I was under the impression that members of our website could get discounts at discount tire. I went to the location just north of the 60 on power road and they almost laughed when I mentioned a discount for our group.
are there specific locations only that will give us discounts? I am trying to get some Mickey Thompson Fun Country 2's; anyone know any better all around tire?

Why would you want those ???
IMO: Mickey Thompson tires suk

If you want a good "all around" tire, I am assuming you want an "all terrain"
BFG all terrain ko's are the best IMO

well its a 2000 tj sport with a 2in lift and disconnects...I dont do alot of trails above 3.5; im more into crusing through the woods and playing in mud and sedona. It is my daily driver so tire wear is a selling point; another selling point is I play in the snow and Ice a lot(the army sends me to colorado occasionally)
I would like an aggressive look to the tire but need something with sipping to grab on the ice. Any other tires that come to mind, please list them.

BFG All Terrain ko's
I think fit your needs perfectly.

They are a great "trail" tire .
They ride great on the steet. (quiet, & handle well)
They are good on snow and ice. (factory sipping, "discount tire" can add more if you want)
They are ok in mud, as good or better than any other "All Terrain" (Disclaimer: nothing but a "Mud Terrain" is truely good in Mud)
Aggresive looks, for a "AT" (little side lugs are cool)

Keep the air pressure correct, and rotate them every other oil change, and you will easily get over 50K out of them.

PLUS they are readily available, so if you get a road hazzard, any store you pull into will have a replacement "in stock" and get you right back out on the road! You get some kind of Mickey thomson or ??? they dont normaly carry your screwed, waiting for a tire to "ship" into the store

Remember "black walls out!" and ALWAYS buy the "Road Hazzard replacement certificuts" esspecially if you go 4 wheelin !!! :D

yeah, whatever on that one. I would put my Baja Claws up against any other aggressive tread radial tire out there. But that is about the only MT tire I will run. And to whoever said that if you buy a tire they don't keep in stock your screwed? Well all I can say to that is why don't you have a spare? Rick ordered 2 new Claws for me on Monday and they were in his shop on Tuesday.

Take a look at the Goodyear MT/R. They have excellent off road abilities, are quiet on the street, and with proper care they will last a long time.

And definitely give Rick a call for any

I have to agree with Jack on that one, the old Mickeys blew, they had no tread life and added no value, only looked good. Jack's Baja Claws have done pretty good.

I have MTR's and think they might be what you want. Proper care and you can get 40K out of them. I prefer these to directional tires that is why I like them better the the Baja Claws, and I think I get a bit more life out of them.

Mmmmm yeah. BFG Mall Terrains. I have them on the Wifes 5.9 ZJ and they just out and out suck. They dont hold a balance, when I first got them, they warranted 3 of them for "Belt Deformation", they are shaped like Eggs....where do I stop???? It was the worst $$ I have EVER spent. There is a Nice new set of Rubi Takeoffs with less than 2000 miles on them (MT/R's) That will be going on there before we sell it. I would never be able to sell it with those BFG's on there. Oh yeah, Did I mention the tread squirm on braking??? I would put a Goodyear A/Ts on there before All terrains. Just my Humble Opinion though.... :D

Recently my wife went to his store to get tires for hwer van, but NEGLECTED to ask for Rick. She is now working off the money we lost by doing my chores around the house. amd considering the amount I do around here it could take a while :p

Man, thats to bad.

I have heard about the problems you pointed out, BUT in the 8 or so years I've been running BFG ATs and MTs I have not had a complaint.
And trust me, when I have a problem and dont like something, I could be a PITA,
Thats why I dont bring my Junk to your shop :p
I do-it-myself, then if I dont like it I have only MYSELF to blame ;)

FYI, I have had nothing but bad luck with "Goodyear A/Ts".
I've had them come apart and I still have one with a Egg sized rock stuck right thru the center of the tread

Am I gonna bad mouth them, then claim they "SUCK" or are "JUNK" ????
NO !!!!

They are just not the tire for me... :)

Well since some of the readers "1BLKJK" are not reading/Quoteing the entire message I'll spell it out in more detail.

I NEVER said GOODYEARS SUCK .............

I stated that they were not the tire for my application...

and

Say BFG SUCKS untill your lips turn purple, BUT THE FACT IS, BFG has been in business along time, and that doesnt come from selling CRAP.

And YES there are many tires that will out preform any BFG, but the fart is, there is a time and place for everything and different tires for different budgets/applications.

