You can find more info on this run at

http://www.azvjc.org/OldSite/Default.asp

You'll need to go to the trips page and then go to the date range that covers 8/20/2005 you see the first scheduled run. Over the next few weeks more runs at different times should be scheduled

Just great, last year I was in Hawaii during the annual CK run and this year I'll be in Vegas getting married...I made the two previous years but I'll have to wait another year to do it again.

Should be fun but you won't be in CK when everyone else is there. Kinda' defeats the purpose of participating in the annual run, doesn't it? Now, maybe if you did the night run Friday night then you could hang out in CK on Saturday (though you'd have to wait through the morning for the 6am group to arrive).

I guess that is what i get for being a newbie to the AZVJC.
I did not know that everyone was going to wait for the next group in CK. So there is 2 runs that day 6 am and 9 am and everyone is going to wait around in CK for the first group? What about us that work on Saturdays and still would like to be a part of this run  I am Just trying to help out when there is only 2 trip leaders on that day for a very big club and that is the only time i have available.

Not trying to rag on ya. :) You're right that 2 other trip leaders for a group the size of the AZVJC isn't enough. (It appears that many of those who lead runs in the past are not volunteering this time.) In the past, there have been so many people going that there have been runs at 6am, 7am, 8am, 9am, and 10am. Plus there has usually been a Turkey Creek run that ends up with people driving in to CK from the end of that trail (which is at Cleator). I believe Hackle said some of the Rock Rats are considering doing the Turkey Creek run since it better lends itself to "trailer queens". :D

The intent of having multiple runs is to spread everyone out so there isn't one huge traffic jam. But it always turns out that some groups catch up to the group ahead of them. Any way, people usually hang around in CK a few hours and, with groups arriving almost hourly, you get to socialize and check out the other rigs.

Since you're limited by your work schedule, do what ya' gotta' do.

I never took it as you were ragging on me. :) Just having conversation. I am pretty much new here and don't know all the traditions. I will learn them :D Please do not take anything in my reply as offensive either. Just asking questions so i can get the jist of things. Now i know. I wish i could be there to see all the Rigs and meet the people. I can't. So i will run in the night. Cya
Thanks.

Just got back from running Lake Pleasant to CK with a buddy of mine. Trail is very different from last year. Unless I missed it you no longer have to go over the ledge. The trail has a major crack in it. You have to climb a little hill that takes you around that part of the trail. With about an hour breakdown it took us 6 hours with limited stops. Trail is rockier than before. To a degree it’s like running a new trail. I'll be working on the jeep as it died on the trail and I had to drive it home in third gear. No power in the others. If it's not ready by run time I will still be leading sitting in the passenger seat of my friend’s jeep. As the other posts have listed we still need more trip leaders. The 6 AM run needs a tail gunner. I talk with the folks at the Saloon and restaurant they are looking forward to us coming up. Business is really down.

I still want to do a Northern group from the Kirkland Jct side, maybe an 8 AM departure?, but I will not be able to commit until 8th or 9th. I don't know how good of a leader I will be, having not made this run since last fall. :D ("Which way did they go?--I'm their leader!") At least I have recovery equipment & survival gear! :D

Nena, et al:

I would be interested in the route from the northern end. Can a stock Rubicon make this trail or is a lift needed to make it safely?

Unless something has changed drastically, a stock Rubi should breeze through, BUT you should be prepared that your skid plates could get "friendly" with some rocks. Careful wheel placement and an easy touch with the right foot should get you through unscathed. Anyone else have input who has been through this year?

From the northern end, I am thinking of a meet at the country store near Kirkland Jct. then take Wagoner Road across, splitting southward near the Button Mine and catching the Tiger Mine Road (the top 1/2 of the trail known as "the backway to Crown King") and on in to Crown King. I plan to take the Crown King Road home after the prerequisite patronage at Mike's place, then Will's place in Cleator. :D Ooooh! Now I am getting excited!

Special Thanks to Kent and Huck for leading and tail gunning this 9am trip!

