It was a great day. As usual, not a cloud in the sky.
5-Rubi, 7-TJ, 2-XJ, 2-YJ, 1-CJ, 1-Scout (18)
We had a little late start due to construction for those coming from the North and West of Phoenix. We started out about 8:50. Talk about dusty. Jon was up front leading the way, he knew the way to the cabins. About 2 miles from the turn-off to Martinez, Jon stopped abruptly, quickly opened his hood and used his fire extinguisher. His electric fan on the radiator had problems. He had not brought the mechanical, so that was it for the day. Petri stayed with him and they returned to town. We went on at his urging. We continued up to the hills just after the turn (the yellow arrow sign). It was time to play. The Rubis were off, as well as others (see pictures). Andrew put on a good show with his stock XJ. We continued on after a while. We only made a wrong turn once. Luckily someone knew where the right turn to Martinez cabin was. Again we were off... Arriving at the cabins about 11:00. The shade of the trees was very refreshing. Everyone had a little lunch and refreshment. A few went a little farther past the cabins to play on the rocks. This is where the only body damage was recorded for the trip. Andrew in his XJ slipped into the crevasse and scraped a large section of rocker. Myself, I got hung up on a rock. The TBT diff armor worked like a charm, no damage, but Martin needed to winch me off the rock. Only one wheel on the ground was not enough. Chris then demonstrated Arizona skiing as they recovered the winch cable. I then continued the rest of the way, I did flex the front bumper a little though, I needed a new one anyway. We continued back down to the cabins and joined the rest of the group, gather everybody up and headed down. We stopped at the play stop again to let anyone try their new found skills. They continued across the ridge and met us at the sign. We went the to the north with an expected exit to US 60. A few of the last jeeps took a different exit to Cottonwood Canyon exit. We did go back when we lost communication and found others wheelers that had come from the cabins that had not seen our friends. Chris was familiar with the area and assumed they had gone that way and would check the exit, on our way home. Jack was waiting for us at US 60. We aired up and talk a little longer. One of the other jeeps pulled in and let us know they were back and did come out on Cottonwood Canyon Rd. Good to know everyone made it back safe. We ended up finishing about 3:00pm. Thanks to all that came. Without you, it would not be wheelin'. I will add other pictures as they come in.
