If you are heading into Sedona from I-17 it is on the right bfire the
Y. There is a sign (as the road bends right) that says Broken Arrow
and has an arrow. Turn right there and follow that road all the way
back. You know you are there by the park entrance on the right and
the large (little) shelf at the very beginning of the trail. Good
luck, if you plan on going in the next couple of weeks (I am down

Broken Arrow is a fun and very scenic trail located in Sedona, AZ. The turn
is a few miles south of the "Y" in Sedona. Yes, the sign does have a broken
arrow on it. I believe the trail is rated a 3.0. It's O.K. for stockers, but
for those who just have to flex it up, there are some fun cracks to play in,
and one gnarly hillclimb (Devil's Staircase, going up). It's supposed to be
one way going down, but who can resist turning around and climbing it? Not
me :-) About half the trail is dirt and rock, the other half is on the "red
rock" that surrounds Sedona. It takes 2-4 hours, depending on how often you
stop to stare at the beautiful scenery. This is a "Pink Jeep Tour" trail,
and they are everywhere. This is a great trail for just about anyone.

Subject: Wheels for sale - update
I think I priced these too high so I'm chopping the price.
I have five 15x8 factory aluminum wheels for sale. They are the 5 hole
wheels with 5.5" backspacing. Bolt pattern is 5 on 4.5.
I'm asking $125 for all 5 wheels.
They have many scratches around the edge lip of the wheels but the rest of
the wheel looks fine. 2 of them do not have center caps anymore since the
center holes were enlarged for the Warn manual hub conversion.
I had swiitched to the factory 5 spoke aluminum wheels but am rethinking
that and will be buying some AR767 steel wheels from Discount Tire. The 5
spokers will be for sale when I get together the money for the AR767s

The brother of a friend of mine has a '87 XJ that was rear ended. The
unibody is not repairable, but the motor, tranny (auto), t-case (231), and
drive line are in excellent condition. It has a stock D44 rear, w/ a full
Detroit. Gears are 3.56, and it has new 31" BFG AT's, w/ new rims. Also, the
interior is reported to be in excellent shape. The XJ has around 90k miles
on it.
Before you ask, he is not interested in selling the D44 alone. He's looking
to sell the whole thing. Not sure what the asking price is, but if there's
interest, I'll find out, or put you in touch with him.

Head west on the Sedona exit of I-17. Keep heading though some town traffic
past Bell Rock and past the Poco Diablo resort. Look for the sign to Broken
Arrow Estates on Morgan Rd. It will be on your right hand side. Morgan road
is
paved for a half-mile and will then turn to dirt .... just a bit further up
is where the
trail begins. There is a directional flow to the trail so be aware of the
arrows that
point this out.
In my opinion, Broken Arrow is the best trail in the state for someone with
little or
no experience and/or miminal to no modifications. On the otherhand there is
enough optional stuff to keep the interest of the more skilled/modified. The
scenery is unsurpassed in beauty.
I'd like to go up there again soon. Anyone interested?

Subject: Chiva Falls & Italian Trap run report
I was met at the ABCO by Gene Layne and Jason DeVincentis, we left for the trail head a little after 8:00 AM. We had aired down at the store so were able to wheel as soon as we got to the trail head. The run was smooth and quick with only three vehicles, we didnt run into any problems until we got to a 5+ cattleguard which required Gene to use the stacked rocks and engage his front locker, (this thing is really rutted out). The Jeeps kept going without incident to the Falls where we relaxed for a few minutes and almost flipped Jasons YJ as we pulled out, he had parked on a fairly steep off-camber area of the trail.
Leaving the Falls, we headed out the way we came to go out through Italian Trap, again, it was a smooth and uneventful section of trail. At the Trap all three Jeeps took on the main obstacle and successfully negotiated it, I wasnt quite as smooth or gentle as the other two but made it anyway. On our way out I managed to rip my passenger side rear shock lose and had to remove it on the trail with a quick hand from Gene, a short time later we noticed my drivers side shock had broken also forcing another short stop to pull it. On the road out I received a valuable lesson in the mechanics of vehicle suspension and the need for shock absorbers to keep the vehicle from bouncing all over the place after a bump. I will obviously be replacing the shocks ASAP.
We aired back up at Genes house and decided to do Monday runs when ever we could get together, if anyone is interested in joining us, get in touch and well let you know when and where.

By the way, this ride is being led as an AZ_VJC ride. It is rated a 3.0 but it is not recommended unless you have at least factory limited slip - lockers are even better. There are a number of steep hills with lots of loose sand making them tough going if there hasn't been rain. However, having said that, all are welcome.

Subject: 4-Wheelers Finally Corrects Their Mistake
For those of you who don't know the story already, Rick Hall had his gear
swap done at 4-Wheelers Supply and when they gave him back his old 4.10
gears, they mismatched the front pinion and ring gear with a 4.10 ring gear
and a 3.73 pinion. I got these gears from Rick to use the front set in my
TJ to replace my 3.73. When my diff was torn apart, it was realized that
the pinion was the wrong one. Dealing with 4-Wheeler Supply on Saturday
seemed useless as they claimed it was not their fault and that Rick should
have checked his gears to make sure they were the right ones. How you would
know this I have no idea since it does not say on the gears themselves what
ratio they are. Anyway, after talking with the manager Cherry about 5 times
and having her tell me she would knock 20% off a new gear set since I was
put out I threatened to take legal action which prompted her to offer me 30%
off the gear set and a free install. Since my diff was already torn apart
and I would have to pay to close it up anyway I wanted the install charge
($250) applied to the cost of the gear set so that I could take it back to
Desert Fab to complete my install. She said this would not be possible
until Monday when she could get authorization from a superior. Monday
(today) was just as frustrating as Saturday as she claimed they could find
the correct pinion and I needed to give them time to do this. After waiting
until noon I called and she informed me they found the pinion and I could
come pick it up. I told her I would be there in 30 minutes and she said she
would be waiting. It only took me 25 minutes to get there and when I asked
for her they informed me she had left 5 minutes earlier for a 1.5 hour lunch
break. She did not tell Steve the service guy where the pinion was and
after searching for 30 more minutes they did not find it so I received an
apology from Brian? and he gave me a brand new gear set at no charge. I'm
happy that they resolved the situation but I am very discouraged by how long
and how much I had to fight to get it done. It felt like I was dealing with
a Jeep service center about warranty work and because of my lift it wasn't
covered. Thanks go out to Rick for also calling them and helping me resolve
this situation. My advise, don't deal with Cherry at 4-Wheeler Supply as
she is not very capable of handling things and she pissed everybody there
off.

In 4wheeler Supply's defense, I will say that they will continue to
get my patronage to support my 3 jeep habit (addiction?). I do admit
that I don't much enjoy dealing with a few of the parts dept.
employees, but Steve and Sherry have always treated me very well and
always come across as very professional and knowledgeable.
I'm surprised you were the one that had to interface with 4wheeler
instead of the gentlemen from which you bought the gears. Seems he
should have been the one to talk to 4wheeler since he payed them for
his gear swap. I may be off track here (please correct me if I'm
wrong), but sounds like you bought your gears from a fellow jeeper
and not 4wheeler (or did you buy his gears directly from 4wheeler?).
Why did you hold them responsible instead of the person that sold you
(or gave you?) the gears?
I do understand and sympathize with you because of the trouble you
had to go through once you were 1/2 way through your install. Glad
to hear they gave you a free gear set.
Happy jeepin',
Jeff

Several interesting optionals. Deb was taking pics and spotting. She did a great job and the full width axels kicked butt.

Happy jeepin',
Jeff
