I am planning on going to this I will pick up a registration form but my
question is do we all want to camp in the same area? It would be nice to get
a chance to meet everyone that way. If someone is going out early and knows
the area we could set up directions for everyone to follow. I know that many
members are involved with other clubs and will camp in that clubs area but
many like myself are only members of AZVJC. Any ideas?

I refuse to belong to any group that would have me as a member!

Anyone interested in running the Power Line Trail next weekend? Power
Line is NE of Superior and should be a little cooler than Valley. The
trail is 3.0-3.5, very rocky and very scenic. The toughest spot on the
trail has a relatively easy alternate. I haven't been out there since
last October so I don't know what shape the trail is in.

Meet at the FJ Texaco at 7:30am, Sept 10, 2000.
CB Channel 4
The trail has taken about 6 hours to drive in the past, including play
time.
Bring water, lunch, sunscreen, tools, etc. You never know what's going
to happen

Hint: Don't camp too close to the main road, the registration trailer, or the
camp fire. The wind generally blows from the SW in the evening and through the
night, so the best place to be is SW of the main camp. Also, try to find a spot
that's a dead end or 'circle your wagons' for safety. We had a couple of drunken
yahoos drive through our camp last year and almost hit a few tents.

This isn't a Jeep story. It's another eco-terrorist story. I kind of
wonder if the eco-terrorists would compensate the local community if
they could successfully shut down the event? I don't think so!

>From Deseret News:

Activists raise a fuss over ATV event
They say Forest Service issued the permit too quietly

By Donna M. Kemp Deseret News staff writer

Come September, the Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree will be raising a
ruckus on the
Fishlake National Forest in central Utah, just as it has every year since
1993.
Now environmentalists are raising a ruckus of their own, saying the
U.S. Forest
Service quietly issued the permit without saying anything to those who might
oppose the
jamboree.
"Our primary concern is (the U.S. Forest Service) willingly excluded a
significant part
of the public," said Craig Axford, program director for Utah Environmental
Congress.
"All members of the public should be involved when the Forest Service
is considering
this kind of event," he added.
The jamboree will allow a total of 800 ATVs on existing trails, but no
more than 50
riders are allowed on any one trail at a time. The event, scheduled Sept.
18-23, brings in
more than $1 million to the local economy.
Environmentalists say ATV activities, especially those of this
magnitude, have
repeatedly been shown to cause considerable harm to the environment.
Max Reid, recreation officer for the Fishlake National Forest, said the
event will
primarily take place on the Paiute Trail and portions of the Great Western
Trail, which are
already open to motorized use.
"We feel that because the system is already in place there is not much
of an
environmental impact," he said, adding the ATV trails were established in
the 1980s and
have been maintained since.
Liz Thomas with the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance is concerned
whether the
trails have been formally designated as ATV trails or have simply become ATV
trails
through repeated travel on existing roads.
"We want to make sure that all trails they are riding on are designated
(open to
ATVs)," Thomas said.
Reid said the Forest Service was unaware that the Utah Environmental
Congress or
SUWA were interested in the issue, and he promised to include them in future
discussions.
Members of the local community and local law enforcement in 17
different
communities in Beaver, Millard, Sevier and Piute counties were involved in
the decision.
"There were no concerns," Reid said.
"Given that the only contacts made by the Forest Service were with
people, groups or
local governments that stood to benefit from this event, it should come as
no surprise that
no major issues or concerns were identified," Axford said in a letter to
Regional Forester
Jack Blackwell.

From Advance Adapters....

I have their bellhousing that allows you to bolt up a T18/T19 to a SB Chevy.

I also have the adapter from a Ford T18/T19/NP435 to a Dana300/AtlasII( and
I think it even fits a NP231).

Both parts are probably used with numerous other applications.

Get me a quote and I will beat it by 20%. These parts have never been used.
I wont seperate the two.

I also have a professionally rebuilt T19 (same as T18 but fully sychro'd).
This tranny has never been installed and is essentially brand new. Will last
a lifetime in a Jeep. Make me a reasonable offer.

I was running 35x12.50's on 15x8 with 3.75" of backspacing. I am much happier since switching to 15x10's with 4" of backspacing. Its much more stable onroad and offroad with the slightly wider track (3.5"). I've had no problems when aired down to 10 psi with the 15x10 wheels.

Do you think a rim bigger than 15" would be better on the street?

BTW, You will definitley want to add a 1" body lift AND extended bumpstops up front or a 2" bodylift so those 35's have plenty of room with the RE 4.5" lift. Your front fenders will thank you :) Joe W and myself have had some damage done to the front fenders with only the 1" body lift.

Flat Tire Canyon is a trail that I have started four times and have been
turned back by breakdowns and time constraints. Each time I have gone
approx 1/4-mile further. I have never made it to the end. I was the
trip leader for this trail on Sunday at the Jamboree 2 years ago and
most of the participants gave up and turned around. I don't blame them.

Flat Tire Canyon is 3.0-3.5 trail. It is a dead end so you have to come
back out the same way. I hear that there is a loop trail back there. It
shows on the 1973 Tonto National Forest map but doesn't show on the USGS
Quad (Mineral Mtn). The trail is on BLM land. The toughest obstacle is a
hill climb on the way out. Last year the hill was in pretty bad shape.
The monsoons could have made it worse. Most of the trail is in the
bottom of the canyon. There is some easy rock crawling and a few more
challenging alternates.

Location. Flat Tire Canyon Trail Starts on FR4 (Telegraph Canyon Rd).
There are two ways to get there. If you are coming from the west, take
the road that follows Ajax Wash and go by the Ajax Mine site. Take the
road that goes north from the mine. Stay on this road. It gets pretty
rough and there are some washouts. Go through the cattle guard (this
defines the boundary between BLM and the Tonto Natl Forest). Stay on the
road and eventually you will see a mine tripod high on a hill. Make a
right (south) at the Arizona Trail Marker (a Sierra Club project) which
is right below the mine tripod and stay on this trail until you drop
into the wash. Make a left in the wash and you'll see the Flat Tire
Canyon Trail. BTW: It is on the Mineral Mtn Quad. The Trail is NNE of
Martinez Canyon. The right leg of the wash actually connects with
Martinez Canyon, but it isn't driveable. If you are coming from the
east, take Mary Ave south through Superior, make a right on the road
going by the softball fields. A mile or so down the road, you'll see a
forest road marker. Go right (west) and stay on this road (Telegraph
Canyon Rd) until you see the mining tripod and Arizona Trail Marker.
It'll take you about 1.5 hours to get there. Either route is very scenic
and worth the trip.

Sorry, no GPS data. I use orienteering methods which don't require
batteries! ;-) And I never get lost -- only momentarily disoriented!

I laugh. Ha. Ha ha.

130hp 330lb-ft?

Bump up to the inline six, and get 300hp 920lb-ft.
http://www.cummins.com/na/pages/en/products/construction/c83.cfm

Did you know that the new 1600cc 4banger Hondas (civic si) are getting
160hp _bone stock_ (no turbo/super chargers or anything) ?

(Yes, I said 1600cc inline 4 160hp bone stock.)

Pretty amazing.

Of course, the torque isn't there (111 lb-ft@7000rpm), power _starts_ at
4000RPM, peak power close to 8000RPM.
