Hey I want in on this too. I love my four banger. The old 134 F-Head
is still chugging along nicely. It may not have the whopping 72
original horses still working, but it has never failed me yet.
Besides, if I had something bigger and stronger in it I would be
breaking alot more stuff. (i.e. axles, U-joints, me, etc..) besides,
I can go all weekend on one tank of gas. :-)

Yeah, I'd like to join you. I should have my CJ trailer-able by
then. I was planning on going in Sept with the group but didn't have
myself together, but I still want to go sometime this year.
I've done half a dozen trails out there and am somewhat familiar with
the Moab area. I'd be interested in running about the same
difficulty in trails. Count me in tentatively ... I'll know more in
the coming weeks once I get a trailer and get my CJ roaring again.
Please keep me posted on your plans and I'll do the same.

Ryan I'm confused. You said you don't mind helping out those in need but you
also said you find it irritating.
If every one on the trail could only be there if they had built their own
Jeep there would be far fewer supporters of the off road sport. Now if were
talking about someone who breaks down and then expects someone else to jump
in and fix the problem without lending a hand themselves and learning a
lesson along the way, I could agree.
I have done the mods on my jeep that I feel I was capable of doing and still
have a vehicle that is safe to drive and not prone to breaking down. I have
had those mods that would have affected the safety of my vehicle done by pros
that know better than I.
If I happen to bust something on the trail, rest assured I will do what I can
to fix the problem myself, but I may ask for the advise and assistance of
those around if I am unfamiliar or unsure of the task at hand.

Yeah, I'm constantly amazed at how fast Aaron can drive his TJ. You'd
think that with those big 'ol Swampers that he'd get some sort of
vibration out of them. Of course, I'm really just jealous because I
get other vibrations long before I reach the speeds he drives at.

Plus, who actually wants to get back from the trail fast. Last time
I checked that meant back to responsibility, bills, smog, traffic,
etc. So I figure if my 4 makes me take longer to get home, then so
be it. And yes I'll have to leave earlier, but same concept.

Hmmmmmm. A 4 banger on V-8 hill. That sounds familiar. I wonder. Just
kidding Roger.
I too feel a 4-banger is fine. They save parts in the long run. BUT, there
are times that some serious low end torque are appreciated. We little engine
people get by with lower gears. Most of the time that is just fine. Thats
one reason the 350 I have is still sitting outside in its donor vehicle.
Well, that and the thousands needed to finish swapping the engine, tranny,
and axles. All of which are needed to cope with the new found power. Why did
I start this again?

Ok,
Don't everyone go crazy at once here and start uploading pictures
like a mad man, but the image file upload capability is ready at the
website.
Again if you have problems, please let me know and include your O/S
and Browser information. I'v avoided all vbscript on the client side,
so hopefully Netscape won't puke on it.
One note: the site will accept only jpg files. Really large files
will cause the script to time-out. I resize the files anyway, so make
them reasonable (less than 100kb) when you try to upload. I also
change the JPG quality/compression to 50.
The Edit/Delete links are not yet functional, however the "Link
Image" does work. Note that you can view and link other member's
images to your Jeep. So if someone has a really great pic of your
jeep you don't have to download it and then repost it.

One more note:
Some older browsers and AOL 4.0 and below don't support the file

support file uploads.

I scored 420 a while back on the Jeepwave thing. I get allot of looks when I
drive my Jeep on the street. (probably because people are afraid the damn
thing is gonna come apart before their eyes).
I usually wait for TJ guys to wave to me first, and I must say, I'm glad I'm
not holding my breath while waiting. In the interest of "showin' 'em how
it's done", at the last minute, I'll wave, figuring they probably don't even
recognize their Jeep's Great grand Pappy as even being a Jeep. Truly amazing
at how often my fingers fan the air unreciprocated. Where's the Love, man!
Even if I wasn't in a Jeep, it would be kinda friendly to return the wave,
YJ and XJ/ZJ owners are next on the list of unresponsive Jeepers.
Whoever said they are being too cautious and safety minded while driving,
I'd have to say bully for you, at least some of us recognize when they can't
walk and chew gum... (I can do it, I just bite my tongue ever once in a
while and stomp my feet periodically) How tough is it, really!!
The best response I get is usually from people who are not driving a Jeep.
They practically go crazy trying to get my attention to let me know they
think I got a cool ride..........or that I'm dragging something... Hey at
least the thought was there!
I can honestly say, I try to wave at every Jeep (hand outside the body of
the Jeep, so if they miss it, I know I'm being ignored). I think the sight
of me in my Jeep must scare them or something..... probably make all the
girl Jeepers nervous, they never wave back....'course it would probably help
if I was a little more in line with what is considered attractive.... Hey,
maybe we're all ugly, and that's the "good looking Jeeper's" way of telling
us.....

