Ok I'm going to build a cargo trailer to tow behind my wrangler. I am thinking of making something similar to this only with a few of my own ideas added:

http://www.4x4trailers.com/LV416Btrailer.htm

It is going to be a 4x6 trailer that I can unbolt the tub and use as a flat bed utility trailer if the need be... my primary unknown is what axle and where should I get it from. I have an extra set of wheels from my wrangler that I would like use on the axle so do I need heavier hubs . I'm thinking of 235x75x15 tires but i do have a set of 31's under the barn... hmmm  . Will a northern tool axle do the trick? one like this? clicky (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&productId=7765&R=7765)
The trailer above uses a 3500lbs axle don't see the need on a 4x6 trailer. Do I maybe that to run full size tires? There isn't a dexter dealer near me so what other options do I have?

For the rest of the trialer:
I'm going to do which ever is cheaper either 12 gauge C channel or 12 gauge rectangular tube for the frame. reciever in the rear and 14 gauge tub.
I am going to use this thing to move to az as well. Can you tell I'm living light right now... tools, fishing poles, hunting stuff, oh and clothes :)

thanks,
tim

I once built a RTI Ramp / Trailer that used one of these Northern Axles...

Click (http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&productId=620183&R=620183)

Made it pretty easy to just weld the axle square and that was it.

I would go with half torsion axles (http://www.etrailerpart.com/halftorsionaxles.htm) to keep the area under the trail clear. Airstream trailers have been using the half torsion axles for many years. They should be good for the weight you plan on carrying. I have that setup on my VenturCraft camp trailer.

flxy, thanks for posting etrailerpart.

OK, I don't want to thread jack, but do the half torsion axles have a decent "spring" in them? I have been thinking about going with those if I build another trailer. They would give a nice amount of clearence if you want to use the trailer for more of a off-road use.

How's about this one, seen on a Blue Elk trailer. I believe the axle was homebrew...

Or something like this?

The last was on a Cavalier trailer, I lost the website.
Sorry, I don't have any purchase info on these.

Well I did some research and found out that it is a nightmare to get a homebrew trailer registered in Pa... supposedly takes 3-4 months with tones of paperwork/inspections/fees to get a vin plate, title and tags...

oh well... I found a trailer at tractor supply for $350 that with a few modifications will do what I need for now. And comes with everything to make getting tags a sinch. :)

I am definitely going to build a trail trailer though some day. I guess I will just sell the wheels and tires I have to help pay for the trailer.

thanks anyway for all your help
