Thanks, Rick, for leading last nights run/Jamboree. Did anyone ever get a final count on rigs? Had to be close to 30-40 out there. That was my first time on FR-42 and I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to run it in the daylight sometime.

A few of us headed down Spare Tire Canyon to the beach. It was fun adding a few boulders into the mix along with all the twisty/off camber stuff FR-42 offers.

Looking forward to any pics which might get posted.

FYI, that little side trail off the main trail is not Spare Tire Canyon. Not sure how it got the name of a totally different trail.

Spare Tire Canyon runs from the Barlett Dam Rd/Horseshoe Lake turnoff down towards the Verde river and ends up just north of Rio Verde.

I agree, though, that little side trail is fun.

Matt,
It was nice hanging with you and the fella's on the trail. I assume you made it back with no issues. You would have liked finishing up the trail: just more twisty climby stuff. You finish up on Horsehoe Lake rd. Sorry about the bad info. It seems that there is a large group of folks thinking some wrong info. Everyone one I've ever done that jack canyon with, has called it Spare Tire Canyon. (including the guys that night). Maybe we need to gether a together a run to the real trail. We also need to rename what we ran, something new. Anyway, I'm sure we'll find each other on a run soon.

Thanks, Huck. Same goes for me. Good company. I did make it home OK. I figured it best to not temp fate with my electrical problems. Stopped to watch DevilMan and others climb the hills, which was fun, then followed someone out the rest of the way. Managed to roll into the house at about 2am.
Looking forward to more runs on the north side.

Well, if we can be wrong about its name, then so can the guy claiming we are! :D

The AZVJC site does not post directions to "Spare Tire Canyson." azbackcountry's does, but that was first populated from azvjc. The azbackcountry site lists what we did as Spare Tire. If it's not, I'd sure like to know for sure and try out the "real" one.

Actually, I don't care what it's called, I just like the idea of finding out about the other one! whether it's spare tire or chicken little...I just want to find more trails out at Bartlett. It's the closest play area to Scottsdale!

Thanks for posting the run, Rick. I had a great time.

That tells you how big the "first annual UNplanned AZVJC FR42run" actually was.....didnt even see you there.. :D I was up near the front, you must have been part of the group that was still entering the trail when we were at the lake... It was a good time, giving Rick Beer's dad a hard time (he had the KIA) and seeing ALOT of old friends that I have not seen in a while....If you had been up front, We could have shared a "frosty beverage"

Oh well.....

Being in an open CJ, I figured I'd try to stay up front, but then ended up hanging back with Kit, Kent, Huck and a few others. Worked out well as we almost never had to stop and wait. We were the ones who passed the party by the lake and headed to "whatever" canyon. We we're going to jump in and cool off, but never did. On the way back out we caught up with the group right where Indian Wash (?) headed out. I had some minor electrical problems, so I jumped in line and followed you guys while Kit and company continued the remainder of FR-42. I stayed pretty much dust free up until the speed run out Indian Wash. I had to wear my dust mask to keep from choking to death :)

Hello All,
RICK CLARKE lead a trail run Saturday, July 17, 2004 across FR-42

WE MEET AT 7:00P.M. AT THE MEETING SPOT. THINKING THAT ONLY 15 VEHICLES WILL GOING ON THE TRAIL. BY 7:30 WE HAD 34 VEHICLES, AN F-150, AND A TOYOTA WAS AMONG THE 34. NEVER RUNNNG A TRAIL BEFORE I WAS GETTING A LITTLE NERVOUS. WITH THE HELP OF MY EXCELLENT WIFE AND GOOD FRIENDS, WE WERE ON THE TRAIL BY 7:50 P.M. WITH NO PROBLEMS. WE MADE IT TO THE FIRST STOP TO THE RIVER, BY THEN IT WAS DARK. THE FIRST OBSTICLE WAS OVER THE EDGE. STOPPED AND LOOKED IT OVER, THE BYPASS IS NOW HARDER THAT THEN GOING DOWN OVER THE EDGE. EVERYBODY MADE IT DOWN SUCESSFULY, BY THIS TIME THE TRAIL STARTS GETTING A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT FOR STOCK VEHICLES. THE FIRST BREAKAGE WAS THE CH-CH-CHA-KIA, BLEW HIS FRONT HUB OUT, THE KIA AND RICK "BEER" HEADED-OUT ON THE FIRST WASH OUT. THE INCIDENT WAS GOOD OLE ERIC, LOL LOST ALL BELTS BUT AS A GOOD 4 WHEELER HE IS, HE HAD SPARE BELTS TO GET HIM BACK ON THE TRAIL TOWARDS THE END OF THE TRAIL WE HEARD THAT THE TOYOTA HAD GONE OFF THE TRAIL. AS BEEING MY FIRST TRAIL LEADER I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE ANYONE BEHIND SO WE STOPPED AND IT BEING DARK DID NOT KNOW THAT INDIAN SPRINGS WASH WAS ONLY FEET IN FRONT OF ME. I HELD THE WHOLE GROUP UP FOR AN HOUR. IT GAVE IS ALL TIME TO VISIT AND TALK AND EXCHANGE STORIES ABOUT THE TRAIL. SOME PEOPLE LEFT, SOME PEOPLE STAYED. BUT OVER ALL WE ALL HAD A "GREAT TIME".

P.S: THANKS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED OUT AND SORRY I AM AT THAT AGE WHERE I CANNOT REMEMBER NAMES NEXT TIME WE WILL HAVE TO WEAR NAME TAGS. BUT I REALLY APPRICEATE YOUR HELP. SORRY FOR ANY INCOVENIENCE WE HAD ON THE TRAIL.
NEXT TIME IT WILL BE LIMITED VEHICLES................
Yea Joe,
It was a real barn burner of a turn out for that run. So, Kit, Kent, Matt, my buddy James/Opie, hung back as the masses left the parking lot trying to avoid the dust storm. You didn't see me because I was the true Tail gunner for this run. We ended up waiting as two TJ's and the Taco showed up. We added them to the group and met up with everyone at the first lakeside pit stop. I thought I heard folks talking about Flexy, but wasn't sure it was you. We knew that you guys would probably not run Spare tire and we wanted to swim. So, we took off ahead of the group when everyone was starting to pull away towards Edge of the Earth. I was crawling down edge of the earth as Rick was pulling up with the masses. We went to the first beach after edge of.... to swim but it was occupado. Then, it was off to Spare tire for some fun and swimming..... More campers, so no swimming. I will say that the Lake was way up from the last time I was at that beach (about a month back).
We tried to get a little stupid in Spare Tire with Kit taking a sick run over the top of a nasty boulder. Its a good thing he packs nine inches under his body..... I had some fun with the raised skid height, new diff armour and repositioned rock lights. Kit where are those pics????? :D I need a new avatar
Matt left the ol rock lights on for too long and the red top just wasn't taking a charge, so he needed a couple of jumps to get back to the wash. We finished up Spare Tire watching the Taco extracation effort. We were ready to assist with our rigs, but they had it well in hand. I was the tail gunner when the last group pulled up as everyone was pulling away. We just went right and headed up FR42 and finished up at the other paystation. I saw my house at about 4AM ;)
We'll catch up;I need one of those alignment thingies after Terminator....Speaking of which, I guess I should run it while I can, being cageless and all.
