Stu posted a message on a bolt-in hydroboost kit a while back, there is no bolt-in kits for really old 4x4s like my Willys wagon. We have to figure out how to do it ourselves. Anyway, we finally got the hydroboost unit in the wagon. We wanted to go as new as possible and found a unit from a 1992 Chevy 1-ton. This one has an external reservoir. Getting it to mount on the firewall required a pretty extensive framework on the inside so that was added to the hanging pedal frame.

As you can see from the picture, the hyrdoboost with the master is a pretty long piece. It gets in the way of one of the grill support bars, but that was expected. The hanging pedal assembly has to be mounted pretty high up. There are no engine hood clearance problems.

Okay, maybe this isn't a project for the beginning do it yourselfer. Some of the parts had to be machined to fit. Buying machine tools is like owning a Jeep. It's hard to stop and it can get very expensive. :D

Do you have a pic of the connecting rod (the rod that mounts to the pedal)?
Maybe with a tape measure in view?

I added a picture of the interior frame and pedal assembly.

James, as far as your question, I'll measure it later and will let you know. I am taking a break from studying and need to get back to it.

The brake pedal assembly is from a Scout II.

James,
The connecting rod is about 4.5" and overall dimension from the stud plate to the center of the 1/2" hole is about 7.5". Here's a picture of the unit from NAPA.

I could probably make that work on my CJ. I might have to build a spacer like you did, but I think it would work.

Thanks, very cool.

Ouch.... I just saw the price of a reman. booster $187 +$70 core and that is w/o the MC (add another $50+). Where did you get the core?

I was hoping to have the time to locate a core, but that didn't happen. We bought one without a core instead. That price was figured into the wagon project budget so it wasn't a surprise. Our goal is to get the braking system, steering, and throttle in place by the end of the year. The throttle is complete.

I think we paid a little less for this part. I always ask for a discounted price. Sometimes I get one. :)

Linda, You need to dump that injection pump and put a "P" pump on it.....:) heh heh heh ....Looks good though...how are the brakes gonna work with the wood blocks there???? They should be under the throttle for a "rev" limiter... :D

I wish! Right now I'm a poor college student. Maybe later.
