Subject: Updated Toybox Off-Road Site
I wanted to let the list know that we have recently updated our web site in
both look and content. The biggest changes took place in our pricing on our
Swamper tires. In order to compete, we've lowered our Swamper tire prices and
now MATCH National Tire and Wheel's prices!! We are working hard to try to be
a local distributor for Swamper tires. We hope this is a good first step to
achieving that.
Thanks to everyone who has come our way. And thanks again to the list for the
great knowledge and backing that you have given us. You guys literally created
us!!!! Without this list, we would not have existed. Thanks to all.........

Ok, I flubbed it.
To all of those who just registered, a member profile was not created when you “joined.”
I’ve found the problem, corrected it and manually added member profiles with blank
information. So you should be able to click the members link on the left, and then
edit profile to put your info in.
Some of the other problems for those using Netscape, I changed the default script to
Vbscript so hopefully Netscape will stop looking for a Java function and look instead
for the vb function.
I also modified the view pages so they won’t puke on empty data (Invalid use of Null)

Well folks,
I’ve managed to complete the first piece of the interactive website.
Members can now add and modify their profile, add and modify
multiple jeeps. Search and view other member’s profiles and jeep
information.
To start, you’ll need to create a log in for yourself. At the link
below, enter a user name and password, since you are already
registered with e-groups; make sure the checkbox is checked.
If the user name you have chosen is already taken, you will
be prompted to enter a different user name.
Once a valid user name is chosen, you will be prompted to
enter your profile information. Click the save button before
you attempt to add a vehicle, or the information will be lost.
You can search member and jeep information by clicking the
members link at the left. A picture gallery is in the works.
Once the picture gallery is complete, you will be able to
link pictures to your vehicles. On the search and member
info pages, a single thumbnail will be randomly chosen. On
the Jeep Info page, all thumbnails associated with your jeep
will be displayed. As usual, clicking a thumbnail will open
the actual picture.
If anyone experiences problems with the website, please
e-mail me as soon as you can. Tell me where you were,
what you were trying to do, and what O/S and Browser
you are using.
Finally, here is the link:
http://www.azvjc.org/interact.asp
One final note, I use a “session” object which can issue
a cookie, if you have cookies turned off and you are experiencing
problems, you may try turning them on. Also a permanent cookie
is issued so that you don’t have to log in each time you visit the
website.
Well that’s it I think, if anyone has any questions, give me a holler,

Blair,
If you can't find a replacement like the original, go to Ace Hardware
and get a long enough grade 5 bolt with a lock-nut to put in the QD. The
grade 5 should be able to handle the possible shearing forces caused by the
QD trying to disconnect and with a plastic-filled lock-nut it won't come off
till you are ready. You will need to unbolt it rather than just pulling a
pin but that inconvenience should be weighed against the cost of new QD's.
By the way, have you contacted the manufacturer for a replacement?, I find
myself breaking off the zerk fittings on my greasable shakles regularly so I
get replacements from Curry with just a quick phone call.

Subject: Sat. 9/30 P4W trip report (long)
AZVJC Trip Report, Tin Can Alley and surroundings, Saturday, Sept. 30.
The participating Jeeps met up at 8 a.m. at the trailhead to air down.
Attending were Stu Olson (TJ), Larry Maggio (TJ), Mike (from
JeepsUnlimited, TJ), Scott (from JU, YJ), me (Dion, YJ) and John (CJ). We
aired down and were ready to hit the trail around 8:30.
We were doing some exploring in the P4W area northwest of Phoenix, near
Lake Pleasant. This is an area we wheel fairly often, so we were searching
for some new trails. Unfortunately, much of this area is now private land
and No Trespassing signs have been rearing their ugly heads in the last
several weeks, making popular obstacles like Carburetor Hill, Wishbone,
Jack's Rock and others off-limits. It's sad to see such beautiful and
well-maintained wheeling spots sold off; it doesn't bode well for the
future of our hobby.
Anyway, we started out hitting the Three-Line Obstacle rock garden (so
named, by me, because there are three distinct lines to clear it, with
three different degrees of difficulty). After playing around there for half
an hour or so, we headed out in search of new terrain. Everyone made it
through pretty handily. Larry made the middle part look easy and Stu got
some nice hangtime in the center.
As usual, Stu was leading the pack. He has a nicely built rig and very good
GPS skills. With Stu leading, you know you're not going to get lost (in
fact, you rarely even make a wrong turn. In all the months wheeling with
him, I can count the number of wrong turns on the fingers of one hand).
We proceeded generally northward, following a wash that showed up as a Jeep
track on the topo map. Eventually we discovered what the 20-year-old topos
don't show: what appeared to once be a neat, difficult waterfall obstacle,
has been dug out (possibly by a rancher) into a watering hole. Since none
of us had the desire to see if our Jeeps float, we turned back.
We backtracked a bit and decided to run the Tin Can Alley trail backwards.
We've run this trail regularly, but it's much different backwards. It's not
terribly difficult, probably a 3.0 or so, but there are a lot of steep,
slippery moguls. Scott had a little off-camber traction issue at first (in
fact, he was fairly close to tipping over at one point) in his stock YJ,
but after a quick tug, made the rest look easy.
Since it was getting hot and TCA is a fairly long run, Stu led us through a
side trail we hadn't done before. Turns out, it cuts at least an hour off
the run, putting us back near the normal beginning of the run and right to
the final
big obstacle we wanted to tackle: the Squeeze.
This obstacle has taken its toll in body damage over the months. Last time
out, I lost my Sahara steps (since replaced with angle iron) here. As this
is a fairly large rock garden, we experimented with several different lines
and generally played around a bit. I tried the hardest far left line and
made it all the through until the last obstacle. The break-over angle on
this rock face is so steep, I kept catching my oil pan and exhaust on the
lip when walking my front wheels over. I eventually had to back off so as
not to incur any carnage.
Larry ran it backward and had a nice pucker factor when his TJ got pretty
tippy over the last rock face descent. John had the photo op of the day,
posed on top of the rocks, running the squeeze backward.
Overall, we had a great time and no one suffered any major carnage, aside
from the typical rock rash and AZ pinstriping. Thanks for reading and here

