This is the latest ADOT freeway opening event. It is on the Santan Freeway (202) from Loop 101 to Arizona Avenue in Chandler. I have posted a run on the old site for people to sign up on. We always have a great group attend these. It's a real opportunity to show the public our responsible use of the public lands and to put out some pro-outdoor propaganda to offset the huge amount of negative publicity from the 'greenies'.
It will be from 9 to noon, but in the past we have always had to be there around 8. The freeway entrance to the participant side has been closed by 8:30 with noone admitted after that time.
Always a good time, and a chance to socialize without doing any damage to our rigs! My wife and I will be bringing out both of our Jeeps, and If I find an XJ for myself by then we'll find a way to take all 3 out there!
I've got the application part taken care of with ADOT, so we just need people to sign up and attend! I'll add more info as details become available.
As always we could use a generator if someone has one available, and I will get in touch with 4wheelers supply to borrow videos. This time of year we could use a few shade canopies too if anyone has that.
And one of the most important things............ DON'T FORGET THE REMOTE CONTROLLED JEEPS TO CHASE CHILDREN, DOGS, AND LAW OFFICERS WITH!!! :D :D
Hope to see you there, and don't forget, Tread Lightly!

Awesome, also close to me.
We'll probably be there so I'll sign up. I guess they'll give us more info about where the participant entrance is as time goes by, huh?

Damn, Mike going to Kansas for vacation? I spent 23 years getting out of that place. Plus the Chiefs aren't even playing.
You know I think another member was working on some jeep coloring books for these types of occasions to go along with our flyers and cards.
Chris, did you all ever get those done?

And of course I'll be there with Generator and RC Jeeps... I still have the Banner from the last Sonic Deal...Just needn TV and VCR... Can we do something to eliminate glare ??? It is a problem everytime! I'll plan on being real early so I can do my normal switcheroo with the group name tags to get us the spot we want/need... Last time the "Central Az Bellie Dancer Association" never knew what hit 'em !! Heck, Evonne with ADOT is used to it by now..... Thx JeepCJman for dealing with the paperwork ! I'll get both my TJ & XJ there this time as well... Let's go for BIG qty of Jeeps this time ! Any Ideas for anything different ??

Looks good Rich!!!
No, the vacation is not my idea...wife is from there, and her mother still lives there....got to please the wife this time.
I am taking the wife to San Fran for a weekend in August. Drop the kids off at my parents, and fly out....that's my idea of a vacation...

If anyone is interested I thought we could try to get there early this time and the Jeeps that are locked up (mine isn't yet) could be stacked. I'll be there by 7:30 and can be the center point. They always get a lot of attention when they're in a big pile!
I've got TVs that I can bring with VCR and DVD. Thanks Bob for the generator.
What do you think our chances are of getting business cards again? If I could get a template emailed to me I would still be willing to print some up myself. I think my alzheimers is kicking in again..... I STILL can't remember who does those for us. :o
Hey Eric, ADOT said you couldn't display yours on it's side or upside down! It has to be right side up!!!!! :D

No way - I get to work from home and it pays very well. Having to work the occasional weekend is a small price to pay. Besides, the weekend rotation is only until they get some full time folks to work weekends, then it's back to M-F.
In the meantime, I just miss the odd run/show that happens to fall on the weekend I'm scheduled for :(

We won't be able to have the ramp there for use during the show unless someone wants to put their Jeep up on it and leave it there the entire 4 hours. We can't move the vehicles during the event because there are so many people walking around.
However............ If someone wants to display their Jeep on the ramp, I will be happy to try and round up a ramp and get permission from ADOT.
Any volunteers???????????? :D

Thought I should post again to prevent confusion. This San Tan Freeway opening is still going on as scheduled on 6/11 from 8am to 12 noon.
The Red Mountain Freeway 6/18 show has been postponed until the following Saturday, 6/25 from 7am to 11am.

I'm planning on going out for the 6/11 opening. Where exactly are we going to enter the freeway and meet?

OK, I just got directions from ADOT for this event. This is to open the San Tan Freeway (Loop 202) from Arizona Avenue (Country Club) to Loop 101 in Chandler. The 202 in Chandler runs East and West approximately 1 mile south of Chandler Blvd.
People that are going to be displaying their Jeeps are to enter the freeway at Alma School Road EASTBOUND. That ramp is for participants only and will be closed at 8:00am. If you are displaying your Jeep plan on leaving it parked there until noon.
Spectators will be entering the freeway westbound from Arizona Avenue.
The big opening ceremony with the Gov will be at 10:00.
Please remember to bring:
*water - beverages will be provided, but bring extra water anyways
*sun screen
*a hat
*more water
***also, if anyone has any type of pop-up shade covering, please bring that too.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I will have my phone with me that day in case anyone needs directions. 602-690-7046

I didn't arrange a ramp for this one because I didn't get any reply with anyone interested in leaving their Jeep up on it all morning for display. We won't be able to move the Jeeps around while the event is ongoing. We have the other freeway opening in North Mesa in 2 weeks and I can arrange one for that if anyone is interested.
Don't forget, any flavor Jeep is welcome. I'll be bringing 1 CJ and 2 XJs.
Hey Bob J, I just wanted to confirm. I know you said you had your generator, and I will be bringing the dvd player and dvds from 4 wheeler supply. Can you bring your tv again? If not, I can unhook one of mine. Just thought I would check before I undid the cable spaghetti behind it first.
Any for anyone that has their Jeep in pieces, we would still love to have you out there! You can always drive one of the RC Jeeps for a while!! :D :D

I saw an article in Sunday's AZ Republic, I believe, about the freeway opening celebration. It mentioned the three automotive clubs in attendance including the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club. Way to go!
