Hi gang,

You may have noticed that the board was down for awhile this morning... I was transferring our forum information to a backup server and we will be testing the board's performance on the backup server for a couple of months.

The forum you see here is an exact duplicate of the forum that was running on my Apple G5 home system. The new server's specifications are as follows:

Sun Microsystems Ultra 80 Workstation
Quad 64 bit 450Mhz Processors
4Gb RAM
Quad Fast Ethernet card
36Gb disk space (I'll need to increase this later)

We're going to run on this Sun server for awhile to test it... depending on the forum's performance, we may go back to my Apple Server or simply stay on the Sun and use the apple as the backup (which is what I'd prefer).

There are two reasons for this change:

1. Having a backup server is absolutely necessary now that we have sponsors for the forum... it is a MUCH bigger deal if the forum goes down because some of our sponsors depend on it for communication.

2. vBulletin has had an AMAZING number of security holes in their software lately. A recent one made my ENTIRE server open for hackers to browse my computer... understand; our server also doubles as my personal machine and the thought of people using the forum to obtain any of my personal files was troubling (to say the least).

The transition to the backup server has gone fairly well... now begins the trial period where we see how reliable and fast the new server is... I'm guessing it will be a great server.

Those who started with the forum on the first day we came online may remember that our first server was a Sun Microsystems sparcstation 20 quad processor machine running 512M of memory and 4 200Mhz processors... to the best of my knowledge, it ran very well until I replaced it with the Apple.

Please... pay special attention and look for any odd behavior of the forum and point it out to me in the problems and suggestions area so I can get it fixed.

Kind Regards,

Joe

Thanks Dave... The sad part is; I've spent more time working on the forum the past year than I have on my Jeep
