Hats off to everyone who helped get the ZJ off of Terminator. I made an
appearance last night and found that through the efforts of everyone the
past three weeks it is possible to cut a vehicle into small pieces and drag
it out. My stock YJ was not up to Terminator, so Rick Norman and I did Raw
Deal after helping a bit on the clean up. Mike Chatfield showed me how
tippy things can get on White Line, and there was some great spotting by
Bill Mish to help a Jeep with clutch problems get out. Meeting people in
the club, cleaning up the trail, and drinking. What could be better? I
would like to have been there for the past three weeks, as this was a good
opportunity to see people earn the bragging right "Oh yeah? I did
Terminator, while dragging a ZJ behind me!" LoL Now I need some flex so I
can actually do this trail....

It is out!!
Arrived at the trailhead, with just a trailer, and met up with Blake in his
stepside GMC, and Devon in his CJ-6. We parked the truck and trailer at the
top, by all the drug out parts, and proceeded in from the back way. I
spotted them both back to the ZJ, where we came up with the plan to get the
motor and tranny in the back of the GMC. With the motor and tranny in the
back of Blake's stepside, We got the Gmc and the CJ-6 headed back out when
Bill arrived in his Blue TJ. We were relaxing a bit, and talking when Doug
B. and Mike Chatfield showed up. We watched as they came over White Line,
and through Terminator, And then we tied a Front clip half to each of their
Jeeps to drag out. I was going to wait for more people to show up, as they
all headed out. After an Hour and no one arriving, I decided to start
walking out. I caught up with everyone at the end of the trail in a big
traffic Jam. I spotted Devon out, and in the process, he bent his drag link.
We straightened it a little, then got him off the trail. This is when I met
up with Jason in his CJ-5. He and the Extra cab F-150 went back to the ZJ,
and got all the rest of the parts, Loaded them in the back of the F-150, and
came back up, as we were headed down. Greg and Keith Auble showed up, and we
were working our way back to the ZJ, when we met back up with Jason.
Jason ended up dragging the 2 fender pieces the rest of the way up the end
of the trail. Everyone helped load the ZJ parts onto the trailer, and after
a rather interesting episode of trying to straighten the spring lever on the
trailer, we got rolling to the "Parking lot" . We arrived there about 3:00
am, I think. Keith and I spent the night on the hill, and then went to Black
Canyon City for breakfast, before coming home......

VICTORIOUS!!!!!

Thanks to everyone, I know I didn't mention everyone's name, so if I forgot,
please forgive me!

Sandee,
The ZJ that was on Lower Terminator has been fully removed.
The AZVJC, in cooperation with some members from the Arizona Low Rangers,
took it out in pieces, over the last 4 Weekends on Friday nights, with last
night being the final trip in and the complete haul out of the wreckage. All
the parts are now at my house, temporarily, until I can get them to Driven
Auto. If you have another location in which you would like me to take them,
please respond ASAP, as Monday 8/28, is the day I plan on moving it to
Driven Auto. Thank You.

First off, I have a '95 wrangler with a 2.5L.
Here's the story: I was installing a stereo and did a stupid thing. There
is a pink wire that is hot, and I accidently touched it to a ground, so it
sparked. It blew a fuse, obviosly. So I replaced the fuse, and now the
stereo works, but the dash instuments don't work. Also my reverse "white"
lights don't work. I found a relay that was connected to the mess of wires
near where the instuments plug in and replaced it, but that did not work. I
pulled every fuse I could find, and they are all fine. Did I fry a wire
somewhere? Why would the wire that I sparked now work, but nothing else?
ANY help would be much appreciated.

If you took the picture you have rights to it. Don't be afraid to take your cameras. I, for one don't intend to copyright any of the photos I take on the trail. You all can swap and trade them as much as you like as long as it is not for profit. I wouldn't mind being asked if your going to post them to a site, mostly so I can check it out :)

As much as I believe in the delete key philosophy, this whole issue is a legal issue and should have been dealt with between the appropriate parties and their lawyers. A letter to the offender from the copyright owners lawyers would have been in better taste IMHO than an announcement to 300 Jeep owners.

My 2 cents.

Subject: today's WhiteTanks clean up

No one has posted anything so I guess I'll drop a few lines about today's
clean up.

I arrived a bit before 7:00 AM and I think I raised the vehicle count to 4.

About 7:10, several of us started picking up trash.

As the morning progressed, some more members showed up, some with the
family. I never counted the number of Jeeps present. If I had to guess, I
would say it peaked at maybe 15 vehicles (I could be off by few but I think
I am pretty close).

Arizona Trust Land had supplied two HUGE dumpsters. We collected enough
trash to fill one of them about 1/2 full or so...maybe a bit more. I wish
we could have filled them but that would have taken a couple of days more
than we had.

I called it quits about 10:15 or so. The sun was getting HOT, dehydration
was setting in (can a person really drink enough when working like that?),
and my back was telling me I had been bending over enough.

I joined some friends (and made a couple of new ones!) and we ran a few
trails before calling it a day.

