This thread has seen enough life at this point and is getting old. Me To posts do not make a thread.

What's the compelling argument for closing that thread? Is there too much redundancy? Has the thread exceeded its right to life ... is 100 replies the limit? Should no one else be given the opportunity to reply to it with their (possibly redundant) opinion? Has it just become too boring for some to tolerate further? Are we getting so short on resources that this thread must be stopped because it threatens to impede on the space required for new threads?
It seems to me that threads should only be closed because they degenerate into virtual fist fights or etc. My opinion is it should be left open because it has not violated any rule that should result in its closer, it provides an opportunity for all to chime in on an important subject, and anyone bored with it can simply ignor it.
Remember, it will eventually die naturally anyway, no need to kill it before that. That sets a bad precedent.

Bottom line... don't reply and it goes away ! It's hard to argue if no one challenges a comment....Any interest in a training class ? Jeep 101 type of thing with more to the classroom concept..

I say leave it open and let it die naturally. Or give it a set date down the road, say a couple of weeks or month. It'l die naturally.

I think there are too many people that seem to be frightened by it's content because they either feel guilty because they go a little crazy or because they feel the need to do nothing.
Leave it open and let it die a natural death. If you don't like it, don't read or reply to it. It has done nothing to violate any rules.

Would someone in favor of closing the thread like to present an argument?

I agree with Jamie....there is no need to close it just because it has so many replies. The pissing match is done, and curbed.
Mods need to make sure there is no pi$$ing matches going on, just opinions. I honestly don't see the need for a poll either....
Trying to moderate peoples opinions and suggestions is just plain wrong.
If you don't want to see it anymore, don't read it!
Just my $0.02...

X3..... and I am a "Mod"
What the heck.... do people feel a need to reply and read everything that is posted here? I may have to read it to moderate the "virtual fighting" (as someone put it) but, I don't need to respond, I put in my two cents.

What's up with the quotes in here?
Mods, you guys are doing a good jog on that thread in keeping the pi$$ing match down to a minimum.
I know Chris has a personal attachement to the subject, and maybe Hackle too, but you can't let your personal feelings "moderate" what is being discussed by other members. That would be abuse of power....:D

Thanks for stating that; Mike. I too have noticed personal interest getting in the way of good judgement. Sometimes I think a few of these guys are attached at the hip.

I just wanted to see the thread closed because it is like asking Why is the sky blue?
Personally if I'm with someone on the trail that is getting stoned, what they do is their business and what I do is mine.
I do not take part in drugs, I do not feel it is something I need to have a good time, but I have never ask why do people do drugs?????
It is none of my business.
If you don't like the way people act stay away from them plain and simple.
But those are just my thoughts........

As of my vote - leave it open - it is split 50 / 50. 20 Yeas and 20 Neas.
The only reason to close it at this point would be so those that have the power of censorship can indeed demonstrate that power.

It is not about censorship it is about maybe using the webspace for something a little more about jeeps and going wheeling.
I know, people can think what ever they want about me I personally don't care.
I feel that as a subject to bring up you have to understand that this is a topic that will never come to a resolution. That is just the nature of the beast.
So when some asks the question should we close a certain thread it is not about censership it is a dead topic.
I have not even read the thread nor do I care to I'm just tired of seeing it on the board.
ohh well
I'll go away now.....and see if I can find a hip to attach to.

Why is Sycamore full of trash?
Why do the greenies wish to close the trails?
"It is none of my business."
....and don't tell me this isn't the same thing. If we all took this attitude; the trails would already be closed. This is truley sad. :(

flxy,
What happens as a new Jeeper to the area and haven't been out with many new faces, I decide to sign up for a run on the old site. I don't know said people but it is not brought up at the beginning of the run that there will be excessive drinking or pot smoking, cause normally it is not something spoken of. I being someone that doesn't like to offend people don't ask because "normal" people wouldn't act that way.
What happens if 1/2 through the trail, say at lunch someone decides to smoke a bowl while others break out the 12 packs and proceed to drink the whole thing.
Here I am, a straight edged person when out on the trails, screwed because I'm in the middle of an area with less then responsible wheelers counting on them to get me back out to civilization...
Now what happens to other new wheelers who, unbenounced to them, join a group of stoners or alcoholics?
I worry about that, because I'm someone that gives everyone a chance the first time around, I don't automatically think that this group of people will just get screwed up on the trail. I guess out here I will have to automatically think that though based on some of the responces.

In my six years with the AZVJC that scenario has never happened.

ARRRRGGG!!!!! It never ends! I propose a poll to close the poll to close the thread! I wanna go wheelin', anyone wanna argue/debate that too? I'm thinking next weekend. Woodpecker, and maybe as much as Ajax as I can, need to test my rockers some more.

It is simply this...
Based on this poll, at this point, 25 people either feel that they have something to say, or would really like to see what others have to say on the subject.
23 people wish to close the thread and avoid taking the chance of having animosity amongst the membership, or simply do not want to have to look at or read the thread anymore.
My advice is this... leave the thread open take another poll in a few days, let the 25 people that want to keep it open be able to have their voices (or words) heard. For those that do not want to see it anymore... There is always duct tape for the computer screen.
In all likelyhood, folks will say what they have to say and the thread will wither away and die.

I'm happy for you. This scenario has struck me twice so far.
Please take note that my original post said nothing about the AZVJC. My post is a universal one meant to be passed along to all OHV users. It seems that some have taken it quite personally. Hmmmm....

FlexyXJ has been kind enough to inform me that his group wheels better drunk than I do sober. It looks like my thread now has no foundation. I guess i'll take up fishing.
