Hi ____________ (I would use your name but you didn't include it.)
Myself and a couple of friends are Jeepin' tomorrow afternoon out west of Lake Pleasant.
We will meet at State Route 74 & mile marker 11 @ 2:45 PM Sunday afternoon on the north side of SR74. This is about 8 miles west of where Castle Hot Springs Road hits the highway by the south end of Lake Pleasant. We'll be hitting the trail at 3:00. We will most likely be checking out some trails we haven't tried yet. We've done a couple of night runs out there this summer. Most of us run an average lift with 33" tires, etc. Nothing too radical in the mod department.
Hope you can make it. Drop me a response back, either way.

Mine was cracked in 2 places....just north of the weld where the 2 pipes
merge above the flange. One of the 2 pipes was cracked almost all the way
around. The second area was on an individual pipe, right where they now have
the flex joints.
As to the other question on what it sounds like...you'll know it when you
here it. Your motor will sound a little louder and deeper. If your in doubt,
just start it up and get underneath it and your be able to feel, smell, and
hear the leak.

Subject: Re: HELP - Leaning to the right
This is typical for a lifted TJ. The causes can be a bound up rear track bar
(if you have a CV drive shaft and your pinion/axle is rotated up). The more
likely culprit, however, is the natural torque of the motor over time will
place more compression on the right rear spring. The only real solution is
to look at your Jeep with your head slightly ****ed to one side...so it
looks level. OR, you can swap springs from time to time...but that's more
hassle than it's worth, IMO.

Reply to: D30 U-joint upgrades??
Hi all: First I'd like to thank the folks on the Jawbreaker run Saturday. Wow. Now that's a trail. Definitely the hardest offroading I've ever done, but it was a blast. Thanks to Chris for leading, Ken and Chris for spotting, and Tom for giving me some gear oil at the end of the trail (I'll get to that in a minute).
We had seven vehicles and everyone made it through with a minimum of carnage. The winch and tow straps did come out a couple times, but you have to expect that on this kind of trail. I'm sure Chris will do a full trail writeup and there were plenty of pictures taken. Alas, my wife just missed the shot of my 6-foot wheel-stand over a waterfall.
I managed to snap the pass. side U-joint on my 94 YJ which also took out the axle stub on that side (two-piece axle with vacuum disconnect). I managed to limp through the rest of the trail and drive it home. I've heard that any YJ Wrangler with ABS will have the larger 297 U-joints that can replace the 260s in my Jeep. Of course I'll also have to replace the outer stub as well. Can anyone confirm this? And does anyone have any? If not, I'll start the junkyard search tomorrow. TIA.

Jeff,
I know that Pep Boys carries either the Durabak or Herculiner brand.
Although I have not used either, there is a lot of discussion about both of
them on one of the NG forums I frequent and either one is considered good.
Preferences often come down to which one can be found on sale.
If you are looking for something durable and strong, don't got with
Dupli-Color. No one of the the previously referenced forum likes
it.....they say it chips real easy if you drop a wrench or jack handle on
it.

Here are some photos of yesterdays club run at the Broken Arrow trail in Sedona. As you can see, there was a very limited turnout. Just 2 Jeeps, me and the family, and Randy Davis. Kevin, sorry to hear about your Jeep. I hope you get it running soon. At least you kept your roofrack on :-) It was a beautiful day, and we had a great time flexin it up on the rocks. On the way home, we took a little detour down the gas pipeline trail from Black Canyon to Table Mesa. It was our second time through there in 24 hours (thanks Roger for the Fri. night run). All it took was a hammer and a drift to beat out the old one. The new one went
in pretty easily with a regular bench vise. Make sure you spend a little time
cleaning out the axle tubes before putting the eaxle shaft back in. I used a
peice of clothes hanger with a curve in one end to pull the dirt and stuff out.
You don't want to push the dirt into the differential housing.
The old u-joints on the ZJ had close to 100k miles on it and the needle bearings
were pretty dry. I plan on relubing them and carrying them as spares in case
they are needed on the trail. They won't be a permanent fix, but at least
they'll get someone off the trail and home. BTW: 93 ZJs w/ABS use NAPA P/N 371
u-joints on the front axle.

