It seems Mike's last official VJC run was one of my first (Martinez Canyon 11/28/03). Try as I might, I can't recall making his aquaintance, although I'm almost sure I did as I try to introduce myself to everyone new when I attend a run.

Even so, I'm sure he was a great guy and an asset to our group (how many 17 yr olds have the wisdom to belong to a group like ours as opposed to those who simply go out and cause damage to our trails). As I recall everyone in attendance was very friendly and cordial and I'm certain Mike was no different.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Geez, so young.

Maybe on a future large run someone could make a sign that says "In memory of Roman Mike Reyes, Jeep driver/AZVJC Member". Maybe send a picture to his family to let them know others are remembering him, too. I'd even suggest we have a page on the website dedicated to AZVJC members who have gone on ahead. Happy to volunteer myself to do it if someone else doesn't step up.

I don't think I've ever met Mike but I think it's important we remember those in our Jeep community. I don't think anyone wants to be forgotten.

Good idea, Bill.

Our virtual club in Oregon lost one if it's founding members last year. He also was into geocaching and had placed a cache atop one of his favorite ridges in the Coast Range. We all pitched in and had a benchmark engraved and with the Oregon Department of Forestry's permissions, monumented it with a small ceremony and then spread his ashes there.

If anyone knows if Mike had a favorite spot or trail, we might do something similar for him. I can certainly donate a few dollars.

I am trying to remember If I had ever met him.....I see so many People on a daily basis (both on trail and off) That I sometimes never know their name!!! I can tell you that I never forget a face or a Jeep for that matter though...Kinda funny note, I was so hot and sweaty after work today, that when I was done washing up, I walked right by Dan Tracy. As I walked by him I thought...."he has a Yellow TJ, but where do I know him from??" Sorry dan, My bad. I owe ya a beer.... :D Does anyone have a picture of either him or his jeep??? I am sure there are other members like me out there.....:)

I called the contact listed, but received no return phone call... I imagine that they are pretty busy so I didn't want to be a pain in the butt.
If/When I get a return call... I'll post the information. If anyone else hears anything, please post it up.

Did anyone from the group attend the funeral? If so... are there any details?

I never did receive a call back regarding anything the group could do to help out.... but I did see that there is a car wash going on. I may try to go to the car wash tomorrow.

Roman was involved in an ATV accident in Mexico. My wife and I attended the wake and mass friday and the attendance was overwhelming. Roman had a lot of friends and loved ones. People placed tools and pictures of him and his Jeep in the casket so he can continue to enjoy his hobby. I posted the carwash and intend to take our vehicles.
