Figured that after 2 years of wheelin I would clean [in/out] and paint my Warn 9.5ti. I took everything apart except the motor itself. Lots of pits, corrosion, rust and overall junk floating around. Somehow in my mind, most of this could have been prevented if Warn smeared some grease over everything else besides the gears. The gears were in near new condition, in spite of its use.
In looking at this I am amazed it cost as much as it does. No wonder there are so many $399 winchs on the market. I suspect that they shave some quality somewhere and most likely its in the few parts that really count, the gears. As I said, the gears show almost no wear at all. And, maybe that is why Warn has the rep it does.
I would suggest that anyone who has a winch of any brand that is two years old or better pull it apart, clean it, and grease it for the life of your winch.
