Gotta book with a map and a desire to get lost some. :) Probably going to meet around 10 am. This will probably be an all day trip since we will be looking for places to play also. Meeting at the Wendy's at Beeline and Shea.

Consider yourslef chalked. :D I live at Reems and Hearn if you want to Jeep over together. Jose Moratalla signed up on the "Old site" and I believe that James Martinez is also chalked as a maybe.

Unfortunately, I won't be going out for awhile until I get some things fixed.

If you guys are coming from the North/East side of town, you should run it from Bartlett to Beeline and do the river crossing first thing (dep on flow rate). Maybe take a drive over there before hand and check the water level below the dam.

The last few times we've run it from Beeline to Bartlett we've not made it past the corral due to time constraints. Next time I run it, I'd like to start at the Pay Station and do it that way. An added bonus would be getting to ford the river twice if you don't have time to make it all the way to the Beeline :D

That sounds like a good idea Matt. I think you were with the group the last time I went on this run. Do you have the GPS co-ordinates for the run??

Unfortunately, I don't, but if I were going, I'd know the way.
I know from the Pay Station you head south toward the boat yard/lockup, then head right/south again and the pavement ends. The road goes around the hill and then down below the dam. It flattens out, passes a grove of trees on the left, passes some buildings (one house) and ultimately dead ends at a fence. Make a left then an immediate right and it drops you into the riverbed (which was dry the last time). From there you sort of make your way down to the water crossing. Back then the trail in the riverbad was somewhat well worn and recognizable. Since the rains, I imagine it's completely changed, but you should be able to figure it out fairly easily.

Here's where we crossed...

http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=12&n=3740743&e=439251&s=50&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25

Disregard the dashed line of the "trail" on that map. We entered the water about where the "F" of the word "Ford" is on that map and drov upstream and around the island (not shown). I would assume you'd have to do the opposite and drive around the island, then downstream and through the bushes/trees to get back on the trail. Of course the whole area may be completely different now. The main channel may not even be in the same place

From there, it's just back across the dry riverbed and upstream a bit until you find the entrance back onto the Powerline trail, then follow it north through until you reach the intersection with Log Corral, then right (east) up the hill to the corral and points beyond.

Nothing major enough that would keep me from going but I need to quit abusing her and take care of some things.

I've got a pesky oil leak I've been putting off fixing and I want to handle it once and for all.

I've also need to replace my transmission rubber mount (between the trans and skid plate). One of the two bolts spun. Also, one of the skid plate/frame bolts spun and I need to tap it out to the next size up.

I still need to replace the exhaust from the cat back - the muffler is full of holes and there are a few cracks so I have zero back pressure and it runs like do-do.

I also need new front leaf packs. The Jeep used to sit level, now the front is a good 2" lower than the rear

Tons of other things but those are tops on my list right now.

Sheesh!! It is to bad that Rich and Cathy are on vacation. Rich always gets a kick out of going on my runs if I show up on time and I intend to be the first one at the Wendy's parking lot for this one.

From what I have found out we will be turing around at the river since it has been too high to cross. Make sure to bring your cameras there should be some good flex spots, plus you might have an opportunity to catch the trip leader doing somethting unwise. Waitaminute!! That's me!!

Can this trail be run with open diffs, 4" lift, and 33x12.50s? If so, does anyone mind if I come along? I don't have a lot of experience, but I can follow directions!

Brian,

I think you should do fine. This is just a reminder that the meeting time is 10 am at the Wendy's on the left side of Shea near the Beeline Highway. Hope to see you there!!

Take care,

Shawn

If you aren't meeting until 10am, it's highly *unlikely* you'll get all the way to the river crossing, or even down to the lake. Of course, it depends upon how many in the group and how quickly you move, but given the changes from the rain/floods have made the trail a little more challenging, I think you'll be doing well to reach the corral in time to head back out to 87.

:D :D
Well, that's the only way that Shawn can be on time for a run.

I might be able to make it, although I hate starting that late when it gets light at 5, and I will bring a blanket in case I have to sleep in the Jeep since I don't have any rock lights.

We'll make it, haven't not finished one before dark yet!
Blame the timing on me...I'm not a morning person or a rush hour person!
I need to sleep in on my days off! :D

And besides...if every one is at Wendy's before 10 then we will leave earlier ;)

:p :D Shawn, you can bring all the nail polish and lipstick you want, just don't be wearing it like you were last time. :)

I gotta go pack the heep now, I don't want to be late. If I'm not there on time leave without me, it means something bad happened on the way.