So have a nice day :) :) :)

Back on topic now kiddies. :D

I personally have had nothing but good times with my BFG AT's when I ran them. I had them (2 sets) for over 4 years on my Jeep and never once ripped a sidewall, had them go on a 13k road trip w/o any incidents, including a few off road excursions, and they handled great in the snow and rain. They wear perfectly too. I even ran a few trails out here with them and they never failed me before the lift and new tires, which are now siped MT/R's.

As long as you wheel within your means, aired down to the proper pressure, you should be fine.

We've used GY ATs at work and I am not impressed with them at all, but they were on a 3/4 ton truck with a load of tools and parts in side boxes. I have used BFG AT for years and run them on all my vehicles except for my TJ, (35" MTRs there)

I ran BFG muds many years ago when I lived in Oregon. They never gave me any trouble and did fine for most of my wheelin. I ended up switching to Swamper SSR's simply because of the wet/muddy trail conditions up there and I needed a tire that would clean itself better.

Since moving to AZ, I upped from 33's to 35's and didn't need the SSR's anymore so I went back to BFG's. I would have gone with MT/R's but the budget is tight and I decided to go with a tire I *know* is good and I've used before.

I'll likely try MT/R's at some point but for now the BFG's are working great, as always.

yeah, whatever on that one. I would put my Baja Claws up against any other aggressive tread radial tire out there. But that is about the only MT tire I will run.

Problem is the post was not looking for an "aggressive tread tire" he was looking for an ALL PURPOSE, HIGH MILEAGE TIRE Mickey Thomson tires SUCK, the claws are their only 1/2 way decent tire, as long as you don't mind a directional tire that limits your rotating and makes you guess which direction you want to mount your spare, and you never need horizontal traction on a trail. the Claws are neither a "all purpose" or "high mileage". BFG AT is both.

And to whoever said that if you buy a tire they don't keep in stock your screwed? Well all I can say to that is why don't you have a spare? Rick ordered 2 new Claws for me on Monday and they were in his shop on Tuesday.

Of course I carry a spare  The point I made about buying tires that are "stocked" is you had to make 2 trips to discount just to get your tire replaced, with a BFG AT it would have been done in one trip.
Lucky for you were not out on a road trip, where you could not go back a day later. say your traveling between here and Colorado and you have a blow out, you pull into a discount tire and they don't stock MT Claws, what are you going to do??? camp for a day or two until they order your tire.

These post are funny that people jump in recommending whatever tire they run personally, with no regard to what the original post ask for.
I recommended BFG ATs even though they are not what I have, I have had them several times in the past on different vehicles and I felt they fit what he was looking for.

Well i went ahead and purchased the BFG allterrains from the store on mcclintock. Mr. Beer is just to far away from my home on the east side of mesa. I got the 32-1150-15's and cannot believe how smooth these tires are on the highway and the side lugs seem usable(the smaller tire sizes seemed to have to small of side lugs to be used).
I now have to adjust my steering stops so my new tires will not keep hitting the lower control arms.
Thanks for the advice. These turned out to be cheaper than pepboys allterrains.

HAHA!!! Now that was Funny.....

As for Bang for the buck tires...

SWAMPER TLB'S Cheapest Baddest offroad tire for under $120 bucks... New sizes are comming too... but for the Average 3.5 to 4 trail runners that run 31-33 inch tires..... You can't go wrong.. Yeah sure they are bias but if you want a street tire Go wheel the Mall... You can expect 25 to 30 thousand miles out of these super sticky swampers and if you rotate them often, keep good alignment and run 32 to 35 psi on the street you will be happy with your $460.00 set of tires..

Now that my friends is BANG FOR THE BUCK !!!! :D

Crawldit

LTB's :D I run the 33x13.5 flavor. If I didn't drive so many highway miles I'd buy another set. I've run them down to 8 psi with non-beadlock rims and never slipped a bead. If I had OBA I probably would have tried even lower. 20k miles and mine are bald but for the price you can buy two sets for the price of a single set of MTR's. Oh yeah, with a 15x10 rim I run 18 psi on the street, anything more and the crown wears faster than you can blink. Hmmmmm, maybe I will buy another set ;)

AZXJ
04-25-2005, 11:23 PM
Rotate them more often and run the proper tire pressure on the streets and they will last much longer... I got about 27K out of my first set and they had plenty of tread before getting rid of them.. I wanted new ones after they hit the wear bars... Oh, and I didn't drive my old XJ like a little old lady either.. I commuted 100 miles a day when I first started running the LTB's.. Most of those miles were in the 80mph range too...