that makes me more deserving of a wave. I love my Jeep more than just about
anything, but all in all... it is still a vehicle. If some silly young girl

Having owned a 95 YJ 4 banger and a 99 TJ 6 I'd have to say there is no comparison. I liked the 4 until I got the 6. I'd never go back now.
But in defense of the 4, it was a great little trail motor. Of course it didn't have 35" tires either :) But a 4 cylinder Jeep is still a respectable offroad vehicle.

Thanks Lisa, very well put.
As the Tucson Rough Riders Sponsor cordinator
AKA - raffle prize beggar. I have to agree.
Although I highly understand the beef on shipping
charges too. Two years ago I took my Jeep
to New Mexico to get it lifted, locked and so on...
It was far cheaper to drive my Jeep to N.M. rent a
car for week and drive back than to pay for all the
shipping charges on all the separate parts.
No store in the state carried every part I wanted.
Trust me, It wasn't that many parts either.
Two stores in Phoenix nevver heard of Old Man Emu
two years ago! I regret not recording the conversations
as they deny it now. I really tried to keep it local, then
I tried state wide! I've had to drive to Phoenix for parts
because no store in Tucson stocks them. It's crazy!
I must give my good word for 4 Wheeler's supply
they have come through for the Tucson Rough Riders every
year and have bent over backwards for my own Jeeps
parts consumption.

Besides, if I had something bigger and stronger in it I would be

Of course, I'm really just jealous because I
get other vibrations long before I reach the speeds he drives at.

Some older browsers and AOL 4.0 and below don't support the file

Hey,
maybe we're all ugly, and that's the "good looking Jeeper's" way of telling
us.....

Subject: [az_vjc] I need Off set wheels for CJ7
Dose anyone know a vendor that sells custom wheels? I need to get a set that
are off set as much as possible to clear 35" tires on an 81 CJ7. The narrow
axles don't help my problem any. I purchased what was supposed to be off
set
wheels from Four Wheel Parts wholesalers, the salesman specifically said
they
were off set 1.5" from stock, but when the arrived they are the same as
stock. I could send them back but its a hassle, and I need them this
weekend.
Any help would be appreciated.

Call me a sinner, but I don't believe in the hierarchy of Jeep waves. I wave
at every jeep I see be it a TJ, YJ, or CJ. My jeep has its share of mods
(33" tires, 3" lift, fire extinguishers, hi-lift, etc.) but I don't believe
that makes me more deserving of a wave. I love my Jeep more than just about
anything, but all in all... it is still a vehicle. If some silly young girl
wants a TJ to go to the mall in, that is her right. I'll wave to her too...
at least she was smart enough to get a Jeep and not an Acura or something. I
guess this is Blasphemy, and if I need to have my wrists slapped...well,
consider them ready.

I've got the 4 cyl. in my 97 TJ.. and I've never yet been left on the
trail.. ok, so I show up last to the trail head, but that's because
I'm usually following Aaron "I can go 98mph in my TJ" Dickinson.

Rick,
That was me. You did look a little bewildered until I rolled down the
window. The salesguy thought I was some sort of freak.
No I didn't buy it. I was looking at the Camaro SS and thought I'd
check it out. I found out that the Monte Carlo SS stands for Super
Slow. The Supercharged Grand Prix which is built on the same platform
is much more fun to drive. I don't drive the TJ everyday - I drive a
gutless Fullsize Ford van that I want to replace.
Take it easy,
Scott

Since Az wheel went out of business, Randy Harrall of Driven Auto has
sourced a California outfit to get them from, custom made to order, right
down to not drilling the valve stem hole if you don't want them to. Give him
a call. Moojie may answer the phone. It's ok, he's a trained professional!