Rich I just returned what you left after our last run, plus your compact. :p

It was a good run yesterday. I was the first to be at Wendy's followed by Rich and then Karen. We were a bit nervous when no one else had shown up by 9:50 but between 9:50 and 10 everyone else that was definite rolled in. We left Wendy's by about 10:10 and hit the trailhead not long after. Jeff had the trailhead programmed into his GPS so it was easy to find. Kelli joined us at the trailhead and we all aired down and took off around 10:30-10:40.

We got to the rock field where Lyle and Kelli turned back due to time constraints. The water flowing through the rock field and the moss made passage more interesting than it had been back in October the last time I did this run. We all made it through (and again I vowed to get a lift) and then continued to the corral. We had lunch there then went down to the lake. From there we took FR393 out and aired up once we hit pavement.

Rich had to climb out of his Jeep and close a couple of gates but other than that there were few delays. :D

We hit pavement around 6:45 or so then went our seperate ways. I would like to thank Jeff for leading and Rich for tail gunning. It was a great trip with a great, and patient, group.

Sounded awesome. So the river was crossable? Next time I'll try to make this run, getting back so late would have put me really late for dinner.

We did not go to the river because of what what others have said and how full the lake was. I hope to have pics on my WebShots later tonight. Got quite a few of someone stuck.

Shawn

First off I don't use a compact so it must be your boyfriend's.

Well, I have to give Shawn credit, he was not only on time but early. I got there before 9:30 and he was waiting. Actually he was in that little 4X shop in their restroom brushing his teeth and removing his cucumber skin masque. I'm sure he spent the night in the parking lot so he could be on time. :D

We did have a great Log Corral run and for those of you who will run it in the near future here is my time line and opinion of the trail. I think we left the air down close to 11 and after a few min delay getting started we arrived at the rock field about 11:30 and got six jeeps through by 1:00 PM. Three were lifted with lockers, one lifted and open, one lifted with LS and one stock Rubi, no lift, skinny tires, two dogs, ah...make that three dogs and his permanently installed tow strap (as seen in several pictures) in order to be pulled (twice) backwards off of a high center (he will tell you it was to pull me through but those on the run know better). If you have lift, 33s and at least one locker, I rate this trail a 3.5. If you are open with less than 33s I rate it a 3.5+ only because of that rock mine field that has no bypass. Last time I did this trail Matt & Bruce spotted me through with 3.73 gears & open diffs with much difficulty but it was dry. This time with water running, 4.56 gears and air lockers it wasn't much of a problem. Without clearance and at least one locker it could be a long day.

I did read Shawn's report on the other board and I think he has been reading too much of Don Pryor's posts as he got a little flowery. Anyway I didn't think we got through the rock field like "snakes crawling over a Fear Factor contestant" but more like a buckin bronc tryin to get out of the chute before it was opened. A lot of bouncing around with very little progress. Any way I think it's time he got a lift and tires.

There was one other place where we needed a spot and a couple of places that had some pucker factor and finally out of the wash and onto a gravel trail to the corral at 2:04 pm. Had lunch and talked about going to the river, decided against it and no one wanted to go back over the rock field so it was decided. We would go down to the lake and then exit by way of 393 North, the powerline trail. We left the corral at 2:35, got to the lake after 3 and left it at 3:30 and what beautiful scenery from the powerline trail overlooking the lake from high on the hill (you can see my pics at http://community.webshots.com/album/344001713uZhOUX ). As we got away from the lake and went even higher the trail got a little boring with only a few wash outs to keep your attention. There are a few areas where you run on the edge with a steep and long drop but nothing too severe. After a couple gates we hit old 87 at 6 PM, thats about 3 hours to exit on the powerline trail from the corral if you skip the lake and if you go back the way you came from the corral I figure 3 hours but you must run the mine field of rocks in reverse. After air up and BS we headed home at 6:30, I made it to Cave Creek and home by 8 PM with a total of 150 miles round trip.

Jeff was a great leader and as usual Shawn was entertaining, also a special thanks to Danny for all his spotting. We all had a great time and I would like to do this trail again only starting very early so we could go to the river and if it was not crossable still get out on the powerline or back the same day, not interested in spending the night in the summer heat so maybe I need to get some rock lights although I can't see worth a damn at night.

OK, that's my story, thanks to everyone who attended, see you on the trail.

Rich :)

Rich the pink and yellow compact had "Property of the Creeker" written in your flowing script on it and you know that the time you made me try your cucumber mask creme I broke out. Denial and jealousy are terrible things folks. :D

How come you labeled the picture of my....assets being checked out "The beach"??

Here are most of the pics I took. Not quite as good as Rich's pics but then again my hands are rough compared to his which makes working the small camera buttons a little tougher. I will have to find out what kind of sugar rub he uses....
