Hi all!! Anybody know of any good camping areas on a trail or just plain nice dispersed areas to camp in?? I'm gonna take my Jeep and military trailer out and see what we (the mutts and I and ??) can go see. Probably be camping a couple of times in the next 4-6 weeks. I know of a couple of spots up near Table Mesa and on Montana Mountain Rd., but am always looking for more.

Thanks,

Shawn

I just drive until I don't see anybody anymore...

Then go an additional 20 miles! :D

Sounds like a plan. No generators, no radios, no parents yelling for kids or kids yelling at each other.

I udually camp up along the rim formy get away therapy. If you go past the usuall FR, like 300 and 99. There are quite a few that head up bnorth and keep going. I am sure you up that way, you will be able to find a good spot in the trees without any traffic.

Just a thought.. .. Good luck. Great weather anyway yo go this time of year

Sounds like another good idea. I have been to Bear Canyon Lake in the Rim Country years ago. Spent a few days there and came back with some very interesting camping stories. Further up the road should be even nicer.

Take care,

Shawn

The Four Peaks Trail is a good area - I see tents from time to time, not too many people. Can be noisy around quad trails, but good view, high elevation and reasonably near. See the Four Peaks Trail in the AZVJC trails section or the Arizona back trails book.

That is two votes for Four Peaks!! Thanks for the info Leonard. I will try to avoid the quad trail infested areas.

Down south of Oracle off the road that takes you to pepper sauce caves is pretty nice. Just a dirt road to get there but at least there are trees.

Just two of my favorites.

Bloody basin road to the Verde. From Sheeps Crossing there is enough trail there to take you back to Horseshoe dam. Fording the river is always fun. :D

203 off of 288. 288 takes you to Young, 203 is just a few miles on 288 past Roosevelt Lake and has some beautiful sceenery and some intresting places to discover. In 2 weeks I may be in this area myself.

Tread lightly, stay on the trail and enjoy the view.

I was up at Horsethief basin a few weeks ago. The campground up there, Hazlett Hollow, officialy closes Oct 1, but you can still use it. So we had the entire CG to ourselves, and the bathrooms were even open!

I second Hazlett Hollow. I was up there three weeks ago and thought it was great. It was 18 degrees in the morning, but we were ready for the cold. My group was actually the only group there. If you wand to see some pictures of the little shelters, www.tomhatch.com click on gallery and then Hazlett Hollow under Scouts.

Is there another way to get to the sheep bridge crossing from the other side of the river? I see vechicles on the other side all the time when the river is way to high to cross...anyone know how to get there? I see roads on the map, but it looks like there isn't a direct trail...
