Well now we know how the pyramids where built, they had JEEPS!
I never imagined how hard that was going to be. I only was there one night
and it was a big job.
We all owe Bill Mish a big thank you, without his single minded focus that
ZJ would be there next year. He spent his own money and many 32hour work
days to get it done. He fixed everyone on the trail that was there and never
complained, just worked hard, non stop.
Lots of people helped out but Bill really made it happen.

Bill - Thanks for putting this together and for putting in so much of your

previous trips had been able to cut up the ZJ into bite size pieces. Great
stuff! Thanks!

Jon,

It was good seeing you yesterday. I thought your "trash sledge" was a
pretty good idea. At first, I wasn't sure what you were doing with it since
I only saw you dragging it with nothing on it. Larry gave me in the inside
scoop that you were using it as a 4x4 powered "trash barge"! LOL!

Thanks for posting the pictures!

NO. NO. NO.

You guys are ALL more than welcome to Photograph with your camera, my Jeep
on ANY of the runs we are on together. I would share the same views as the
rest of you on this, in that I would be honored, and this activity is
completely acceptable to me. You may feel Welcome to post those pictures in
public view, on the internet, web page, mix 'em match 'em trade 'em with
your friends! Whatever you want to do with them. If you are on the run, you
were invited and have a right to them. If I am on the run, my consent to
this is implied.

I don't know how this got twisted, but it did.

I suspect, my use of "take pictures" should have been clarified to "stealing
pictures already taken by another photographer of my Jeep on a run sponsored
by a particular web site, in which you were not in attendance, off the web
site with a copyright disclaimer and without permission, to promote, or
profit your personal or professional site." This is what I'm talking about.
I believe strongly that this activity is unethical, and wrong. One thing
can be done to make it right.... OBTAIN PERMISSION!!!

If you disagree with this, there's a good chance I won't think highly of you
as a person. Not that would matter any to you if you do disagree.

I'm excluding Photopoint, or any other "AZVJC group site" in this.

We are all a pretty tight knit group, and I understand how things can get
misunderstood, especially when it is in writing, and I'm not there to
clarify in person.

Thanks to Bill and everyone involved in getting the XJ off Terminator. A job well done.

I took part in the White Tanks cleanup Saturday a.m. Mostly worked with the guys I normally run with (Stu, Larry, etc.), but it was good to meet a couple new VJCers. I'd never been to the White Tanks before and was appalled at the mess in the Dunes area. Was that place actually a dump at one time? Looked like several generations worth of trash in some spots.

Still, we did what we could and the place definitely looked better when we were done. Also got to run a couple trails that I'd never been through, which was a blast.

Finally, for those VJCers who live in Ahwatukee ... me, too. The Mexican place next to Macaroni Grill is called On the Border. Personally, my wife and I love it and eat there often. I've yet to see a VJC sticker here, but I keep looking. If you ever see a desert sand YJ Sahara with 5 inches of lift, ugly three-spoke aluminum wheels, 33-inch MT/Rs and a big, bald guy driving, that's me.

Subject: ASA4WDC Jamboree/P4W Crown King/Jim Myers

On the P4W Crown King/Jim Myers Memorial run today, I had an opportunity
to talk to Sandy McCullen about the Jamboree.

The permit has finally gone through, with the old $4 per vehicle per day
fee, and not the new $4 per person/animal per day fee. Based on my
family of five and a dog for three days, the difference would be $12 vs.
$72. This fee one reason P4W Roundup, a 7 day event, was cancelled. It
really is great that Sandy managed to get the old fee for Jamboree.

This was not pretty, and another State agency, RAC, got involved. RAC
consists of 15 members appointed by Gov. Hull and Bruce Babbit. RAC
agreed with ASA4WDC and got the permit pushed through with the old fees.

Sandy mentioned that she would like to see the Florence Junction area
returned to the PHX office, especially seeing as that the Tucson office
doesn't even have anyone out there. She doesn't think that this will
happen though, because funding is given on a per acre basis, giving any
BLM office incentive to hold on to land whether they are in a position
to manage it properly or not.

