Looking to do Turkey Creek this Thurs (the 30th). Need to find a trip leader since I have never done this trail before. For any further info see post "Anything open close?" in this thread.
I am flexible as to what time we do this. However, I think that the earlier we meet up and get going the better. However, DragonFly will not be happy with this :D
Meet: McDonalds at I-17 and Carefree
Time: 8am (however I am flexible)
Duration: Most past posts say this is 5 hours with a small group.
Needed: Trip Leader
All suggestions welcomed.

Can you post it up on azvjc.org too?
I can lead if no one else can, I've run it a few times, but I'd prefer not to because I don't have a winch.

It's posted.
I will be heading down from Sedona direction. Were would be a good place to meet and at what time. I'm thinking Bumble Bee exit, would like to know what time you could meet me. See your leaving from Carefree at 8:20.

Karen (aka Dragonfly) feel free to chime in. I am not really sure how long it takes to get from Carefree and I-17 to the Bumblebee exit. Send me a PM and I will give you my cell.

I think if you are there by 8:45 you should be OK....

Please be very careful about the high fire danger. If you smoke stay in the vehicle. Do not drive through high dead grass areas. I would hate to see a fire all over the news started by a Jeep Club.

Me too, glad I don't smoke.

zman I like the bumper mounted bottle opener!! It looks like they are closing parts of I-17 intermittently due to the fires up north. Be careful.
Take care,
S
Karen, Mike, and Brian. Nice meeting you and had a good time. Hope to see you on the trail again.

Well it was a nice trip. There were 4 of us on the trip and had no major problems except Brian broke a track bar link (?). Anyways, it was mostly dry but there were a couple of sinkholes that had water in them. I really cannot see how this trip can be rated a 3plus rated trail. I think there was only 2 spots that we need a little spotting, besides that this trail can be done in a Geo tracker. However, I heard that when there is water....it is a WHOLE different story. Here are some pics.

It was nice bumping into you at Cleator. Cammi and I left the bar and turned north on the Blue Bell Mine Rd. Holy cow did I get in over my head. After 4 hours on the Senator Hwy I thought the route to Mayer would be easy.
This being my first off-road experience in the new to me 2000 TJ was more than I expected. There were a couple sections on the Blue Bell where we were climbing over the Bradshaws that I wondered if we would clear. It took a couple of tries but we made it. I was exhausted when we got to Mayer.
So, here's a question for you... On a rocky trail like Blue Bell is it better on the tires to have 15psi or 32psi? I was amazed to see the beating the sidewalls took with 32psi. I plan to air down on the next adventure (I will have a Viar400 next week). If I had been aired down this time I wonder if the tires would have survived.
Anyhow, I'm in Prescott every weekend. If you guys plan another adventure up here I would like to join the group.
Take care!
Randy
PS - Thanks for the info on regearing. I'll call him next week and see what sort of cost is involved.

Too bad you could not have made it for the whole trip. This is a perfect trip for a beginner. In regards to airing down. Why not? Most people air down to 12-15lbs. It helps everywhere on the trail and will give you a more comfortable ride on washboard roads. In regards to the Viair 400p. Well, I just bought mine the other day and I tried it out for the first time yesterday. It did not work, however, I think that it has something to do with my valve stems. Hope to get this corrected soon.

I had fun yesterday, nice meeting everyone! The ride is always worth it just to have a $1 beer in Cleator! ;) :D
