Ok not everyone but most people want something for like nothing. I'm trying to sell my softtop for my TJ with tinted windows and everbody thinks 100 to 150 is to much  with everything hardware and door surrounds.
Ok so the thing is not brand new and the windows are scrached a little and has a hole in the upper passenger side corner from a rock (flxyxj) knows :D
I guess I could just give it away but that would not do me any good. I have it posted on the oldsite and everyone that calls is like wanting it for nothing or they just want the windows. I no longer need the thing and want to get some cash for it insted of it sitting around.
Some people just call to talk and act like they are gonna buy if you want it call me but if you have to talk to your wife or something don't call.
Ok I'm done ranting for now I think :D

well when I can get a brand new with windows for around 200.00 a damaged top for 150 is a tad high...maybe 75.00?

rule of thumb for selling used stuff
good condition no damage.............50% to 60% of new
minor damage deduct accordingly 5% to 25% additional
I jsut bought a used one online for a friends TJ in Nevada with all hardware and glass. for 90.00 in near pristine condition 150.00 is jsut way to high

I had a top that I advertised, new in boxes OEM Sailcloth w/tinted windows and all hardware. I had several offers of $75 for it, one guy went as high as $150. Frankly I was embarrassed for them. I also discovered that several of the folks were buying it for resale!! I sold it, $650 cash.
The other day I stumbled across a bargin, 4 35x15 NEW unmounted MTR's for $500. I couldn't use them, but knew many others could. So I posted on them but didn't tell anyone where they were located. I wanted to be sure that who ever got them, put them on their Jeep and not sell them. That culled out a lot of folks.

I'm thinking $100.00 to $150.00 is a very fair price for a complete soft top with tinted windows, and all the mounting hardware. Unless it's got some major damage.
Dont give in to the low ballers. Just hang onto it. You'll get what you want. ;)

Yea some folks are doing resale. But I think all the TJs folks need pretty stuff. Now if this fits an YJ, you got a deal, a few dings and holes are just perfect. I bought alot of stuff from Scott Maiden, so you know they had some imperfections. Please no heat from TJs just kidding. I know this is a Virtual TJ club so you think there be alot of interested jeepers. I am going to SOA on my YJ and all the stuff I have been buying and selling I feel sometimes that I am in the resale business. Anybody need a almost complete 4 inch lift for an YJ? Tires? Rims? Hardtop? Dana 30 and 35 parts?

I've had a lot of stuff for sale here and on the old site. same deal bro!
something for nothing.
And I just end up giving it away for peanuts and a hand shake....
BUT sometimes the handshake is worth more than the peanuts :) .
Maybe the guy that you sell the top to for $70.00 will turn around and sell YOU something for real super cheap in return.......
Call it what you want.
Its a Jeep thing, a life thing, a VJC thing. I call it the broke as hell thing. LOL
Heck Im probably one of the cheapest guys here!
(family of 5 and Im the only one that works)
I try to find the smokin deals because I have to.....
If I can't aford it I usualy try to make it myself!
My 2 cents

Hey now!
I have 3 girls wife, dog and 9 Jeeps (I've acquired 3 more since I've been in AK) to feed
I kind gave up on selling... most of my last "sales" have included (primarily) trades (and ended up with more stuff to take up garage space... oops!). Although I generally end up about even, the value of helping someone who appriciates the "deal" sqew's the trade in my favor.
Like someone else said... it all comes back to you sometime

I have bought stuff FROM the AZVJC classifieds.
And I have sold stuff from the site as well.
I think it was one of the best things about this site !
Buying & selling locally. Face to face transactions, instead of getting ripped off over the internet :(
PLUS it is a great way to meet people. :D

EXACTLY RIGHT !!! In "perfect" condition a used item is worth half it's original value. Then you deduct for any damage.
Another good idea is to put a price in your ad
I hate ad's that say "Make me an offer" or just "Best offer"
This gives the perspective buyer NO IDEA how much you are expecting to get for your item.
And it kinda sends a message of "I dont really care if I get much of anything outa this , I just want it gone"
So if you dont put a price in your ad, you cant really complain about people making low offers, since they have no idea how much you think you should get.
MORAL of the story = Put a PRICE in your ad. If it is non negotiable write "FIRM" after the price.
Awhile back, and I had a 37" swamper I was selling for like $30 and a guy wanted me to meet him half way, and he lived in Tucson
I asked him why would I spend $40 in gas and 4 hours of time to sell you a tire for $30 ???

The first time I did Price in my ad but I figured since like 200 is to much for a soft top I figured I would just have some one offer come on I mean 100 bucks for a complete soft top with tinted windows and all the hardware aint that bad. If I needed a softop I would be all over it.
I always see people saying they need a top for cheap well here is a complete top for cheap I would love to give it away but I need money for parts to.
Yes it has some damage but it aint that bad, it is functional and works.

Having sold quite a bit of stuff here and in Texas I concurr that pricing is:
40-60% of retailing SELLING price, NOT MSRP. So if MSRP is $998 and its all over the internet for $800 by the various retailers [4 wheel drive parts, Quadratrac, etc] then you can expect to sell it for about $400-$600, if its in EXCELLENT condition AND is the current model.
Start subtracting for wear and tear, out of date model, bent, missing parts, paint peeled or and this is the biggie, the primary function is imparied. Lets say you have a winch and everything is just in excellent shape except it doesn't spool out but otherwise works. Wham, you just took it in the shorts. Or your selling a ragtop that has a small hole in it, but in otherwise good shape, again, WHAM, primary function impaired. Expect to get bottom dollar at best.
You have to remember that people replace because of function. My top has a hole in it and I don't want to buy one that does, won't do me any good. My winch is not working why buy yours that not working either, even if it looks better than mine.

I agree with you, if I needed a top. I would be all over that :)
I just went and looked at you ad. (no price :( )
If it was mine, This would be my ad.
Complete soft top with tinted windows, includes everything needed to install it.
Frames, all hardware, even has door surrounds !!!
fits a 1997 - 2002 TJ, the color is ????
$100.00 FIRM (no trades)
It is a Used top !
The windows are a little scratched and it does have a hole in the upper passenger side corner.
Used door surrounds sell for around $50, and the tinted windows are easily worth at least $50.
So basically I am giving you the top and hardware for FREE !!!
It must sell complete! I will not sell parts of it. (if you just want part of it, buy the whole thing, and sell the parts you dont want)

I do have to say you were asking a very fair price.
Door surrounds on ebay go for anywhere from $75 to $100 alone.
I picked up my soft top off a member a year and a half ago, used, good condition, with tinted windows for $150, and I felt that was a very fair price so I did not even offer less.
Might be they were scared off, no price might have made them think you wanted too much with out really knowing.

my pricing rule:
everything is worth what any one person will pay for it within the time you have to sell it
if you want "fair" value for something, be prepared to wait/advertise
if you need money or need to get rid of, ya gotta sell cheap
and always remember, when you sell cheap, inevitably someone will call the next day offering more than you were asking  (or you will suddenly have a need for it and have to pay 2-3 times what you sold it for)

True stuff!! I cannot tell you how many times I have sold items just to need them a week or three later. Oh well, now I have a garage full of stuff I will never need until after I sell it. :)
Take care,
