Any difference b/w a D 30 knuckle on a YJ vs. TJ?

No. To verify, I called the dealership and asked for part numbers off a 1989 Wrangler, and a 01 Wrangler. They were the same.

INCORRECT. There ARE 2 different knuckles for the 2 Jeeps. I believe that the 87-90 YJ knuckles use the 2 bolts that hold the caliper to the BRACKET that bolts onto the knuckle. 91+ just have the 2 bolts for the caliper that bolt to the knuckle WITHOUT the bracket. The dealership has superceeded the old type, but there are TONS of them in junk yards, and even one in my shop.

Why would the dealer tell me they were the same part number?

My guess would be a superceeded part #....Jeep/DC is good for that...just look at all of the part #'s that have letters behind them....:)
