Today, spent 1 hour, 30 min and 15 min making 3 really super mod’s to my rig.
The first was a in cab winch controller I picked up from www.roadlessgear.com , about $29.95. Allows you to control your winch from inside the cab. It does not negate the use of the hand controller for outside the cab. Sure beats dragging the hand unit back and forth. And if one doesn’t watch, you can run over it on a dark muddy night since its 12 foot long. Its a clean and simple install DEPENDING upon your winch. The integral solenoids on my Warn 9.5ti were not so easy since the winch has to be removed and disassembled, no small job. I drilled a hole in the back side and siliconed it for water tightness. I also added a trailer hitch plug so I could remove the winch without having to disassemble it on the front bumper.
The next mod was to cut my OEM console in half. The front half is just for looks anyhow. Also keeps it from rubbing on my shifter or transfer case shifter. This is a dremel tool job. Remove console, cut just in front of cup holders reinstall and enjoy the appearance of added space. The big benefit is that it allows you to get at the top of your transmission very easy. 30 min job for the unskilled and NO COST.
Lastly, I added the “Pleather” OEM shift boot that is found on 04/05 and up standard transmissions. Not having the console in the way helps a lot. Toss old rubber boot and use the internal splash boot and its 4 mounting points. About 15 min at the most, cost about $12 bucks at your Jeep dealer.