It was an absolute blast and my neice and Dad couldn't stop talking about how much fun it was. It was a long day but even with a few breakdowns and with so many jeeps, Kent set a good pace that was not too slow or too fast. While Huck made sure no one was left behind and that spare parts trail fixes were available to those who might have needed them.

I wasn't expecting much difficulty but more than a few of the obticles were really very challenging and made the day very adventurous. I was 3rd in the lineup behind Kents jeep. Saw him tackle one big long stair type obsticle that veerd to the right while the bypass was on the left. He made it look easy so I went that same route on the right. Made it to the top by the skin of my teeth. Doubt I wouldve made it without the help of the guys in the jeep behind me getting out to spot me when I was in a precarious position. Thanks guys.

Got lots of film footage of many of you and if I could ever figure out how to get it to the PC then I'll put a link here someday.

Going to watch the home movie tomorrow with the rest of the family.

Thanks again and was good to meet all of you in person.

Ya, I had a great time with the early group for sure... I would like to thank everyone of all times, that took the time to round everybody, and everything up to make it happen... The trail went smoothly, and to my surprise, it didn't take as long as I thought it would... Thanks everyone for the good time... both on the trail, and at the gathering in town.. :-)

I'm really bummed that I wasn't able to go on the run this year...it looks like there was a Bud light gazebo in the background...was that just a coincedence or did they sponser something.....

Please post up more pics and reports... how many jeeps total, how was the party after, how was the run and how was camping?

I'm soooo jealous... :(

As Tail-gunner for the 9AM group, I rolled into Crown King just after 5PM...... :D Now, that's a long day on the trail. I wanted to thank everyone who trusted their spotters and those who helped with the recovery.

The Libby driver deserves some Kudos for making it up and he really learned how to handle the rig as he went. Congrats.

We had a great run of approx 25 rigs. We lost one YJ (no 4wheel drive), flopped one, lost a couple of bar-pins, one driver's rear spring, and a few took straps and cables.....

Good fun, with a good group of folks. Without the cooperation everyone showed, we would have had an even longer day.

Thanks for letting me eat your dust...... :)

I wanted to thank everyone that came out for the 8pm night run. We had 13 or 14 Vehicles and a great time. We only had a few problems, a couple of flats, a lost bead, Broken exhuast, a strappin or two and a few leaky axle seals. Typical Crown King problems and nothing more. I had a great time and i hope everybody else did too. 8:30pm to 6:00 am was good time for it being night. Thanks to Jeff Stewart for running Tail and fixing up everyone when they had problems. It really sounded like you had a busy night back there.

I had a blast tailgunning. Special props to Doug E. in the CJ7 taking most of the hard lines with a carb., losing his exhaust and wheeling on.
A few pulls here and there a tire change, and tire carrier (both on the other Jeffs Cherokee :D ), I popped a bead (gettin twisted), reseated on the trail. i also blew my rear axle seal. It didnt bleed bad till I got it home and left it in my driveway at an incline. Great Trip!!!!!!!! :D

I led the 9:30 Northside Run, departing from Kirkland Jct. Special thanks to Lyle and Norma, our tailgunners. They did a great job of keeping the middle moving, and we didn't lose anyone. No break downs, not even a brush scratch! :) Oh, did I mention that there were only two of us on the run? :D
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2014&stc=1

So we had two Jeeps: me with Darryl and Jan in the company Jeep (2" lift, 33x10.50's, open) and Lyle and Norma in their gorgeous red Rubi Unlimited (5.5" lift overall, 35x12.50's, and too many other mods to mention). We came in Wagoner Road, which is usually pretty easy all the way to the junction with the 711 from Castle Hot Springs, just before Oro Belle. In fact, we took the Excursion up that way last year. Not any more! The road is washed out so bad before Button Mine, that it made it fun for the Jeeps! Here is a comparative shot:

Last year, Wagoner Road near Campbell Flats:
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2017&stc=1

This year, same stretch of road (about 50 yards up from the last pic):
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2016&stc=1

I didn't have the Jeep in there for scale, but the ledge was barely wide enough for the Jeep, and the Excursion would be SOL. We had to drive up the creek for about 1/4 mile, which used to be road, and there was some long sandy stretches, and some fun little erosion cracks--just deep enough to get my front left tire about 3-feet in the air, get a grin from Darryl and a screech from Jan.

