Ok so im 99.9% sure my gf is getting me new black steelies for xmas which means my aluminum wheels will get to go. I was planning on selling them last year but didnt get the new wheels to replace them. Im thinkin i can get 250+ for them. So im thinking of getting a lunchbox locker for the rear. Eventually i want a full locker in the front so i dont want to get a lunchbox type first then just upgrade it again.
My choices for lockers would be the lockrite and the powertrax no slip or an aussie...Im leaning lockright.... anyone else have any good suggestions
I have a 4cyl on 33s and im very cautious with the skinny one so please no lectures on not locking the rear. Im getting a set of spare axles and ujoints to take with me so ill be prepared. And I know my limits as to what i should and shouldnt go up or down.

It sounds like you already have your mind made up.
I run a LockRite up front and a Detroit in the rear. I have had no problems with either. My Jeep is a DD and I have one regret.....as bulletproof as the Detroits are; i'd like to have selectable lockers in both for long drives. I like the simplistic aproach of the OX locker. The downside of dealing with OX is that you have to purchase them through 4 Wheel Parts; if I remember correctly. I would not want to rely on them for warranty and such.

I have had my lockrite in the front for 4 years, and have never had a problem with it. My brother has one in the rear of his XJ for 3 years now, and you can't even tell it is in there. And he is not easy on the skinny one.

Hmmm,
A full locker ????
I'm running on 4 years with the Lock-Rite in my 30,
And 2 years with the No-Slip and 29 spline 8.25. NO PROBS YET.
And,
When I TICKLE that throttle,
she is FULLY LOCKED,
No Bout a Dout IT :D
What do you mean when you say "full locker"??
something that replaces the carrier ?
Trust me,
the two that I'm running are not "limited slip" when torque is applied they do fully lock ;)

yeah i was meaning something that replaced the whole carrier but since my post ive actually been doing a lot of reading on people putting the lockrite in the d30 and its really common and bery few complaints. Im starting to wonder if i might just do that and wait on the rear completely. oh the choices.... Ive been in a few situations where i was doing a climb and the front started slippin and forced me to choose a diff line so this might be something worth getting done and over with. Whatcha think?

I put a lockright in my 30 front and left the rear open. First trip front climbed up a step, open rear spun one wheel until front pulled it to a place it could get traction.....
BANG
spider gear pieces everywhere
luckily I had a 44 rear (one piece axles)
ruined weekend, but limped out with excuse to buy lockright for rear
that was 7 years ago, havent broken anything (running 35's for last year) since
lock both or good posi in other axle;
just my humble opinion/experience
by the way, CJ2A (sentimental toy) 4cyl 5.38's 32" MudTerrains, lockright in rear; CJ7: V8, 35's, lockright front and rear; building commando: locker in rear, lockright in front; "building" XJ limited (making a "sleeper" family day Jeep): lockright rear, detroit trac loc front (planned to put my 4.10 locker axle in rear, but I found my loc right wouldn't match: wrong ratio; can't afford new loc right (need posi in front because of Full time 4wd) and gears), Grand Wagoneer+J10+ZJ open for now.

If you are only going to run one locker put it in the rear. when going up hill wheght transfers to the rear wheels, better traction, and off of front wheels, less traction. when going down hill gravity helps out...

True :)
But when its time to do some crawlin around on the rocks,
Your gonna wish that locker was in the front ;)

Yeah, on the rocks you're going to want that front locker to pull you up over an obstacle. If only doing one. I would do the front.

are you running/have you run locker in front only?
evidently (so I have been told) what I did to mine is all to common for front only. That was my one and only experience with front only. on other Jeeps I have run rear only and, although I didnt get to a lot of places I could have (possibly), I broke NOTHING

I ran many trails with a LockRite in the front and the factory TracLock in the rear and broke nothing. This was with 33" then stepped up to 35" tires with a 5-speed no less. One of the first harder trails was Lower Terminator with the RockRats and I took no bypasses whatsoever. The front locker made a drastic improvement. By the way; I also ran 6 trails at Moab with this setup including Pritchett Canyon, Golden Spike,The Pickle,Moab Rim,Behind The Rocks and one other I can't recall.
Then again; I currently continue to run 37's on a Dana 30 with Superior shafts and 760's, which I was told couldn't be done. ;)
