I was thinking about meeting at the Loves gas station at 9 AM. Not sure exactly what trails to run, it has been a long time since I have been done there too, so I hope I remember where to go. I was thinking about running Appetizer, but I am open to anything.

Souns good. Where is the Loves gas station? The last time we were out we ran Appetizer, Tax Collector, Firebird and then Tie Rod wash on the way out. Was a great time and only took about 5 hours even stopping alot. Cypherjoe do you have your vital parts covered? Armor would be a plus. Firebird would be harsh on stock clearance. I'm sure its been done stock by somebody, but last time i was there my bottom took a good beating and i'm on 33s.

:( I need a steering box plate and a oil pan plate. But if it gets too rough I can always find somewhere to go pass some time or something. I'll go pretend I'm The croc hunter and wrangle me some rattlers! :D

I've got Sunday off so I might be up for this little gathering. Been there a few times but don't ask me to lead anywhere, I'd be damned to remember where things are. :D
As long as you don't mind me taggin' along and don't mind 35's on a 35  and no lockers are needed, I'll see what I can do. :)
Good thing about Love's too, you don't need to have an air source cause theirs is free. :D

Ya, you might want to get those coverd. I think Appetizer and Tax Collector you might be alright. The cool thing about the trails is the main road goes right along the side of them so you can pull off the trails here n there. Dw9549 did you post this at the old site too?

You might want to call the Sheriff's office first, I read on another board that the Sheriff had a tent set up out at Miller Rd., and was stopping people. They make you sign a paper that you have been told to stay out, they take your license number and if you get caught after that it's $1000.00 fine. There was no info on going in a Watson Rd., but I would check first. Hope this helps.

I really want to go, but I'm on call this week and my beeper just won't stop beeping. Thats my last day on call, so I might be able to get someone to cover for me. DW I will let you know towards the end of the week!

Same here, not to say it isn't happenign though now. They are building things up.... Always entered off Watson Rd. too.

This is something new due to all the new houses. What I heard was the closing is due more to shoting than 4 wheeling. I would just check to be sure!

but if you check, wouldnt that be tipping them off, rather than us running it and them not knowing, especially if there were restrictions? tough call.

I did see on the news new signs, but there have always been signs out there. In the past they just required you to have your State Trust Land Permit. Due to all the new home construction the shooters are becoming a problem and some irresponsible wheelers/quads/bikes have been tearing up the construction sites. If you stick to Watson Road and head straight out you should be ok, I checked right after that story with STLD and they said it was not closed, but you do need your STL permit to be legal out there or it is a hefty fine.

That would make sense if the Sheriff was out there as they are the ones that usually patrol state trust lands. And the fine for not having a permit on state trust land is usually pretty hefty. It's definitely worth the 15 dollar individual or 20 dollar family membership. Hopefully the law enforcement presence can keep the traffic down out there and keep the Tanks open for us longer.

I go out there all the time, go in off of Watson Rd, there are a lot of new homes going up so part of the road is blocked. Don't use Miller Rd. TOO MANY! shooters
I'll be out there Sun. so if you want me to show you around, my little xj will lead you.......lol

I have not posted on the old site, I am having trouble logging on to it. bgwhtjp33 if you want and are willing to lead, I am more then fine with that. Actually that would be better since most of us haven't been out there in a bit. Is Loves on Miller Road the best place to meet up and the we can all head to Watson? If someone else can log on to the old site, post it up for this Sunday at 9:00 or so.

For those who do not know, Loves gas station is on the south side of I-10 off the Miller Road exit. Take I-10 west out of town to Miller Road exit. Go left under the overpass and Love's is right there. Be there at 9:00.

how and where do you get a permit?????
You can get them at the State Land Department in downtown Phoenix. I think the address is 1616 W. Adams. You walk in, spend 2 minutes filling out a small form, give them your money, and then leave with your permit. It's quick and painless.
There may be other places or individuals from whom to get STLD permits but I'm not up on those sources. I believe at one time, 4 Wheelers Supply and Sandee McCullen sold the permits.

I've been out there a few times, gone in off Watson Rd. and have never seen anyone there. This was a couple of months back though.
As for State Trust Land, I've never heard of this being State Trust Land. Anyone have links and maps to the area and how exaclty can someone put no tresspassing signs on trust land? Isn't that for use by anyone that has the permit?

We can always go out there and find out the scoop. I may go scout it out tomorrow. If we can't go there does anyone have an alternate plan?

The Gila Monster and Cheap Trick trails are in the Buckeye Hills area south of I-10. Gila Monster can be easy or more challenging depending on the lines you pick. It's short but fun.

Anyone know where to find out what land is what, BLM, State Trust, ect. Sure would like to know if the Sheriff Dept. can shut down said land, as I have never seen any No Tresspassing signs.

I was just given this link, check it out:

Gila Monster and Cheap trick have pretty much become null trails. The shale has filled in almost all the obsticles except the large fall on Gila monster.
The only thing that will make these trails good again is one big huge monsoon storm.... kinda makes me sad since they were both awsome trails when I found them 6 years ago..

So what what does everyon think we should do? I think unless we find a another place to go I am going to still meet at the Love's at 9:00 and find out what is up with the area. I think we will be alright to go up Watson. Open to ideas though.

Am I getting this??? You installed a new flowkooler water pump, but now it is overheating on a ride around the block??
If that's the case, I'd say you either have air trapped in the system, or the fan blade on backwards (can you guess how I know that one :o ).

Ed, I dont know what all you have done at this point, and dont want to sound like a know it all. BUT, did you check the thermostat and your fan clutch?
If the thermostat is stuck or only partially opening, and if the fan clutch isn't working properly, she'll get hot. I found the best way to check the thermostat is just pull it and put the housing back on. Then the motor will take forever to get to temperature if everything is ok. See if you can spin the fan, if it spins freely, its shot. With the engine cold if should turn by hand but not spin freely. If it spins freely it will not suck air through the radiator for cooling and run hot. But you may know all of this and have already tried these things, so its a shot in the dark and if you have I apoligize for butting in. Although I am curious and please let us know what you find.

Yeah I'll let you know, I've got the hole thing apart right now. Fan clutch is about 2 months old feels good, rad. out water flows good with hose, water pump and thermostat are out. Took a wire coat hanger ran through the block and head best I could, with the hose in the threm. opening a little bit of crud came out the pump opening, not much though. Going to get a new therm. see what happens....

We came in off of Watson. There is some more construction there and some tractors parked in the airdown spot that were not there before. We had no problems. No police and no signs. On the way out we looked for any no trespassing and State Trust land signs and there are none.
I can not say if it is leagal or not but i see nothing saying it's not. It has turned into a trash dump n a half out there and it is sad. That might just end up getting it closed.