Dan,
If your TJ already has A/C on it, the chances of you wanting to slip a York
rotary compressor under the hood is probably not very good. If you don't
have A/C, then I would suggest going that route. It will bolt up in the
same spot as a factory A/C would and it supplies a lot of air. Get more
details at: http://www.onboardair.com
After that, I would say you have a couple of good choices and one not so
good.
#1. You could get a good quality electric compressor. The Quick Air 2
provides the highest air flow for anything in the $250 range (your college
budget may not like those $$). I have the QA2 specs and install details on
my web page at: http://www.stu-offroad.com
#2. Get yourself a 10 lb. CO2 bottle. I don't know the exact price, but
you will have to pay for a regulator and gauge and hose....probably in the
$150 ~$200 range. (anyone have one of these setups?) They can be refilled
at any welding supply store for around the $10 mark
Last but not least is the cig lighter compressors. I have seen more of
these burn up after a trail run than I have seen work. A couple of folks
seem to have found a brand or two that have survived, but they all suffer
from very low air flow. However, the price is much less than the other
alternatives. <~$50
Which ever way you go, you will find it nice to be able to air up at the end
of the trail, without needing to find a gas station.
Good luck......Stu

I dont have them on my XJ, I use Rubicon Express' Adj. lower control arms. I
assume you are wanting to use the drop down bracket instead of a longer arm?
Depending on your style of wheelin', they may not be the best choice. With
4.5" lift on my 91 XJ, I still bang the LCA brackets quite often. With the
drop down brackets, the mount is lowered somewhere around 2-2.5". I have
heard
the drop down brackets are easy to get hung up on. For mostly street/light
trail use, they would work fine to save a bit of money when lifting your XJ.

Any company tries to order a break qty of items in order to make free
freight from the manufacturer/distributor. When a company has to special
order, they lose their profit if they don't charge freight. There has
been times when mail order has been more economical than buying local. I
always try to support my local shops first before resorting to mail
order, as their knowledge and advice is worth money in itself.

Exactly. Mail order is not exactly convenient. You also miss out on
chatting with the guys in the store. If you know exactly what you want
and mail order is the cheapest/best way to get it then go mail order.
Just like spark plugs--I buy those at Checker, Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc.
as they are less expensive. When it comes to a critical component, like a
starter or alt, I go to Napa.

No, and it isn't theirs either. No store can have every item in stock
every time--you would be paying exorbitant prices if that were the case.
They try to have the A items and many of the B items with a few C items.
If they are out of an item you want, and are not in a hurry, ask them if
they can add it to their next stock order so you can avoid freight. Most
will do this if you are patient.
> I'm in strong favor of supporting local shops, but not if

Most shop salesman forget to mention "plus freight" when quoting prices.
Many shops have lost money by ordering special and forgetting to charge
the customer freight. This results in no profit, and many times an actual
loss of profit. Poor profit management results in OOB. Think about Cepek.
In the end, support your local shops. They support us, if you don't
believe that, attend the Jamboree this month. At least, be a spectator at
the raffle, and note how many local shops donate items for the good of
off-roading. Proceeds from this raffle support the ASA4WD Clubs, who work
hard to keep the land we 'wheel on open. Give them first opportunity for
your money before taking it out of AZ. Keep the money in our local
economy so we all benefit.
Enough for now,

Good luck......Stu

and I said I still wanted it if they could get it here by Friday. They
told her they couldn't guarantee Friday but would try and if not it
would be in Monday for sure. Well it didn't come in Friday. We both
called today and its still not in. They say maybe tomorrow they can't
tell for sure. I could have had it mail order for the same price by

would have come to my door. If you use four wheelers supply make sure
you ask if there will be shipping charges. Make sure you don't need your

Anyone of you cherokee owners have control arm drop down brackets on your
rig. And if you have a pic's of it, could you send it to me. I'd like to see
what they look like installed. Thanks.

Offroad Unlimited charges shipping on stuff they don't have in stock
as well. I don't understand this tactic. What is the point of going
to an off-road shop if they're going to charge you shipping? Chances
are you can get it cheaper, with shipping, from mail order. If you
know what you want there's no gain. If you need advice, that's why
they are there. It just doesn't make sense though. It isn't my
fault they happened to be out of stock on that item when I needed
it. I'm in strong favor of supporting local shops, but not if
they're going to charge me like I mail ordered it.

OK, wait, here are some answers to supply chain problems:

Enough for now,
Lisa

This is the way I have done business with them. If they don't have the part
in stock (and they do regularly stock it) they offer me special order or
will call me when it arrives.

My wife is interested in a security device for her TJ. The "Club" we used on
an XJ doesn't provide much security due to the openness of the vehicle.
Anybody have experience with other security devices? Recommendations?

Buy a ZJ and you'll never shop at a 4x4 store again. There just isn't enough
aftermarket stuff available. Everything ends up being custom made! And it
costs a heck of a lot more!