We took our time, stopping to snack and check out various points of interest along the way.
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2015&stc=1

I had estimated about 3.5-hours from Kirkland Jct to CK, but with Wagoner Road in its current condition, and then getting in the line with the Jeeps coming up from Lake Pleasant just before Oro Belle, it ended up being a 5-hour trip.

By the way--what line were we in? I met Lee, the president of the Mesa 4-Wheelers--all Rubis and one built Liberty.

The trail was about what I expected from the reports: rougher in some spots, easier in others, but overall, about the same. My Jeep had no problems, and didn't scratch or scrape anywhere, although I did back down once to readjust my line on the bypass. Overall, it is still an enjoyable trail for stockers and modifieds, alike. It was fun to see the changes!

We made it to Crown King at 2:30. Some of you already saw the pics I posted from the Saloon on the other thread: http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=9236 I meant to speak to Kyle and Joe about their rock stacking...in the parking lot! :D And what about the crazy local guy in the pickup who we peer-pressured into trying to park on the rocks?!

I will post the entirety of my picture collection on webshots in a few days, and will post a link then. Marty--send me an email!

I can't say enough about how much fun we had. We saw old friends and made new ones. Saw some awesome rigs. Great views. Good food. Great weather. I wish I could have met all the new faces I saw there, but WOW!--what a great turnout! What an awesome group we have! :)

Is it too late to start planning next years? Not if we want to make some changes or additions. That said: The run seems to generate a lot of interest with a reported 92 Jeeps in attendance this year. Sounds like it was great and a good time had by all. So why not "kick it up a notch"?

"Annual AZVJC Run & BBQ” Having done CK before I noticed that it doesn't take a lot of people to generate a crowd and getting something to eat was not easy and this was a off Saturday April a year ago.

What I would like to propose is some kind of meet-greet-eat after a fun run. I asked Nena if there was a place we could do it up there and she didn't seem to think so. Ideally, it would be able to handle a 100+ crowd in people and rigs. Be nice to have covered pavilion for sitting and eating. We could cook ourselves or have it catered. Personally, I am for doing it ourselves. I had a good friend who started a company and every year he would have a founder’s day picnic. The company was only a few folks on year one and we had it in my back yard. I did the cooking and a couple of wives/girlfriends helped. We did it that way until we were feeding well over 300 people at the local park, so it’s quite doable by a few of us. However, we kept it simple, burgers, hot dogs, beans, and sodas. All you can eat and drink $10 a head, kids under 12 eat free. Or something like that.

Issues to be addressed:
Where?
Should it be tied in with CK run, if so is “time” a problem since CK is so long of a run?
If not done with CK run, do we tie it into another shorter run?
OR
If no run, how about a Show, Shine, Lie and Fart at a local park which has cooking and covered facilities and parking.
When?

Thoughts and comments?

Don, we already have one of these at Hunter's every year. As for doing it up there, well the logistics of that would be crazy. There is no way to please everyone, and with the runs leaving from as early as 5:30 am all of the way to noon, with an avarage 5 hour run, well you see where this is going. This time frame that I have noted, allows for NO breakage, pictures or drink breaks as it is. I think the hunter BBQ pretty much is the VJC standard. Its hard enough to get everyone inline with the BBQ now, and its planned at least 6 months ahead every year. There is always someone who cant make it or wants it at another time. The club BBQ has been great for the last 4 years too. It is also alot easier to get stupid with your junk in Johns parking lot when your trailer is less than 500 feet away......:)

OK, we got one NO vote for sure.
"Think the hunter BBQ pretty much is the VJC standard" is annual enuff? Can't do one on the CK run as there isn't time and "the logistics would be crazy".

Lot of good reasons why not!
