Well, about 6 months ago Shauna and I decided it was time to retire the Blue 85 XJ 4 cyl.
We then got a Black 98 XJ and now had 3 XJ's (again 85, 93, and 98. ).

The 85 had 200,000 mi. on it so we gave it to a friend that needed local transpo. and were down to 2 Jeeps.
Well that did'nt last long :D

We decided not to get another XJ, but rather try a YJ
come-on, how many grocery getters does one family, with NO KIDS really need

The YJ we got was a two owner, Dad then Son, and the price was right (for a Wrangler)
He was asking $4,200 and took my offer of $4,000, I think its a fair deal.

I know NOTHING about Wranglers so your .02 cents would be great.

It had a tow bar, (the owner wanted to keep it) so alot of the miles are from flat towng.

Specs:
1988 4.2l 5 speed 120,000 mi
231/Dana 35
hard doors, hard top and COLD AC.
aluminum Jeep wheels and DEAD STOCK :D
No extra tops were included

Here is a few pics, it does have a bent fender and bumper but its live-able

This thing idles and runs like a dream, it dosent smoke, hesitate or have engine vibs. :) ,the steering is tight and it has a new clutch.

Well guys, what do you all think ?
I think I need to change my user name to "Double-XJ & Uno YJ" :D

Welcome to the YJ ranks:) I bought mine about 10 years ago bone stock and have been working on it since. You have a lot of room to improve on. Enjoy it! One suggestion if you have an idea of where you want to end up only do things once. If it will be a trail rig eventually do the final lift first. (do not add a 2" then a 4" then SOA) just go straight to SOA.
Jim F. BTW if you have questions just ask.

Thanks guys,
The plan is to drive it around fer a few months , then ????
Well then its on :D

Hackle, after the XJ build up I did, (30,31,32,33,35' tires/2,4.5,6" lift/lots of trimming) I now realize that I need to put ALL the Rock Protection on first. ;) , Then the lift.

Griswold, If your gonna offer, well, I'll take ya up on it. :)

I did get a good bender and a Lincoln 215. and good with it

I also picked up a 60/44 combo with rims and 35" tires :D

Rock Protection first is great. I used the lift as an example to think about where you want to end up when you start project 1.
I like the axle ideas:)

When we ran Lower-T for Joes B-day, I got lots of pics of your Jeep,
I like the way it works, and I got some good ideas on the Fab. side.

IMO, from what I had seen, 37" tires work well with the Wrangler wheel base, and 39/40" tires work well with a "streched" wheelbase.

Realisticly, I'm gonna start the build up this summer. Atleat I still have the XJ to wheel :)
Right now I just have too much stuff going on, (paint the house, some landscape work, stucco the shop, yadda, yadda, yadda :D ).

you all know the deal.

Atleast Shauna is all down for a Yellow Rock Crawler ,
She allready named it

So, Geno...now you have 2 Jeeps with bent front bumpers????? :D I Like the YJ..... Yes, XJ's are FUN, however they are DISPOSABLE. Build a Wrangler ONCE and its yours for the rest of your life. In May, I will begin the building of my 4th  XJ. This will be the LAST one.....trust me...... :D

Ya Right on,
every-one else,
dont get me wrong, I do love my XJs,
I have owned 4 of em and will always have one if Joe dosnt use em all up :p IMO, the XJ would be "THE PERFECT JEEP" if they were designed around I frame.
ya I know, put a roll bar in it. I hear it all the time.

Why do I feel like I just put my dog to sleep

She's still happy and full of life when I turn the key. :)
and she will still go where I point her to go :D

Wheel on, wheeeeee :)

Congrats on a nice rig.
My next Jeep WILL be a YJ! I think they're ideal. Simple leaf springs, a real frame, and fairly comfortable.

Welcome to the YJ Simple Life, I have a Dana 44 combo I need to put in. I see yours has a passenger side drop like I have. I have a Dana 300 transfer case to put in as well, are you going that route too? My 44's are out of a Scout the Dana 300 is out of a CJ. My big concerns are transfer case mounting, steering and drive shafts. I have the Scout drive shafts don't know whether to have them fitten to my jeep or have news ones built ( they have smaller u-joints then the YJ's.)

Naw, Turtle is right.
My front is a driver-side drop from a fullsize Ford (with welded on mounts) ;) .. Kinda tricky to see in the pic.

Pretty sweet. I'm not to keen on the pale yellow but it's a Wrangler and that means no more windows to break out in tight spots. ;)

As for wrenching, I'd love to watch and learn and if people trust me with tools, maybe help out. ;)

How the HECK did you post on 12/31/1969???

You have a time machine you aren't telling us about?

:D

If so... I want a few cars:

Ford AC Cobra (any year), and I'll pay you cash to go to the dealership for a new one.

I'll also take a Pontiac Superbird (new), a 1957 Chevrolet Convertible (new), a 1953 Corvette (new), and... after you buy all of these, all I need you to do is store them in a warehouse that I want you to purchase in Scottsdale. I'll give you cash to purchase 1,200 acres in Scottsdale (list price in 1919 on the Scottsdale farm I'm interested in is $930). Just purchase the land with the barn and store all the cars in the barn for me. When you get all of this done... let me know; I have some pre-historic dates I'm interested in if you are feeling adventurous.

Who knows, that was an odd nite....

Here ya must of missed this one too http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=7342&highlight=Mud+Springs ;)

It's such a cute little Jeep, ya just need to get that seatbelt working right. ;) Defanetly a redneck way of securing yourself into the drivers seat. :p

At least it rides well and I can't wait to see my old tires on it. :)
