After getting going this evening after 4 days of working on the Jeep, my check engine light has come on. Anyone have any ideas why it might be coming on. We just put on a 3.5 RE lift with Adj. Arms all around, SYE and kept the stock t-case skid.

We did not rotate the speedo gear housing yet to contact the plastic gear on the TC main shaft. I suspect the computer needs a speed reading.

just run it ot auto zone. theyll scan it for FREE. I took my gf's mustang in when it came on and it turned out to be just a bad batch of gas that made the right bank run rich. theyll clear it and let you know what code it brings up.

NOW THATS FUNNY. You dont REALLY believe that some "Bad" gas would hunt out the right bank of cylinders (especially scince they are sequential injection feeding off of a non-return fuel system) and make it run rich??? Its kinda scary when auto zone uses a scanner to "tell" you what your "problem" is. NONE of them are ASE Certified, Nor do they have any idea that a scanner will "Lead" you to where the problem "might" be. Take turtle for example. Auto zone told him he had a #2 cyl misfire. So he replaced the plugs, cap rotor, injector, blah blah blah. He had a blown head gasket.

Wind-Danzer,

Check your gas cap and if you even think it was loose then disconnect your battery ground. I left my cap off for the first seventy miles of a full tank. The check engine light came on at seventy miles and would not clear even though I shut down and started again several times. Disconnecting the battery cleared it up.

I'm pretty sure that is not the case in this instance. I hadn't had the gas cap off in about a week. :D

You could still try the battery disconnect in case it was a temporary fault related to all your recent modifications. If the light comes back on you have only lost the couple minutes it takes to disconnect and reconnect your ground.

I think the mystery is solved folks... The computer needs a speedometer reading or it will turn the light on. The light should go back out after the speedo is reconnected and is it driven.

It is defiantly the speedo sensor; my check engine light is on for the same reason. Have yet to hook my electronic speed sensor up on my JB SS SYE. spoke with Jeff(Jeep Tech) and he said it will throw the light.

I just saw that SYE kit the other day...How do you like it? Why haven't you hooked up the speed sensor yet, isn't it pretty much a direct replacement? Did you get a good price on it? If so, from where?

Sorry for all the questions, but this is my next mod and I haven't had a whole lot of free time to do any hunting yet. :D

I love it, just as easy to install as a normal SYE, but 2.25" shorter. They didnt include the GM harness in my kit, some how it didnt get shipped, so they are sending me one at no cost. I got mine from offroad connection in LA, JB had a backorder over a month long when i ordered only place i could find one. Got it for 310 shipped.

I can scan all cars up to 2003 and do ABS, SRS, and drivability. Anything newer I can run generic OBD-II and still pull and clear codes. I would be willing to do this for free for anyone in the jeep club. Just give me a buzz at my shop. I know there is allot of people in the club so I hope i am not putting my foot in my mouth but we can see how it goes.
