Anyone have any direct experience with a local shop, Phoenix area, that rebuilds and beefs up a 700r4 transmission. I have a 1989 K5 Blazer and want to get the tranny rebuilt before I put in my TBI stroker motor and my 1 ton suspension. Trannys are out of my league.

Thanks in advance,

I am guessing you are talking about a 383 stroker?

I don't know their name but the tranny shop next to Desert Fab (one of our sponsors) put a beefed up TH350 in my 53 Willys Pickup with a B&M Shifter and Dana 300 for very reasonable price.

These guys build the trannies for Desert Fabs race vehicles.

I am very happy with it.

I was looking for a 700R tranny when I started looking. After speaking to the guys at Desert Fab and the tranny shop the TH350 was a better choice for me. Given the gears and tire size I was planning the overdrive of a 700R would have been worthless to me even on the highway.

Depending on the gears and tire size you plan a TH400 might be a better choice. Mine is a mostly stock 350 SBC so the TH350 was a good choice for me. TH400 much stronger stock and can be made super strong for the torque and HP of a stroker.

Either way I bet they can build you a strong 700R at a reasonable price.

I used to have a 72 Blazer, love to see yours when it is done.

Yep, I was talking about a 383 stroker. I bought a complete 1984 Blazer that had the stroker in it. It has a lot of good "extra" parts on it that are like new (air conditioning compressor setup, had a new HD radiator, air-horns, new heater core, tires, rims etc. It only had 2,000 miles on the motor. Kelley’s Auto and Machine built the motor. Personally I have never heard of them but I was told that they specialize in stroker motors. I have the receipt for the build and have talked to Kelley's as well. According to Kelley's nothing but the best was put into the motor. Oh I am getting the 1 ton chassis out of the 84 Blazer. Everything should clean up nicely as well. The best part is I only paid $800.00 for it.

KB in Mesa did my tranny in for f350. Resonable price, and built it up nice and strong.

American Five Star transmission in Tempe is good to work with. I also like the idea of putting the TH400 behind a stroker. If you need the overdrive then the 700 is going to have to do. The 700 really doesnt like big tires and motors but does have the overdrive. Good luck!
