I was almost home from the farewell CK run and got as far as this when my gears just about locked up. I am stuck here at dobson and southern in the parking lot across from MCC. If anyone has a trailer to come get me and take it to Warner and Cooper it would be hugely appreciated!

I don't have a trailer, but I will certainly offer to come help if there is anything I can do.

Do you and the family have enough water right now?

Yeah, we have my Jeep too. Stopped to grab food while we figure this out.

Wow, I know you said you'd have to add oil before you headed out, I didn't figure it was that bad! Usually Gear oil is so pungent that I can smell it like a fart in a car, and I didn't notice anything until Mike drove up the hill and into a skunk!

I just spoke with Dustin and he has a tow truck on the way. I told him my truck and trailer could be out there by 5:30 if he needs it. Sounds like we have it covered.

My garage reaks of it this morning. I didn't smell it before either.

I moved Dustin's post to low priority rescue, not sure the notification works after a move.

But not only do we have to fix his gears. . . We have to upgrade some of our tools. . . This is just one of two

That blows.
I have the parts to fix it. Yours if you want them. You'll need a gear set up. Or I know someone with a bolt in d44a 3.73.
Also we have a few 8.8's if you would like to upgrade. :)

Oooo. That's a great picture of what happens when your pinion drops!

JD has his 3.73 D30 parts left over from his axle swap if you cannot find anything Dustin.

I just may take you up on that. I need to see about maybe an upgrade in the process. Locker and sleeves.

Your vision is shortsighted. You should be thinking Dana 60. :)

Is that your d44 or d30? Just sold my d30 but I have an extra set of d44a 3.73 gears here if you need them

I have a 2x4 axle you can put in So you aren't down a vehicle while repairs are being made. Let me know if you think you want it.

Something like this? Seems like a good donor pending any sort of research.

Oops, didn't look close enough on my phone. I'm at Letzroll. I'm sure we have a few laying around and of course can install if needed.
We also have a few 60's waiting for new homes. :)

x2, this is a pretty text book example. There is good news though, if you still need to drive the Jeep around in the meantime you can probably just tighten up the nut on the pinion and drive it for a little while til you get the repairs sorted out. When this happens if you catch it in enough time amd tighten the pinion nut back up you usually don't do too much damage. Despite how bad yours looks you could probably still tighten the nut up and drive it that way for quite a while.
