Anyone interested? Just want to get out and have some fun. Would be my first night run of this year.

Game plan would be:

Meet at the Riverbottom Saloon in Florence (located just south of the Price Rd/Box Canyon entrance) at 7:00. I'd probably go there a bit earlier (6:30-ish) to have a burger. Have a drink then head to Elvis and Jackhandle. Head back out thru Box Canyon and maybe stop into the Saloon again to top off the tank, and head on home.

Other, extremely simple run option, would be to do Bulldog Canyon (located north-east Mesa / apache junction area). Tonto FS Permit required (NOT the same as the State Land Permit!). Could meet for dinner/drink at Red, White and Brew on Power/McDowell at 7pm, then head to the trail from there. Some watering holes to stop into in AJ once finished as well, if anyone is up for it.

This has been chosen as the final game plan. Have 3 of us confirmed right now. Anyone else willing to join, meet us at the Saloon!!!

Elvis and Jackhandle are both good 3.5-ish trails. Recommend 31-33" tires, the lift required to fit them...1 traction aid (locker/lsd) can be a bonus. There's a squeeze on Elvis that can make rocker guards quite useful, too...especially on anything longer than CJ/YJ/TJ.

See ya,
Tom

Wouldn't those trails be easier if you took the Jeep off the trailer? :D

Tom - I finished replacing my front axle shaft so I'll see you at the Riverbottom Saloon.

Sorry we didn't see this before we left, Jamie. The original plan was to run Elvis and Jackhandle, but as it turned out we ran Elvis and Upper Ajax, the latter of which you realy need to be locked for.

It was a fun trip. I rolled into home at 5:30 this morning and just got up a few mins ago

There were 9 rigs - A few CJ's, a few YJ's, an XJ, a ZJ, a Zuk and and a Unimog. One of the YJ's was Kip, the owner of the Riverbottom Saloon. He's joined us on a couple of night runs now after we've shown up for a burger before the trip. The Mog was driven by the father of one of the guys. It was cool watching him run Elvis. One of the rigs busted a front hub and when we finished Elvis, he, the Mog and the Zuk headed out. The rest of us ran Upper Ajax which is a blast at night! There were a few minor problems but we all made it through OK and the trip home was uneventful.

It was long but a ton of fun. My goal was to be in bed before the sun came up and just barely made it! Unfortunately my dog decided it was time for me to get up at about 9:30 am. Since I never sleep that late, I think she was checking to see if I was dead. :D

Yep...good time for sure! A lot more rigs than I was expecting...since I only had confirmed replies from 4. But certainly not too many. Glad you all could make it out.

Sorry we missed ya, Jaime. Had you been there, and wanted to do a second trail, we would have stuck with Jackhandle.

5:30AM Matt??? I was home by 4AM. How many times did you stop for "oil" on the way home? :D Does your wife read this forum??? :D

I think it was 5:30 when I hit the sack, so it was probably more like 5:00 when I got home (I was tired). We only stopped twice but we alsokept the speed (revs) down so it took longer than usual to get home.

Anyone get any pics? Unfortunately I left my camera (and GPS) on the kitchen table. Someone had to get a pic of Kip's rig on it's side on that first Elvis obsticle.

Hey Tom, you guys must have been the group we saw just getting to the tank at Upper Ajax. We were the 2 rigs coming down the hill from the end of Upper Woodpecker...kinda got intermingled on the CB with the 2 groups :D

We ended up running Lower, Middle, and Upper Woodpecker. We were thinking of continuing on through Upper Ajax, but we were undecided and when we saw all your group going that direction, we thought it would be better to just call it a night rather than having that many rigs on Upper all bunched together.

I'll tell ya what though...night wheeling is a different animal, but oh so fun!

That was us. You should've come along. We got through it pretty quickly. The only issues we had were a short timeout to zip tie a diaper (pigpad) on my oil filter and reseat a blown bead on the ZJ.