12079 From: Len Sullivan <kermit@e...>
Date: Fri Aug 25, 2000 9:38pm
Subject: Re: today's WhiteTanks clean up

Hi all

Let me start off with a big THANK YOU to everyone who showed up today at the
White Tanks cleanup. I got to the Love's truckstop a little before 7 (must
have been right behind you on the highway, Stu), and hung around waiting to
see if anyone needed a guide in to the dune area. I'm not sure what time we
started in, but we had 7 rigs in the group when we left.

We got to the dunes area well after everyone else did 'cuz we started
picking up trash as soon as we hit Watson Rd. My truck was filled over the
bedrails before we even got to the dunes!

A special thanks goes out to the folks at the Arizona State Trust Land
department for providing the dumpsters. Stu said that they were huge, but
that's kind of an understatement. These things were big enough that we
could have parked at least two, possibly three Jeeps in each one. Stu's
group was able to fill theirs about half full -- the group we were with
got almost that much into ours. Most of you have seen how much crap gets
piled into the back of my truck during these runs, and a full truckload
barely made a dent in one of the dumpsters.

The area still needs a lot more work, but the heat started getting to
everybody and we called it quits before noon. If we did the same thing
every weekend for about 6 months we might actually make the area look nice
again. As it is, we picked up a hell of a lot of garbage and the section
beginning at the highway and ending at the dunes looks much better.

Most of the group took off to do a little wheelin' after we ran out of clean
up energy. I would have loved to go along, but two problems popped up with
my truck. First, my auxilliary electric fan quit working. That in itself
wouldn't have been a big deal if my fan shroud hadn't shaken loose and
become one with the fan ( current score Fan 7, Shroud 0 ) during one of my
runs up and down the dunes. Either one by itself wouldn't have been a trip
ender, but with them both happening within an hour of each other I decided
to call it quits for the day. Besides that, the kids were hot, hungry, and
cranky. As always, they did an excellent job of spotting and picking up
trash........another generation of responsible 'wheelers on the way.

David, Chris, and Tom also called it quits around the same time we did. Tom
headed for home ( I think ), while Dave and Chris joined us at the Burger
King for cold drinks and Jeep talk.

My rig should be back on the trail quickly. Mike Pawlowski helped me
troubleshoot the electric fan, and we traced the problem down to a fried
dashboard switch. Mike dug a new switch out of his pile o' parts and the
fan works fine now. I'll fab up a new shroud tomorrow.

Thanks again to all who helped today.

I, for one, encourage anyone to take pictures of my Jeep on the trail and post them. I usually forget my camera, and when I do remember it, I usually don't have anyone to take those action shots for me... If anyone sees pictures of my jeep posted on Photopoint and wants to put them on their own website, more power to 'em... I'd be flattered, actually.

BTW, thanks to whoever took pictures on Reno Pass and the Coves runs in July. I didn't bring my camera on either of those, and I was happy to find a number of pictures of my Jeep posted on Photopoint.

Where Bill is certainly within his rights stop unauthorized pictures of his rig I am wondering how far this goes. From now on don't bring your camera on a run. If you must either take pictures of YOUR OWN rig only or bring release forms for publication of the pictures on Photopoint. While we are at it who EXACTLY owns the copyright of the AZVJ decal. Was the right to publish a facsimile of that sticker authorized for use on personal web sites.

Wow.......

I would say, use what is yours and ask for others. Respect if you want to be respected.

There is nothing wrong to take your camera and shoot photos on the trails.

Subject: Portable Welder

I had posted earlier about a cordless portable mig welder that Harbor
Freight had on sale, and I had indicated that I'd post my impressions. Well,
mine came last week, so I charged it up and gave it a try briefly yesterday.
Works like a charm. Since it welds at 130 amps (not adjustable), wire speed
is really important, but I was very pleased with it. I welded two 1/8 inch
pieces and it worked great. At first, I had the wire speed set too slow, but
once I had that worked out - it performed very well.

The unit consists of a 24v battery, wire spool, wire drive, ground clamp,
recharger (110v), charge LED's, on/off key, speed control, 2 sets of nossles
and tips - as one portable 45 lbs unit.
HF price was $299, which to me seems like a very good deal. I had been
looking at an on board system (which certainly has some advantages), but
would have been considerably more in price. Since I was looking only for a
welder for emergency trail repair, and occasional shop work, the portable
Century unit fit my bill perfectly.

Thought some might like to know.

Happy Trails,

Doug

Len,

Sorry to hear about the fan & shroud problems. Any idea how much current
the fan pulls? Sounds like you might have exceeded the rating of the
"fried" switch. An option would be toss in a relay and let it do the heavy
work.

As always, you and your truck did a great job in helping us get those big
piles from points A, B, and C to the dumpster.

After the trail run, Elliott and myself swung back by the area and tossed
some beer cans, etc. we picked up on the trail. I double checked (I sure
you did to) to make sure they were closed up.

It was good seeing you and the kids again!

Need to get a wiring diagram and trace it back to the common point of
failure. Don't have one for a wrangler so I can't help much.
