help a 17 year old kid out with his jeep

my jeeps motor has this wierd consecutive back fire almost like timing but have no idea. I have done all the timing i could the only thing i didnt do is the points. I think it could be maybe like a valve or something but i was hoping to get some help from someone that might have some better idea than i do. What type of Jeep and what motor??? Someone might be able to help or give ideas over the forum...

I talked to Jeff for a few minutes last night before I had to go to work. He has an older CJ5 but it will probably need to actually be looked at to troubleshoot this one. The Jeep has been recently rewired, had fuel tank cleaning and line work done, and has has an aftermarket carb installed. There are so many variables on this one that it basically needs to be looked at starting with the basics. Could be fuel, ignition, mechanical, or anything else.......
