Everyone remembers their first skateboard with the little plastic thingie on the back you could drag???? Fast forward to 2004. I had a chance to install the FIRST set of Plastic Side panel guards for an XJ, and let me tell you....these are COOL!!!! At first, I was a little skeptical about the strength of them, but after the install, and testing, I am convinced!!! The fit and finish on them are top notch, VERY slick, (so when you drag on rocks, they kind of just slide..Like the skateboard) I had the chance to bash these things this weekend, and other than doing what they are supposed to do (protect the sheetmetal) they work awesome!!! I think they look cool also. They conform to the body like it was ment to be there, and the install is as easy as drilling some holes and pop-riviting them on. Time will tell, but I think they are gonna do very good in the long run. Also, scince they are plastic, I dont ever have to worry about them rusting after they get drug on rocks either. Here are some pictures of them. They are available from www.cherokeeconcepts.com

Joe,
Looks like good protection. Does it come in colors?
It kind of reminded me of the Woody, but more function than stylish. LOL :D

Stuart,
For now the colors will be white or black. I am working on getting colored material but this means that the cost goes up. I'm trying to keep the costs down yet provide a lighter and more economical type of body protection.
Not to mention it's recycled material.. So it is helping the environment...

Woodys are COOL!!!! I honestly kicked around the idea of buying a 87-89 XJ waggoneer for the wood siding..... But the plastic doesnt leave splinters. If you want, next time we go wheelin, You can come along and watch how they work in person. Yes, I have seatbelts. How is your Jeep doing??? And driving??

Both Jeeps are fine. Took the new KJ to Colorado. Got rid of the Taurus for something semi usable. Was thinking about a small lift on the KJ to accomodate some Rubi wheels and tires, but after reading you earlier post in another area, I won't ask you about it and bring up painful memories. :)

I just responded to Mike's PM about these. I'll offer up my CJ-5 as a guinea pig for a CJ template. Which body section(s) will it cover?

I liked the side panels my ZJ came with. They didn't protect the sheet metal, but they did hide the dents! :D

Like many CJ/TJ/YJ owners, I have rear corner panels, so I imagine the CJ template will be made to butt up to the corner guard edge and cover above the rear wheel well forward to some point. Personally, I'd like it to cover all the way up to where the front fender meets the tub. I'm always scaring up the section between the front fender and the door opening, and my rocker panel body section needs covering in a bad way :)
Give me a call, Dave. Hook a fellow Irishman up!
Matt,
The design is workable, so if you want to cover the entire side panel of the CJ it can be done.. It will cost a little more in material but it can be done..
check your email.....
I am still looking for a YJ owner that wheels thier junk hard to help set up tenplates and test these bad boys out...

I was under the impression that "Chicks dig body damage", why are you wanting to cover up your battle scars :p

Because there are some people that like the keep the body in good shape. Others don't. The plastic helps the back end slide off a rock, it is not meant to slam into a rock, that's why they have rear corner guards made out of 3/16 steel.

And others, like myself, who want to cover up current body damage as my wife is tired of all the body damage groupie chicks that keep following me home. :D
Black anyone???

Bigger pictures can be seen on my site in the Cherokee section. I should have some black TJ quarter guard pictures up shortly..
