All replies are appriciated.

First: The gains are small at best. Having said that, it looks great, which may offset the small gains.

The AEM is one of the best looking, but most expensive.

If you want the gains it provides and are not focused on its bling, then check out mine: www.savagesun4x4.com

Looks ok, but its real cheap as its just a K&N with a "SOCK" [must have] on the end of the OEM cut off tube.

Looking at the various dyno curves, it appears that the gains are in the high side of the rpm curve at the expense of the low. By their data, you would actually lose low end torque and HP. But you can't beat that sound!

I agree with Don, I don't think the performance gains are equal to the cost of the product. That being said I am running the AEM intake on mine. But I didn't have to pay for it. AEM put it on there powdercoated gray with the MOPAR symbol on it. They are trying to get the OEM contracts with MOPAR and were showing jeeps off to the bigwigs.

Well I guess the truth is now out:
1) You are pimping out your TJ or
2) You are a bigwig

So you need to come clean with us :D

Okay so you got me. You are right on both accounts. I happened to be in the right place at the right time and got a free air intake. Luckily for me since I don't pimp anyone stickers on my rig that it say MOPAR on it instead of AEM. And yes I am a bigwig. Actually i'm more big and bald.

In my case the performance gain from the intake and tb spacer was worth the cost because it was FREE :D :D :D

Let me qualify this before I go any further.
I do pimp my junk to Airaid now and then for free stuff.
I am currently using the new Airaid intake and can honestly say it made a marked improvement in power. I had always used K&N stuff on the Jeeps before and pretended it made a difference. This intake really did make a difference. I don't know how much it costs because it was a freebie, but it works.
The down side for me is that I don't like how defenseless it is against water. You can sock it but there really is nothing like the stock airbox to protect you from water, except a snorkel that would last about 3 minutes on the trail.

I've got the K&N FIPK kit on my YJ 4.0. Ever since I put it on I've been able to use 5th gear again (3.07 gears ratio on 31 inch BFG MT's). It made a noticeable difference to me. Of course now that I've gone to 33's I'll be re-gearing.

I have the AirRaid intake (freebie) and a DynoMax cat-back setup on my 97 TJ. The two really do add some pep to the 4.0. I like the DynoMax muffler because it is still relatively quiet for a high flow system.

This one is unfinished. When bought new the boxes are black.

Ok, so mine is only a 4 banger, but I do have a high flow cat, muffler and 2.5" tailpipe. Everyone said I would hate it, I would lose in the low end. Well I did not feel any loss low end, but a difference on the freeway was felt for sure. Picking up speed on the freeway was also better, in the same distance, same setting and pulling it throught the same RPM's I now got on the freeway at 3+ mph faster. Not a big gain, but when you only have 4 angry squirrels under the hood anything to get them pumped up more is better. That was the increase from the new exaust only, I had the stock TB at that time, a K&N on a turbo city intake tube and a Jacobs. The before and after had only the exhaust different.

Talk with Greg at Mightly Muf'ler, he can set you up right and at a very good cost.

And Don yes it takes a very bigwig to cover Jack bald head. :D

My first TJ was a 97 with a 4 banger. I had an Airaid intake with a Gibson cat-back exhaust. I'm not sure about power gain ( never had it on a dyno), what am sure of is that my MPG dropped through the floor. I went from around 16 mpg to 8 mpg. This was a 2.5L automatic with 31" tires. Not to mention the noise.....the exhaust was so loud that my wife refused to ride in it anymore. When I bought the 03 she made a point to tell me that I could modify anything on this jeep that I wanted except for the intake and exhaust

Good call. Since I couldn't make mods to the intake and exhaust on this one I just lifted it to the point that she couldn't get in and out anymore :D A perk of being 6'5"......there's no steps on this jeep ;)

You can always make one out of PVC if u dont want to spend the money...just a suggestion. I made one for my *cough*civic*cough*

No matter how much you spend, whether its Air Raid, K&N FPIK or PVC pipe. Just remember, they all suck!

A buddy of mine in Tx made one out of a coffee can and tapped into the air vent intake. He swares by it.

I have the dynomax cat back. Can't say I noticed a power increase, but the looks over my rusty stock tail pipe is great and it has a nice tone, not too loud.

If its a Folger's can then it should work, "It's not just a cup of coffee".

By the way, in 04 or 05 they changed the intake to include a sensor, which you can see on the backside. The breather is now hooked over to the old air box.

If you have the 05 and get the aev bruteforce, then you will need to come up with a few more mods to make it work.