The invitations are currently at the printers, and should go out next
week.

----------

There were 20 vehicles at the memorial service for Jim at KissMe hill.
I believe we ended up with 26 by the time we got to CK. P4W provided
lunch at the Switchback.

I believe that ASA4WDC is going to rename the Ajax Loop trail Myer's
Loop in honor of the work he has done for thew and us, and the many
years he led the trail at Jamboree.

Subject: shop recommendation

Hi all

In light of the recent thread on poor service at Jeep dealers, I wanted to
let the group know about a GOOD shop that I've dealt with. Last week Pam's
Dodge Dakota died. It would crank and had good fuel pressure and volume,
but no spark. I spent a couple of hours troubleshooting the electrical
system with a DVOM and couldn't find anything that would cause the problem.
I finally gave up and towed the Dakota to Inman and Sons Car and Truck
Repair on 7th St just south of Maryland. (Mandatory Jeep content -- I
used the strap Linda gave us as a wedding present to tow the Dakota behind
my J-10.....thanks Linda!)

I talked to the shop foreman at 6:30 the next morning and explained the
problem. I also made it clear that I only wanted a diagnosis....no work was
to be performed without my consent. Tito (the foreman) said that he
understood and informed me that a complete electrical diagnosis would cost
$80 and that they would start right away.

Tito called me back at around 2:30 that day. He said that they hadn't found
any trouble codes in the system, so they had spent over 5 hours going
through the entire ignition system checking every fuse, relay, sensor and
sending unit, as well as cleaning every connection. Everything checked out
good, but when they were finished the truck started and ran. He apologized
profusely for not being able to pinpoint where the trouble had been because
the mechanic had done all of the checking and cleaning in one session and
then tried to start the truck when he was done. Somewhere in the system
there was either a dirty connection or a sticky relay.......he recommended
that I buy a spare relay (they're all the same) and keep it in the glovebox
just in case it happens again.

He also told me that during the test drive the mechanic was concerned about
how much gas was in the tank and whether or not the gauge read correctly (it
doesn't), so he had put in $5 worth of gas........and apologized for doing
this without my consent.

The total bill for well over 6 hours of labor on the electrical system?
$80. Exactly the amount quoted to me in the morning. They did charge us $5
(no markup....just the face value of what was put in) for the gas, but I
don't mind that.........the gas burns/costs the same whether they put it in
or we do.

Overall I'm very pleased with the service provided by Inman and Sons and
would highly recommend them to anyone needing repair work.

What is the best (read: easiest) way to change motor mounts in a YJ? I
like the prybar method, but I will be doing this job solo...

I personally would like to thank all who showed up to help out.
GREAT JOB!!

Both dumpsters were about 1/2 full with trash when I pulled out at 11:30. I
personally handed out about 60 trash bags and used up quite a few my self. I
just wish more could have made it. Special thanks goes out to Tammy for
getting us the dumpsters.... This would be a great place to make an OHV area
there are many trails in the area but there is a dier need to get it cleaned
up. I personally don't want to see this are lost. Being one of the closest
residents to this area it is very important to me just like Florence
Junction is to others.. There is more to the White Tanks mountians than most
tend to notice lets keep this area open..

Agian Thanks for helping out gang...

Rick,

I have a Ramsey 8000lb winch. Never had a problem with it....
I don't use it too often. But it is a capable winch.. And a heck of alot
cheaper than a Warn....

A floor jack underneath the oil pan. Use a piece of wood to distribute the
weight on the pan. Works like a charm...at least it did for me.

"Should" be 4.10's. Do the
lift-a-tire-and-spin-it-and-count-the-drive-shaft-rotations deal. This
is the ONLY way to be absolutely positive of your ratio!

I used a floor jack, placed under the bell house with a 2x4 to spread the
load, when I did my TJ mounts. I would think the mounts should be pretty
much the same style.

I loosened both sides and then applied upward pressure with the jack.
Remove and replace one side, then do the other. I found it was handy to
have a friend since on the TJ mounts, one person tightening the nut on the
bottom while person #2 holds the bolt head on top made it much easier.
