There is the "Powerline Trail" that is run during the state Jamboree.
It's not quite to Globe, though. You head through Superior, through
the canyon and through the tunnel. Just on the other side of the
tunnel is a turn-off on the right. It's labeled with a sign for the
Magma Mine. The trail makes a figure 8 loop in and out. I suggest
getting someone who knows the trail to go along. It was rated a 3.5
in last year's Jamboree but a couple sections might be closer to a 4.0.

I'll second Stu's comments with one exception. If you think you'd
go with Lockrights or other easier-to-install type of lockers, and
if you think you could install the lockers yourself, then you could
pay a shop to change the gear ratio now and not incur the double
labor charges. The key to installing lockers youself is to get help
from someone who's done it before by offering free pizza and beer!
By the way, regarding that Dana 35. I have a friend with a YJ that
has 33" tires, 4.10 gears and Lockrights front and rear, and a Dana 35
rear axle. He broke a front axle and bent a rear axle on Upper Terminator.
That doesn't mean you would - you may never care to run trails like
Upper Terminator. But you do have those big-*** 35" tires. I'd definitely
consider that Super 35 kit if you intend to get into more serious rock
crawling.

Put in a rear locker in if you are going to be climbing steep loose hills. Put a front locker in for rock crawling. If you have lots of flex and don't lift tires, you don't need lockers.. I've seen situations where lockers are actually bad, causing the vehicle to move sideways. If you can afford it get the ARB's and while your at it loan me some money.

Glen,
There is a divided camp, even in this group, concerning the location of a
single locker.
Some folks state that you put it in the front because pulling the vehicle
over an obstacle is easier to do than pushing it. I won't argue that, but
in my opinion, that is only part of the story.
I say put your single locker in the rear because the bulk of the time you
need a locker is when you are going up hill, which results in a significant
weight transfer to the rear axle. Putting your locker in the axle that has
the most weight results in more umph! to the tires that can and will do the
work.
This weekend proved me right again: I was going up a steep rock section, and
you could see the weight was very much transferred to the rear axle. My
front lifted, but the Detroit in the rear kept right on pushing me up and
over. I have yet to find myself ever going up a steep hill and find that my
rear tires are lifting off the ground.
Would a locker in the front worked on this situation? Probably. Would it
have worked as well as the rear locker? No way.
When I got ready to lock my TJ, I sought out the old timers....and I don't
mean in years of age....I mean the old timers who had been doing wheelin'
for 20 or more years and that people in the valley new and respected. Not
one of them told me to lock up my front axle before I had locked the rear.
Of course, they were just sharing their opinion with me as I am with you.
I followed their advice and have not regretted it yet.
Just my thoughts......Stu

As anyone who was on teh FR42 run Saturday knows, it's time for
lockers. My TJ came with factory trac-loc. Should I just go for the
front (as Jon L. has suggested) or just suck it up. I also have a
disconnect issue and part of my "why am I in mid-air and not
climbing?" issue was because I couldn't get the other wheel down.
I'll fix the discons, but want to avoid what looks like 1500.00 in ft
and rr lockers. Fly-n-hi was talking about a front LockRite set for
like 300+ labor. Thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance.........Glen

Subject: B&R Auto and carb troubles
Hey all --
I just had some carburator work done on one of my Jeeps (to pass
emissions) and the shop did a great job. I took it to B&R Auto on
McDowell and I-17. This shop is about as professional as they come.
They are extremely knowlegeable about carbs, so if anyone needs to
have work done because of AZ emission test failure, you might want to
give them a call. Two days after I got the Jeep back from them, I
threw a belt and it started running really rough, but I thought it
might be the carb because it had similar symptoms as before. They
had me bring it back in and tuned it up for me for only a scope
charge (turns out the distributor was 50* advanced because of the
flying belt).
On a side note, I talked to them about replacing my Rochester 2bbl
carb on my 225 with something more vertical-friendly, and they're
going to build me up a Motorcraft 350 2bbl for offroading. Anyone
have good/bad experience with the Ford Motorcraft 2bbls?
Anyway, lots of local shops get bad press on this list, so I wanted
to recommend a shop for once.
Happy wheelin',
Jeff

you would need to reposition the fan shroud 1" lower on the radiator. You
should also loosen and then re-tighten the clamp on the steering shaft that
is located approximately below the master cylinder. This will relieve the
tension on the steering shaft.

Happy wheelin',
Jeff

I have a 1" body lift on a YJ with a 5-speed and ac. Don't know about the
auto and what might be involved there. As for the rest of the vehicle,
you would need to reposition the fan shroud 1" lower on the radiator. You
should also loosen and then re-tighten the clamp on the steering shaft that
is located approximately below the master cylinder. This will relieve the
tension on the steering shaft.

The preferred method of centering the fan in the fan shroud is to lower the

FYI,
The combination of a body lift and lowering the t-case will more likely
create clearance problems in the shift lever department. I know this for
