it's course over the next couple of weeks. It should quite. If it persists. The it's most likely that
you have a ARB O ring thats broken / cracked / pinched. A VERY common problem with the ARB when first installing. If you dont get it installed correctly, which is easy to do, and quite common. Your diff will spit fluid out the vent tube.
Make sure you let the shop know that your going to drive it for a week or two. So in case you have to bring it back to them to fix the O Ring. They wont tell you that you should have brought it right back in when you first noticed it. And now they cant be held accountable.

A common problem is with the several of the new style ARBs you have to drill a drain hole next to the main cap. Alot of people who have installed ARBs in the past dont read the instuctions. Take it back and make sure they drilled it.

I agree that a likely culprit is an over-filled diff. Very common thing to have happen.
However, the amount you are describing is a LOT to lose every day. You only have about 3-4 quarts in there stock, and the ARB takes up about 1/3 qt of space.
Two things you can look for:
Did they use the factory location for the diff vent? I cannot recall if that axle is on the tube or in the centersection. If in the tube, then overfilling is highly likely the cause.
If in the centersection, did the shop use the factory hole for the ARB line and drill a new one for the vent (seen it happen before)? The placement of the vent port can get a good amount of oil slung on it it not positioned properly.
What Simon said about the later ARB's is also a culprit. I thought, though, they didn't make that requirement of the 44 ARB as of yet?

Just checked with my shop. If it is the new style(part#RD116) it MUST get drilled. There is one whole page in the instructions about it.
Hope this helps

Same thing happened to me, Simon is correct, took it back, they drilled the hole and no more leak.
When are you and Helen coming up here for a weekend to relax in the pool & spa and do a little wheeling. Guest house is waiting for you. There are a few places left that have not burned up but you better hurry.
I bought 5 - 35 x 12.50 MTRs today, gettin ready to go to Moab, maybe this year if we can swing it.
Hope to see you soon. :)

Simon is correct, It must be drilled.
The ARB O-ring has nothing to do with the problem unless it blows fluid out vent when ARB is turn on.

Now that I think of it. Thats when mine did leak. When the ARB was on, and I was on a steep incline. But mine didnt turn out to be the O Ring. It was actually the vent tube placement. I had joe mount it on top of the axle. And havent had any issues since.

I would like to thank all for the response, its these little things that drive one crazy, I'll give the info to Mike on Monday so hopefully that will take care of the problem. Again THANKS ALL.
Rich you mean that there is still someplace to wheel up in your neck of the woods, glad to hear that the fire didn't get to you guys we were thinking of you. You may have to head down to Tucson to get away from the smoke and stuff up your way. Have the 35's setting in the garage for Her jeep just need to get it up a couple of inches to get them to fit, new lift is in order just haven't decided which one yet, can't have her out driving me, but she probably will.

If it all started with the install of the newer style ARB, the drain back channel needs to be opened up. The engineering design supervisor of ARB Australia sent me a new install guide last week for that very reason. He was surfing my site, reading my o-ring replacement write-up.....and noticed in one of the pics that I have an axle that has poor drain back even with the old style lockers. We exchanged a number of e-mails about it and a few other ARB topics. A most helpful person....talk about great customer service. ;)

Same thing happened to me when I regeared and had ARB's put in. Drove home from the shop and diff fluid was all over the place.
Took it back the next day and found out they forgot to drill the drain hole.
It helps to read the instructions!
