I will be leaving Phoenix that Friday night and heading to Big Bear for a weekend of wheeling and camping. There's campgrounds and lots of primitive camping in the area so if ya got nothing going on for the holiday, come on out and join the fun.

It was a long drive out there (my throttle body kept sticking open but I thought it was the throttle cable until I got to manning, ca). I got in late Friday night, set up my tent and hit the ol' air bed/sleeping bag. We all got up early on Saturday and set out for the trails around 10am. We had 2 TJs, an XJ and a Ranger. We found the John Bull trail and proceeded to spend the next 6+ hours driving over lots of rocks. It was a pretty good trail. Nobody in our group got stuck but we watched several idiots...I mean people, do lots of stupid things to get stuck. No real carnage other than seeing a Scout catch his fly wheel cover on a rock and jam it into his flywheel. He had to be pulled off the rock and pry the cover back so he could restart his engine...kinda funny when you're just a spectator. The only damage in our group was a flat tire (I would never run Procomp MTs, crappy sidewalls) and a twisted rear drive shaft (both on the XJ). We changed the tire on the trail and didn't notice the driveshaft until we got off the trail. Pulled the driveshaft once we got back to camp and spend the next day in San Bernadino looking for a used one. No luck, so the XJ drove back to San Jose on Monday in front wheel drive. Overall a great trip but would have liked to spent Sunday wheeling instead of fixing. Oh well, them's the breaks.
