OK, ADOT has changed the date of the Red Mountain Freeway opening from 6/18 to 6/25 due to rubberized asphalt paving. The time has also been moved up from 8 to 12 to now from 7 to 11 due to temperatures. Details are on the old site and more will be posted as I get them. Please sign up on the old site to this show and the 6/11 show so I can secure enough room for all of us to park our rigs on the freeway!

The public is allowed on the freeway from 8 to 11, but they will be closing the participant ramp at 7am, so we will need to be there by then.

Which ramp do we use? They usually have one ramp setup for booth holders.

ADOT hasn't sent me the setup details yet on this one. I'll post it here and on the old site as soon as I get it.

OK, I just got directions from ADOT for this event. This is to open the Red Mountain Freeway (Loop 202) from Higley to Power Road in Mesa. The 202 in Mesa runs East and West approximately 1 mile north of McKellips.

People that are going to be displaying their Jeeps are to enter the freeway at Higley EASTBOUND. That ramp is for participants only and will be closed at 7:30am. If you are displaying your Jeep plan on leaving it parked there until 11:00.

Spectators will be entering the freeway westbound from Power Road.

The big opening ceremony with the Gov will be at 9:00.

Please remember to bring:
*water - beverages will be provided, but bring extra water anyways
*sun screen
*a hat
*more water
***also, if anyone has any type of pop-up shade covering, please bring that too.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I will have my phone with me that day in case anyone needs directions. 602-690-7046

Not sure if I will go but if I do, how does one get there from the west side of town. I'm at I-17 and Peoria Rd.

Reminder for your southeaster Valley people (like me) - the eastbound 60 will be CLOSED at Gilbert. You'll need to find an alternate route to Higley. Maybe go up to the 202 or take Country Club.

From the west side if you're at the 17 and Peoria you could take the 17 south to the 10 east, then 202 east all the way to the end. OR take the 101 towards Scottsdale and then the 202 east to the end.

Here's a map from the Republic of where the last opening was and where the one this weekend is. It says the new section is opening 6/27 but the party is on 6/25.

Wayne,

You might want to give an update to the email list as well. I know some members don't check the BBS. Especially the time and entrance procedure.

I look forward to seeing you there...again!

BTW, did you manage to get a ramp this time? If not, it's okay but it would be cool if you can. Need anything else?

Thanks,
Bill

OK, Friday night update. I have already dropped off the RAMP (Thanks 4Wheelers Supply) and one Jeep. DPS is onsite overnight for security. We will be sharing a generator with other groups, but they assure us it has enough capacity for all of us. If anyone has a shade tent, pop-up or otherwise, please bring it.

I'm bringing out the tv and dvd player and videos again. I still have the banner from the last opening, so that will be there too.

It looks like we have a great location this time. The DPS helicopter will be landing right next to us and a lot of people love to look at it. We are in the gore triangle at one of the exits, and Evonne from ADOT said we could even use the dirt area of the triangle for more room if we wanted. We could make a great display if anyone wanted to stack Jeeps.

I have printed up new AZVJC business cards on my computer so we should have enough. We have tons of information forms and handouts and even some cool giveaways this time (Thanks Hackle).

I sent a reminder out the the group on the old site, so I think that goes out to Yahoo. See the post a few below this one for all of the info on getting in.

Am I forgetting anything????????????
Questions, call 602-690-7046. I'll have it with me.
 Be there before 7:30. They close the participant ramp then.

Also, if anyone is interested, there is a Monestary just a mile or two from this event if anyone wanted to go eat and have a beverage :D :D or two after the show.........

I will at some point make it to one of these but tomorrow is not my day. I'm just too beat from lack of sleep last night and seemt o not be able to sleep now to catch up. Plus I just hate people right now. So I wouldn't be a lot of fun. :p

Have fun and take plenty of pics!!! I wanna see what this is like.

Hopefully I'll make the next one. :)

We had a great turnout today! Thanks to everyone for coming out. There were 9 various jeeps including 3 Cherokees, 1 grand Cherokee, CJs, YJs, and TJs.

We handed out lots of information and AZVJC business cards. The goodies from Hackle were definitely a big hit with the kids. Thanks again to 4 Wheelers Supply for the use of their ramp and DVDs.

The DPS helicopter landed and was on display maybe 75 feet from the last Jeep in the line. Very interesting watching the other booths get blown away during the landing.

I'll post pictures from the event a little later today when I get more time.

Excellent turnout. Thanks to Wayne and his family and everyone else who attended and especially those who "worked the booth". Wayne made arrangements to drive out to 4 Wheelers to pick up the ramp (thanks 4 Wheelers!) and take it back. A lot goes into these things and thanks is due to those that do the work.

We had loads of fun. It was a tad warm today but at least there was an air-conditioned bus acrossed from us for a little heat break. I have GOT to get one of those canopy thingys.

I took pics and video but I'll have to post later because I need to get out to fix my front disconnect before the cleanup tomorrow.

Well after leaving the opening before time with the help of a police officer and Wayne stopping people so I could get out. My hubby is ok. 5 1/2 hours in the ER. he is home. He broke his wrist and they set it but will not know much until the swelling goes down. I met them at the hospital and told my daughter she could go home and some lady rear ended her. She is fine will deal with the car later. What a Day.
Anyway had a great time at the opening I love getting together with other 4 Wheelers. It was awesome to see the helicopter landing right next to us. Thanks everyone for showing up and Wayne for organizing it.
Here is the link to the pic's I took today at the opening.

Wow Kelly! Sounds like a real FUBAR'd day. Tell Kevin to get better soon.
And we thought we had a bad day at the Cracks as all the battery packs for the video cameras, (that had been recharged the night before), DIED!
Was there a big solar flare or something?

Thanks everyone, I just hope they don't have to do surgery on it. And for the car the women that hit her said she would pay for it.
Thanks,