Did you keep your old one? They can be repaired by someone who knows how to weld

Support slips for growth initiatives
Kathleen Ingley
The Arizona Republic
Sep. 24, 2000
Support has slipped for two of the state's hottest ballot measures,
which
would put new curbs on growth and protect some state trust land,
according
to an Arizona Republic poll.
Propositions 202 and 100 would still pass overwhelmingly, though, if the
election were held today.
Six of 10 Arizonans surveyed are in favor of the main points of
Proposition
202, the Citizens Growth Management Initiative. That's a notch below
earlier
polls, which put support levels around 70 percent.
Proposition 202 would require local governments to set growth
boundaries,
based on 10-year population forecasts, and to charge developers the full
cost of all the new city services for their projects.
Voters like Mike Will, who lives in north Phoenix, see the initiative as
a
welcome fence against the relentless march of subdivisions into wildlife
habitat.
"I don't want to see Phoenix built out like San Diego is," he said.
Peoria resident Dorothy Skeen, though, lines up firmly on the "no" side.
"I'm a Realtor and my husband is in construction," she explained. "It's

matter of economics. Without expansion, where are we going to go?"
Lila Schwartz, who chairs the pro-Proposition 202 Citizens for Growth
Management, blamed slipping support on a recent barrage of TV and radio
ads
from opponents with "a huge amount of money."
Real estate and construction interests are leading the drive to defeat
Proposition 202, while the Sierra Club and the Grand Canyon Trust are
the
biggest contributors in a coalition of environmental and civic groups
backing the measure.
The Republic's survey says 62 percent of registered voters favor the
terms
of Proposition 202, while 23 percent are opposed and 15 percent are
undecided.
Opponents take an upbeat view, seeing the glass as nearly one-quarter
full -
especially since it's an improvement from a poll two months ago showing
just
17 percent opposed.
"If the voters are presented with the negative consequences of this
issue,
they will vote against it," said Spencer Kamps of Arizonans for
Responsible
Planning, the umbrella group fighting Proposition 202.
He contends Proposition 202 would sink the Arizona economy, boost home
prices and create a legal mess, because it would allow anyone to sue to
enforce the law.
Schwartz, on the other hand, argues that once voters are better
informed,
"we can counter the slide in the polls."
She maintains that better growth management would spur the economy, and
she
says lawsuits would be limited to affected parties.
Support is stronger for Proposition 100, a constitutional amendment that
would protect up to 3 percent of trust land - about 270,000 acres - from
development. This measure also would require Congress to change the
federal
law that made Arizona a state in 1912.
Among those surveyed, 67 percent favor Proposition 100, while 20 percent
oppose it and 13 percent are undecided.
The level of support, although down from 73 percent two months ago, is
"terrific," said Jay Heiler, spokesman for the pro-Proposition 100
campaign.
A legal challenge to Proposition 100 kept supporters' strategy on ice
for a
month. But soon, Heiler said, "there will be a full-fledged campaign
visible
to all residents of the state." One theme will be the need to update
Arizona's approach to state trust land.
Those opposing Proposition 100 insist they aren't discouraged by the
latest
poll.
"Without the whole picture, it's not surprising, because preservation is
a
really popular issue in Arizona," said Lori Faeth of The Nature
Conservancy.
Many conservation groups oppose Proposition 100 because of its 3 percent
limit on land to be protected. They want voters to focus on the 97
percent
that wouldn't be covered.
"People will vote no, because it's bad for Arizona," Faeth said.
The statewide telephone poll of 602 registered voters, conducted Sept.
14-18, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Demographic breakdowns, which have a higher margin of error, show
support
for both propositions was especially high in Pima County.
Proposition 202, the growth-management initiative, drew relatively less
support from registered Republicans.
Proposition 100, the amendment on trust land, had a strong showing among
those 18-34 years old.

Drop me a response back, either way.

the flex joints.
As to the other question on what it sounds like...you'll know it when you
here it. Your motor will sound a little louder and deeper. If your in doubt,
just start it up and get underneath it and your be able to feel, smell, and
hear the leak.

Subject: LU - AZ Prop 100 & 202
"It's
a
matter of economics.
